Who chose the Jets and who chose Pittsburgh?
Deion chose the Steelers and Irvin chose the Jets.

I could see the Steelers, going 3-1 without Roethlisberger..

But the Jets? As Irvin's less talented, less intelligent counterpart on ESPN would say "C'mon, man!" The 10-9 whooping we put on them was a statement game. Sure, the Jets can beat up on the under-performing AFC East, but so can everyone else.

Still no love for the Ravens :( Warren Sapp and Rod Woodson like us, though!

Agreed.....it was funny being in the moment and hearing Deion talk and then (in my head) saying "huh, we beat them" and then hearing Irvin talk and then (in my head) saying "huh, we beat them also" and then crickets.....nothing about us!

I assume you're talking about Keyshawn? Irvin was undoubtedly a great player but I'd take Cris Carter over him.

Typical NFL.

Week 1: "The Jets are the best team in the world!"
Ravens win.

Week 4: "The Steelers are the best team in the world!"
Ravens win.

Now: "Go Steelers and Jets!"

Did they give the awards to themselves?

I use to think the Jets were overrated but they seem to be coasting after that first game. I'm actually impressed.

On D they have been playing without their best coverage guy, best pass rusher and best run stuffer. As much as I hate the team, you can't be blinded by what they will do this year. Let's not forget that Sanchez has yet to throw an INT this year.

Makes sense. If you said the Steelers would be 3-1 without Roethisberger you'd be lying and Sanchez has shown a lot of progression and hasn't even turned the ball over once.

Makes sense to me too, I could agree. I can understand the argument.

It can be argued either way, its just hilarious seeing as we've beaten both teams.

Yeah, definitely Keyshawn. Forgot that Carter was on there. I would take Cris Carter over almost any receiver in the history of the league. Jerry Rice is the G.O.A.T.

I wouldn't give our team awards for the first quarter of the season either. We went out and got a bunch of weapons but have yet to really convert it into points. Our offense hasn't been great, and we were one pass away from being 2-2, and having scored only 10 points in 3 of our 4 games.

Having one of the hardest 4-game schedules and winning 3 of them while maintaining a top-ranked defense is not award-worthy?

While Steelers get credit for not having Roethlisberger, we get no credit for winning without Ed Reed.
While the Jets get credit for having an offense that keeps looking better, ours has too.

Keep in mind the Saints won the SB last year with many slim victories but they still found ways to win. We've done that too, but sadly, no credit.

Yeah, much as I hate to admit it, the Jets have been doing great so far <_< Personally, I think the Falcons and the Chiefs did the best as of far.

How about best WR not named Rice? It's a great topic to debate.

Not vastly more so than any other team, no.
While Steelers get credit for not having Roethlisberger, we get no credit for winning without Ed Reed.

Our offense has been disappointing. I agree with you about Reed, and made a post about it earlier, but that's got nothing to do with our offense's poor performance. The defense has been spectacular.

Not that this has anything to do with my point or this thread, but that statement was just false. The Saints went 13-0 and then laid down for the last 3 games. They dominated more games than were "slim victories".

Take off the blinders. We've been escaping in our victories. It's fine because it's the NFL and wins are difficult and important, but I don't see why we deserve awards, or how our offense is anything short of disappointing.

Both the Jets and the Steelers are good picks for the "Best team" so far this season. What made me go nuts is Irvin's "MVP" pick.. LT? Seriously? I mean.. sure, he has been better than what was expected from him but the title of the Most Valuable Player in the NFL is totally different.

Just like no clear cut favorite team, there also isn't a clear cut favorite for MVP. I think you have to put Arian Foster as early season candidate though.

As much as I would hate to see it again, I think Manning wins it.

I'd be pretty angry if Petyton won again. In the truest sense of the award, he's extremely deserving but it's just boring now.

Name one team who's played a tougher schedule than us. Falcons' comes close. But we had 3 away games against playoff-caliber teams. We're 3-1 against teams that are 9-3 in games not against us.

Those 3 teams, by the way, have top-ranked defenses. Yet the offense is disappointing? Not really. Except for the Bengals game, the offense has looked pretty good. Besides, our defense is lights-out. So the offense doesn't necessarily need to be elite for us to be ranked #1.

I brought up the Saints because they won close games against Miami, St Louis, Washington, Atlanta, and Minnesota in the playoffs. But all last year, the story was "The Saints are great, but most importantly, they find ways to win". And your spin on it is we "just barely escape". Sure they dominated more teams than we have, but they also got to play TB twice, Carolina twice, St Louis, Buffalo, Washington, and Detroit. All we had are the Browns, who aren't looking that bad anymore.

I would, but me and my brother go through it every week, lol. Always the same conversation. I say Randy Moss, and his answer depends on what mood he's in. Just this weekend, he was trying to argue that Marvin Harrison was better than Jerry Rice. Says he was just as good in every aspect, but faster.

Ha, you win that debate.....and from the sounds of your competition, you win all subsequent debates as well.
