Great Brian Billick quote!

Honestly I support and our players should support the cause but last season, October was a horrible horrible month for us. I wouldnt attribute that to wearing pin but we played horrible in pink last year

I think it's stupid. There are other ways to support breast cancer awareness than to have 1/4 of your NFL Films highlights every year overwhelmed by pink uniform accessories.

Players choice. Complain to them if you'd like.

I'm kind of disappointed that they didn't wear pink myself... It would have shown solidarity with everyone who's ever been affeted by breast cancer.

The reason they didn't wear much pink is because the NFL designates I'm assuming by home team which team will primarly be wearing pink. Last week it was the steelers. If you watched all the games they were like this with one team wearing more then others. This week will be the ravens week to wear most of the pink.

(That's what I heard on the radio)

It's not like the Ravens don't do great things for it's community.
I understand why the MLB players do it, it really doesn't take away from their game.
But if you're an offensive lineman, wearing pink gloves, you're going to be called for holding more than you usually would because it's so easy to see.
Just because wearing a certain color to support a cause, should not interrupt the play of a game. The players can choose if they want to support a cause or not.
That's the way it should be. Players wearing pink to support breast cancer research is more of a decision by the NFL wanting to get more female fans and to show it is doing something good for this country, by supporting a worthy cause.
However, if it can effect the outcome of a game, it shouldn't be considered.
It should be acted upon outside of the game.
A game is a game, a cause is a cause.
Honestly, while I support breast cancer research, or any kind of cancer research, it shouldn't be displayed on the field.
There are a ton of other cancers that should be supported as well.
Just not during a game, and not just for good PR status.

Great post. It's about trying to get more female fans, just wish they would try to raise awareness about all cancer. Women aren't the only people affected by cancers. I know some PEOPLE who have died or are living with MS. Wonder if there will someday be a month, and what color that will be.
The cheerleaders were looking great in that pink though, the men,, i'll just say abnormal.
Save the ta tas.

Actually, polls have shown that women are largely turned off by the "pink-it-and-shrink-it" mentality that most sports including the NFL have taken in mechandising. Some women find it a little demeaning because they aren't taken seriously by their male counterparts, especially female fans that really know their stuff. That's why the NFL is launching a new line of women's apparel with Alyssa Milano that is geared more towards embracing team colors while still maintaining a level of chic.

I still don't see how colors can affect the outcome of a game. The frequency of calls aside (which is still difficult to ascertain, given the speed of the game at field-level), colors do not determine whether a team will win or lose; players do.

I heard that the Ravens released a statement on why they didn't wear pink. I can't get my hands on it anywhere though, they talked about it on 105.7 this morning.

Apparently the NFL only issues a certain amount of pink items to each team. So the team as a whole decided to all wear it on one Sunday (specifically at home), instead of allowing certain players to wear it all month long. This was done as a measure of singularity (classic Harbs).

So I expect we will be seeing the pink only this Sunday. I'll see if I can't find the actual quote.
