What's Up With The 49ers?

41 posts in this topic

I thought this team would be a lot more impressive with the addition of Taylor Mays, which greatly improved their defense. Although they've had at least 2 close games against NO and ATL today, do you think Singleterry will be gone if this continues?

You really don't know do you? They are exactly like us a few years ago. A terrible offense is putting the defense on the field too long and they are getting gassed.

They need to self-destruct into a 2-14 season and draft a QB - a good one this time. THEN they have a shot at winning the West if they can surpass the almighty Rams.

Taylor Mays hasn't improved anything. He scored a fluke TD today on a blocked punt but he's not a starter and hasn't helped them much, if any.

Why they're winless is beyond me. They aren't loaded with talent but I thought their talent at key positions and fiery HC would help them be successful but so far, it just hasn't worked.

What I find hilarious is two straight years now, 9ers DBs have picked off Matt Ryan and been stripped of the ball by Roddy White.

Mays didn't do much besides catch that miraculous punt ricochet in the end-zone. The 49ers improved their game, losing only in the last 2 seconds of the game by a FG. They had the lead for almost the entire game. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they fired their head coach. Working in his favor is the fact that the leader in their division is only in the lead by 2. But still, 0-4...

The 49ers are baffled on offense. It wasn't the OC's fault, he just got thrown under the bus. The 49ers offense does everything it can to put the defense in a bad posotion. Constant 3 and outs forcing the d to play more and with little rest. Plus putting them on the short field with turnovers. The 49ers have a good d but like some others have said earlier, feels like the ravens from a few years back.

What's wrong with the Niners?

Two words summarise it: Alex Smith.

Looks like the 9ers are competing with Buffalo for the right to take Andrew Luck.

Alex Smith progressed last year and proved that he might just be a fluke since he regressed this year.

The 49ers CB who int'd the ball and got it stripped reminded me of Ed Reed. Oh Ed, I miss you. Especially that one game against the Pats.

Mike Singletary is a terrible HC.
Most of our former assistant coaches are. They are better suited with having Ray direct their coaching careers.

Singletary is running out of people to use as scapegoats. Alex Smith is not an NFL QB and the o-line play has been inconsistent. Add to that, a defense that is playing good but not as good as it is capable and you have the 49ers plight. It's not going to get any better when they throw David Carr in there.

I would think people would be more inclined to pick Mallett from Arkansas over Luck. Mallet just looks like an NFL qb. The way he throws the ball, and everything.

I think that blocked punt is going to be the only highlight of Mays' career.
I'm not a fan of Mays but he'll have more highlights during his career. He's actually become a full starter with Michael Lewis released and he'll probably body-rock a few people but he'll get toasted in coverage too.

If the 49ers don't bounce back this week I'll lose total faith in picking them to win any other game this season.

As long as there are some who will play "blame the coach", there are those of us here who will try to look at the situation in regard to the on-field talent and what can be done - if anything can be done.

True, the defense is being kept on the field for too long in some situations, yet we still have to take the chance and hope for the best, for it is defense that wins games.

As for the offense, all I can say is banish half the offensive roster to bring respectability back to 49er football.

I can hear the rumbles of "Start Troy Smith" from the opposite side of the country!
They're not from the other side of the country they're from your area. It's all the Flacco haters wanting Smith to start so they can be right about how awesome he is.

As far as the 49ers themselves go I think it's just a combination of things; they easily should have beaten New Orleans if it weren't for turnovers and if Nate Clements goes down there's a great chance they win that game and are 2-2 instead of 0-4. I don't think there is necessarily one MAJOR problem with them.

What a horrible football name. He doesn't even sound like he'll be good in the NFL he sounds like an Arena leaguer.
What happened to the great football names? You can tell Mike Ditka was badass just by the name. Walter Payton just oozes "I'm a football player".
But Andrew Luck?? Gawd, sounds like one of those fake prospects in Madden's Franchise mode.
Even worse, my name's Andrew too, always wanted to change it to something more fearsome, like Ezekiel or Eli haha (actually wait, Eli is even nerdier sounding..)

I am soo confused.... why are we talking about Andrew Luck/Ryan Mallett and not Jake Locker?

And I still think Mays will be a beast, like a total beast. I know coming out of college he might not have looked as good as Earl Thomas or Eric Berry, but I have a feeling with the insane measureables he has, he will surpass both of them although its all a matter of if he can live up to his potential.

How do you think they'll perform against the Eagles? I'm expecting them to go 0-5 but I'd like to see the Eagles lose again. :lolpoof:

I have the feeling that the Forty Niners will do well against Philadelphia this Sunday night, mostly because Andy Reid's teams usually have trouble in the regular season on national broadcasts.

So you attribute their crappy performances to stage fright?
Well, I wouldn't call it that, but his teams have had troubles on national broadcasts, particularly in their own division.

This Sunday we may just see the Forty Niners get their first win, especially since Philadelphia has been having questions surrounding their QBs.

Yeah, Kolb's not that good. They won't do as good as they would if they had Vick. The 49ers might just pull off a win. :empty trophy case:

I'm not sure about Kolb as he has'nt really gotten a chance because of injury and the play of Vick.
With Vicks injury now Kolb can show what he's got against a team thats hungry for a win and played very well against the Saints and Falcons.

The Eagles QB situations is actually one of the better ones in the league.
Vick/Kolb 61% 1,024 yds 7 TDs 1 INT 96.8 QB rating
Opponents 52% 753 yds 5 TDs 6 INT 63.9 QB rating
Which the opponents numbers are very similar to Joe Flaccos.
Flacco 57% 920 yds 5 TDs 6INTs 70.2 QB rating

What worries me about the 49ers game is that McCoy if playing will be hobbled and Asante Samuel has been ruled out.

What's wrong with the 49ers? The fans. Who would want to play for people that can literally fill 260 pages with utter nonsense and overwhelming negativity. By the time I post this, it's probably at page 270, because that's literally how fast they type this crap.

EDIT: Alex Smith just fumbled for PHI TD...I think...I may sympathize with them...|| <-- that much.
