On the flip side of the coin, we've been dominant in passing D. If your team passes a lot on 1st, 2nd downs, they'll need to convert 3rd-downs against a team that's top in the league on 3rd.
is our rank 1st on stopping 3rd down?

also as per request of the guys over at the Broncos forums, some of you guys should come sign up and have some discussions with them on their forums this week :P

Yup true/biggest test for our pass D thus far. I expect to have Washington, Carr, Webb, and Wilson active. And I think we may see Webb taking more and more snaps from Washington. Washington wasn't looking too hot today. Webb was solid

Don't doubt the Broncos. I understand we just got a huge win but no opponent should be taken lightly or it will blow up in your face.

While I'm confident in my team since we are home again and we just came off a huge victory and we have momentum but they also just came off a huge victory. The Broncos do appear to be one-dimensional, but Kyle Orton should not be taken lightly and you'll never know who will step up on the Broncos. Nobody thought Peyton Hillis would step up.

This will be a slug fest but I have faith the Ravens can pull it out. Like I said before, if they stop Orton and Joe and company score just enough. This will be ours. Also limit mistakes.

Definition of a trap game. This is still a solid defense, they still have a healthy Champ Bailey and Andre Goodman, two good corners. Kyle Orton is passing out of his mind right now, and they have a good if not great receiving corps. Eddie Royal is a quick, tough guy, Brandon Lloyd is immensely athletic, and Demaryius Thomas is learning on the fly. These guys are going to be hard covers, but I expect our secondary to step it up. We will stuff their running game, I'm confident in saying that. It will be solely a test for our #1 ranked pass defense. Lets go 4-1

edit: How could I forget they also have Brian Dawkins?!

,
I agree, the Ravens will be the toughest D that Denver faces to date. That's why I have always liked watching them play because they can make 10-9 game exciting. I feel like the Offense finally has the potential to be special as well, which is why the Ravens are a scary team.

Please don't dismiss Orton's preformance because we haven't played top defenses. The Titans D was suppose to be good and they did not stop Denver. There is a reason that Denver has the #1 passing offense in the league, it's not a fluke or luck of playing weaker opponents. I could understand if you made this statement after week 2 but we are a forth through the season.
welcome aboard, so far you have been much more respectable than the jackasses that trolled our forums last year before the game.
I'll preface my comments by stating the obvious, which is that it doesn't matter if we dismiss orton or denver's offense as a fluke, since we'll find out either way next weekend. If denver lights it up against us, we'll know they are for real.

Now, down to business..

Here's how I see it. HIstorically, it takes a certain type of quarterback to have any type of consistent success against us. He has to be intelligent and make quick reads. Has to have a strong arm, because he'll be throwing into a lot of tight coverage. Has to have a big time playmaker to throw to. Finally, has to be able to either throw on the run or otherwise make /extend plays with his feet.
Other than making quick reads, that sounds nothing like orton.
What makes it even tougher on him is that its hard enough to run on us as it is, but given denvers problems on the ground (never thought those words would ever come out of my mouth!!), their offense will be extremely one dimensional...and when the ravens are allowed to pin their ears back and attack the qb, well, i'll just say thats how we earned our rep and leave it at that..
If i were a denver fan, i dont know if i could be confident heading into this matchup. We know what baltimore's defense brings to the table, they've been doing it for the past ten years. No questions there. But although orton has enjoyed early success, much like last year, do a few good games against mediocre to poor defenses really inspire enough confidence to believe they'll be able to get it done against a defense like baltimore's? We'll find out sunday, but if i were a betting man, i'd take the safe bet, which is our defense over orton and company.

What i personally am looking forward to seeing is how our offense, flacco and rice in particular, performs against denver's defense. If they perform as i anticipate they will, orton may not get very many opportunities to prove the naysayers wrong.

I don't know about a slug fest but with KC sitting at 3-0 , no one is to be taken for granted in todays NFL. I'm glad we are getting this test facing the #1 pass offense in the league so our secondary can really be put to a test ( not saying they haven't been tested this year but playing a team thats statistically ranked #1 in the league adds more to it ). Anyway, being one dimensional vs the Ravens can be disastrous as the Pats seen in the playoffs last year. GL.

Denver has talent, nobody ever seems to think of us as a threat. The Ravens are an extremely talented D, but no team has been able to make the adjustments and stop our passing O this year. It will be a closer game than a lot of you think.
You have to get real here however.

Jaguars 30th against the pass
Seattle 29th against the pass
Titans 13th against the pass
Indy 15th against the pass

Ravens #1 against the pass.

I don't understand how anybody is thinking this is a trap game or that we are underestimating the Broncos. If they are, they obviously do not know NFL football this year. I can guarantee that the players are no way underestimating the Broncos.

The Broncos just went on the road against a good D, without their star RB, and missing many parts of their D. And won though the air. They are 2-2 but they could've won all 4 games.

On top of that Orton is already a possible MVP candidate. Amazing.

Jaguars 30th against the pass
Seattle 29th against the pass
Titans 13th against the pass
Indy 15th against the pass

Ravens #1 against the pass.
These are just rankings after 4 games. They are all skewed in one way or another.

Jaguars 30th against the pass - Faced Vick, Rivers, Orton and Manning (nuff said)
Seattle 29th against the pass - Rivers threw for 455 yards against them. Rivers threw for 436 against us last year which skewed our passing D stats early on.
Titans 13th against the pass - Legit
Indy 15th against the pass - Legit

Ravens - Sanchez w/ training wheels, Sour Palmer, Backup QB, Backup QB. Not saying our corners haven't looked good, but it's hard to compare when looking at stat rankings after 4 weeks.

If you don't think Orton and that crew of WRs are legitimate. Then be prepared to be surprised. To me those are just skewed rankings after 4 games. Not enough data to prove a conclusion.

I'm not sleeping on Orton and his Wrs they have looked good. At the same time I have confidence in our defense to get pressure and play good in coverage. We stoned them last year with brandon marshall, no reason we can't do it again.

Harbaugh and Ray won't let us sleep on this one. We know its a potential trap after a HUGE win. Cincy game was sort of the same.

Joe's GOT to have confidence after this weekend and the offense will really begin to heat up, IMO. If a team (Denver) is truly one dimensional with the pass, look for our first multi-pick game. Carr and Webb.

The thing about what Denver is doing, is just like the Pats did a few years back (before Moss and Welker). They line up a lot of guys at WR, send them out, and Orton hits the open man.

The key to this game for us, once again comes down to pressure. Because if we bring the blitz and they pick it up, Orton will make the throws to the open guys. If we can get hits on Orton, and if we can get pressure with a base D, we control this game.

That's good insight - thanks. I admit I haven't watched any Denver this year. Well our guys will be watching that tape too. Looking forward to it!

It's no surprise they look like the Patriots pre Moss/Welker, because Josh McDaniels was the OC in New England in 2005/2006. Line em up, pick up the blitz and hit the open man.

Can't wait to see Ngata rack up the stats when the Broncos go with heavy WR sets.

Exactly. If I said to you before the season, "Pu, the Ravens are going to be the NFL's best defense this year." you would have said, "Why yes Fly, that is no surprise at all. That is how we roll dawg."

If I would have told you Denver would be a better passing attack than the Colts and Saints (without Marshall on top of that), you would have punched me in the face and made me stand in the corner while revoking my football fan status.

Moral of the story is, no one is surprised at the Ravens being the best defense after four weeks. That IS how we roll dawg.
Denver however, seem to be the ones who's stats are misleading.

Like I said though, we shall find out Sunday who is for real and who may have taken advantage of favorable matchups.

Well here is an interesting stat.

Kyle Orton's 1,419 passing yards is 2nd best in NFL History thru 1st 4 games. Second only to Kurt Warner. (Thank you Adam Schefter)

Regardless if they are living on a cloud or not, that is impressive no matter who you are playing.

Adam also noted "Backups, beware. Since 2007, Baltimore is 11-2 against backup quarterbacks."

You would think a game featuring the best passing offense vs the best passing defense would garner more attention for CBS to show this one everywhere. Alas that won't be the case (Im sure I'll get whoever the Titans are playing here in northeast TN) and I'll end up finding an online stream for the game...

That said, this should be another good one. Orton is gonna put up some yards on us I'm sure, but I'm confident in our scoring defense in this one, especially with how the Broncos played the Colts two weeks ago. I think Joe is gonna have some more good success in this one. Very early prediction: Ravens 27, Broncos 16

I think we will see our turnovers go up in this game. Orton is the first QB we'll face who airs it out and therefore, we should get some picks. Palmer throws the ball, but he was so bad in that game we couldn't get any picks.

If the RBs ar ehealthy, I think we should also see some more running.

It almost smells like a trap game hope the guys are ready.
I might agree with you... if the beginning of the season didn't get off to the start it did.

The running game still hasn't had that dominant performance they want. So you know Ray Rice and McGahee and McClain are going to want to have that type of game and get the first one under their belts.

And the defense didn't play anywhere near their potential in the first home game. So I think they're going to want to put on a show for the home crowd.

Oh, and this is the first game the Ravens will be wearing their black jerseys. I don't care what any of YOU think about whether the color of jerseys matters. The fact is, Ray Lewis, Terrell Suggs, and many other players have openly stated that they love wearing them and they get that little extra fire.

Very excited for this game. Glad we got those 3 road games in 4 weeks out of the way! Perhaps we get to see our defense feast on TIM TEBOW a little? That would be fun.
