Raven False Starts Not Called

78 posts in this topic

Harbaugh said on his TV show that they watched the footage, and he is NOT false starting consistently, he's just consistently timing it well. The refs did a good job.

It looked like false starts on Oher but upon closer examination, he got off PERFECTLY right on the snap of the ball. So let them whine and moan all they want. They would say the same to us if we were complaining about refs.

Oher doesn't false start - watch the Harbaugh video of his radio show or red/watch his post Weds practice interview.
He gave a very good explanation of what Oher is doing.

Don't know if it was mentioned yet, but when Flacco threw that interception, the announcers were talking about how Oher looked like he moved early. If that would've been called there would have been no interception. So the refs "helped" them in a way.

I'm on the Steeler message board and they are all complaining, and I quote, "of at least 15 uncalled false start penalties" on us. They single out Michael Oher a lot and claim that on our game winning TD to Housh we false started as well.

Did anyone else see anything? I personally think its just sour grapes.

The only reason Oher even had to jump early was becuase Harrison was offsides on every other play. Look at the replays and tell me I'm wrong. They finally called him for lining up in the neutral zone in the 4th quarter, when he had actually been getting away with it the whole game. And I don't ever want to hear Steelers fans complain about not getting calls. Does anyone think Seahawks fans are feeling sorry for them today?

Apparently, some Steelers blog created a video just to highlight Oher's fast get-offs. Here's a link: http://www.steelersdepot.com/index.php?s=oher

Pretty pathetic.

It looks shady because you can't see when the ball is "actually" snapped. But He's doing it based on timing, and he's just dead on every second. They can hate. But the visual images just tell me he was the fastest player off the snap.

If they can show me him moving before the ball leaves the ground, I would be more critical. But those clips aren't showing when the ball is snapped.

I remember in 2007, when the Jaguars beat them twice in Pittsburgh, the second time in the playoffs, they made a similar thing, highlight "holds" on a Jags TD run.

Out of that entire video, I saw one, maybe two that were debatable. And they were only debatable because the quality was too poor to see the football.

17-14 is what people will remember.

It was nice of them to display how quick Oher is off the ball but unfortunately he did not false start. The only time it looked like he did (3rd one) was when Harrison was offsides. Even if he did move before the ball, it's so close it'd be impossible for the referee to tell. Oher takes his foot off the ground immediately after the ball is lifted off the ground, let alone pitched back.

I saw maybe 2 false starts in that video that supposedly all were false starts. The guy who made it watched the oline movement instead of the football. When you watch the football you see Oher is the first person to move almost exactly when the ball is snapped.

I watched the video. Hes just incredibly good at timing it. There is no evidence that he false starts. Some of the snaps do look close, but not enough to conclude that he false starts.

Wow, thanks for the video Steelers Depot! I knew Oher was awesome, but it looks like he's got such good timing that Harrison doesn't even have a chance to make a move. Think about it though...how would you feel if a second year tackle was totally shutting down your all pro LB? There HAS to be an excuse, his timing can't be THAT good. Oh, but it is Steelers fans. And he's gonna be protecting Flacco for a long time.

By the way, Harbaugh also said on his show that last season, there were several incorrect false start calls on Oher, and the Ravens sent footage to the league and discussed it with the officiating crews. It actually takes extra effort to watch Oher, because he's right with the ball. You can't watch him relative to the rest of the line, you have to really pay attention to the snap.

Also of note: Harbaugh said that he thought Harrison was in the neutral zone a bunch of times during the game, but when they looked at tape they saw that he wasn't. Harbaugh admitted that he was wrong. Good players push the boundaries, and their reputation further allows them to do so.

Funny, they didn't make a blog w/ the video of Vince Young being dumped on his head by 3 Steelers. That was definitely a roughing the passer call, but the refs didn't call it.

He's off with the ball, amazing. Players like him remind me of Sam Adams, the guy has an amazing first step, not off sides, just FAST.

His kickback is as fast as it gets but lets not rock the purple glasses here, he's got some way to go before he's as good as Gaither.

At 6'4" Oher is tied as the shortest LT in the NFL, this means he can't afford to be out of position to make the block because he can't compensate with his wingspan like a taller tackle would. When he kicks back too far sometimes he gives up the inside, other times he won't ride the defender far enough around the outside of the pocket, which is why he was getting beat by bums like Tyler Brayton and Michael Johnson. His shirt holding is the reason Harrison didn't get two sacks.

No one is saying that he's better than Gaither; he's just beginning his second season. Oher will continue to improve those things, and I remember one holding call that was actually really smart. Sometimes holding is the best option if you're beat on the left side.
