Webb's Play

Carr has been solid this year and tackling well, and Webb was amazing as usual. Hopefully his knee does not hurt too much in the morning.

I was amazed how well he looked after the ACL surgery...really, really glad to have him back!

Definitely lock this guy up, we'll need him to shut down Wallace for years to come! That's all I needed to see to know that he'll be fine after his ACL tear. Those were actually very good throws by Charlie Batch, but Webb is showing the signs of being a major play maker. He almost caught the ball after stripping it from Wallace. Soon he'll start making those picks.

Again, what impresses me with webb is his tackling and his sense to be all over the field. Hes got traits of a charles woodson in that sense. I know he only had one tackle, but he was only in on 3rd downs. And lets be real, that one tackle was awesome. God i cant wait untill hes in full time. We will need him full time for sure in 2 weeks when we face randy moss. Reed should be back by then right?

Why is everyone busting fabians balls?? The guy has played very well this year.

We could have won 83-2 and people would be ****ing about the safety.

i couldn´t be any happier with our secondary so far. everybody said before the season that our secondary is the worst in the league and that we missed picking up some big name cb for filling some holes. we are number one right now i think and one reason for that is our secondary. webb was a true shut down corner against the stealers. not too many players in this league would have been able to strip that sure td out of wallace´s hands. great play. also the one were he deflected the pass. great play again. i don´t care about all the revis hype. we have a great carracter guy in our line and he is young and what most people forget: he is fast like a top speed receiver, covers like a very good corner and can hit like a safety. he is absolutely fearless.

also carr impresses me so far. he hasn´t given up a big play for four games. that is huge for a guy playin outside for the first time. washington is also good.cannot imagine how we play when ed is back and landry could play the run more. i think our defense is the strongest in the league at this time of the season. and as we all know: they only get better week after week...

hell, what a game!!!

Webb has a chance to become a shut down CB in this league. He is not quite a 100% and made a great play to save a TD in a crucial situation.

Webb made some great plays and played all out. I hope he can stay healty.
The secondary has done a great job so far.

Although Reed is a great Raven, I don't think he will make a big difference when he returns. Maybe he should think about a coaching position with the Ravens instead of returning to the field. His knowledge would be invaluable.

Fabian played okay. He did miss some things. I hope things improve for him but I think Fabian might be experiencing Post-Tramatic Stress Disorder. Fabian can physically play better but his mind restricts him from endangering himself and he lacks confidence that his body will hold up.

I don't think Nagta would have run Fabian over. Nagta was running to the ball.
Fabian should have went after the football. Maybe if Fabian was a steeler, he should have hit the ground.

I would like to see the Ravens use Williams and Wilson also, I think they would be more physical within the 5 yards and interupt the play route and quarterback timing.

Yea great plays by webb...I haven't had a beef with him here in these first couple of years here in Baltimore..

He's gonna get a nice hefty commendable contract next time around

Yes he does. It's a shame he had to suffer a major knee injury so early in his career.

Lardarius is just a great player, a great Raven. I love this kid. Somebody said it earlier - we need him for the coming years vs Wallace.

Our whole secondary has been playing absolutely fantastic. Washington actually looks like the weakest link at this point but he's still been playing well. Chris Carr has been WAY outplaying his expectations. The guy was getting roasted on these forums all last year and into the offseason, but I've always said he's better than we make him out to be and he's proved himself so far. The true tests will come later in the season against New England, next week against Denver, New Orleans, Pittsburgh (with Ben), and Houston.

As for Webb he's my favorite young defensive player on this team. I think he's has HUGE potential and we saw it today. He had perfect coverage on Wallace (who's an absolute burner) and is physical in run support. If he can stay healthy I think we'll have something special. What a steal in the draft! Great work Ozzie.

Oh and when Reed comes back I don't know how anyone will be able to throw on us... I'm getting chills just thinking about it.

Props to Zibby for holding it down while Reed is out. I'm not convinced he's the long term solution at FS but he's a true Raven and can definitely be a effective starter for us.

He is the main reason we are ranked #1 in pass D. I hate to be a buzz-kill but Washington and Carr have looked very average at times. It seemed like Batch bailed them out many times yesterday.

Not saying Carr and Washington have been bad, but I'll hold my praise for them until we play teams like the Pats, or Pitt with Ben.

Fabian wan't strictly on Ward. He covered other people and got beat by Randle El twice on big plays. He wasn't awful but he certainly looked bad at times.

You can argue Webb was covering #2 and #3s but we all saw him play amazing plays covering Pittsbugh's most dangerous WR.
Fabian is pretty consistently on the other teams #1, and he doesn't get alot of help over the top. Hes a pure cover corner, and hes undoubtedly the fastest player on our team. Hes played fine this year. The pass to Randle El was great coverage. Hes not a lock down corner, but hes done very well this season.

I found this, thought I'd share:
After two 40-something touchdown receptions the week before at Tampa, Batch and receiver Mike Wallace tried again Sunday in the third quarter to work their long-ball magic. Both times, Baltimore's Lardarious Webb knocked away the ball, the second one in the end zone.

"My whole week was focusing on No. 17, making sure No. 17 didn't beat me deep," Webb said of Wallace. "We didn't have a game on me. The defensive rush rushed Batch and made him underthrow it, overthrow it."

"We felt we had a good matchup there," Batch added. "When you are in those situations, you just try to get them to play honest by letting them know that we're going to take our shots deep. Didn't connect on them."
I'm going to try my best to ignore lines 3 and 4. You telling us that a All-Pro player needs to just hang it up and start coaching , LOL, unbelievable . While Zibikowski is doing a fairly decent job back there, don't forget how valuable Ed is for us. I understand you saying that on the strength that our secondary is playing lights out right now but I'm pretty sure Ed would have contributed to more turnovers for us. Zibikowski seems fundamentally sound but Ed has that and other attributes like being able to diagnose a play knowing where the Qb wants to go with the ball like Peyton Manning on defense and he still has the speed to play centerfield, just things that can't be coached that Ed has. I feel crazy explaining this, self explanatory.

Fabian doesn't stick to opposing teams' #1s like Revis or Asomugha(this year). Against the Jets, I saw him on Edwards and Cotchery. Against Cincy, I saw him covering Chad and T.O. Against the Browns, he covered Cribbs and Massaquoi and yesterday, he lined up against Wallace, Ward and Randle El.

Him being fast means nothing.

He was running stride for stride with Randle El when he gave up the deep ball but didn't locate the ball.

I'd say he's been solid this year, nothing more, nothing less.

Fabian is also on the other teams #1. Obviously he would look better if he was on the #2/#3 like Carr and Webb are.
Mike Wallace is the most explosive WR the Steelers have and Webb handle him without Safety help. Washington let Wallace get wide open in the endzone but Batch didn't see him.

I just found a great sequence of pics on The Sun's website that show Webb's pass-break up in the end-zone:

yeah with fab all i hope for is solid play, and for the most part he has delivered this year but i dont expect him to be a shut down guy.

if you watch the long play he gave up to randle el, he was in position to make the play he just didnt attack the ball. webb on the other hand attacks that ball. im not ready to anoint him yet but i am very excited to watch him develop.

Continuing with the Webb praise, Peter King had this to say about him in his preliminary comments:
I think the Ravens wouldn't be where they are this morning, and they wouldn't have won at Pittsburgh Sunday, without an excitable little competitor of a cornerback, Lardarius Webb.

"Ravens cornerback Lardarius Webb made the play of the day by breaking up a pass in the end zone that appeared for an instant to be a Mike Wallace touchdown. But Webb's hand came at the right time to knock the ball away. It was a great play and great overall defense by the Ravens, who only allowed the Steelers 210 total yards of offense. ..."

Finally got the new router, so I'm back : ) Aside from that, does anybody know if the game will be replayed? I missed the majority of it, including the plays by Webb.

NFL Replay premieres tomorrow morning at 2:30. I'm not sure if they'll show Webb's pass-break up in the end-zone but they should.

That's how i feel too, he has been very solid. Not playing on Webb's level for sure, but a looong way from being a liability.
