Harbaugh: Cundiff A Stud!

32 posts in this topic

In a game last year I saw Cundiff grabbing his helmet and running on the field with time running out and players scrambling all over the place in chaos. He was attempting a 56 yard field goal which would have given the Ravens the lead. He got the kick off, but barely missed.

Ever since that moment, I could see that this kid had "Stones Like A Raven." Hauschka, became a distant memory for me from that point on.

Then came Shayne Graham in preseason, the most accurate kicker in NFL history was hired to take his job. Cundiff starred him straight in the eye and "kicked his arsh."

Now this year, the kid is hitting them out of the end zone and looking like the Kool-Aid mascot on field goals. Yeah, No Doubt Coach! This kicker is a stud.

Why do all of our kickers recently look like 10 year old boys?

You're telling me these aren't the faces of men?

All jokes aside, Cundiff has been a machine this year, save for one kick. His kick-off have been consistently deep too.

I don't get it, he already missed a FG.
He might be able to kick deep into the endzone for a TB, but will be be able to make FG's when the game is on the line?
We'll have to wait and see...
I'm not sure of how it works exactly, but why not kick every ball into the endzone so it's not returnable.
Start at the 20, if you can go 80 straight yards on our D during a drive, you deserve to score.

Hopefully he can keep it up. Was anyone else at least a little disappointed that we didn't even invite Matt Stover to camp, though?

Wasn't it a 51-yarder that he missed?

Besides, his kickoff ability is much more valuable. He single-handedly gives our defense great field position, which can then give our offense good field position.

Last week, I declared Cundiff a tank.

He didn't give Cribbs an opportunity at all to return one, and his kicks weren't barely deep, but they were sailing all the way back..

Consider me a part of the "Billy Cundiff bandwagon"

Lol, trust me, if you've been here a while, this question may have been asked literally thousands of times.

It hit the upright, but it did have enough leg, and it's early in the season. Hopefully he'll get it down.
If they allow him to kick into the endzone each game I will agree it's a great thing to have, but to say that that is more valuable is something I'd question.
A non-returnable kickoff doesn't instantly put points on the board. But, I'm not disagreeing with you.

I'm sure. Sorry if that came off the wrong way. I've checked these boards out before, just never really had the time to make an account. I'll get the hang of it. :D

I can't prove it because I don't feel like crunching the numbers, but saving us those yards by kicking a touchback probably takes the opposition out of FG range more than once every 3 games, which is how many times he's missed so far. Even though a 51-yarder is a lot to ask for any kicker. He also helps prevent the possible kick return for a touchdown (we almost had one already).

Yeah, I'm right there with you. I agree, I didn't want to figure out the numbers either, besides, I'm no good at that, but I know how important it is to kick deep into the endzone.
As I said, I just hope they stick to that idea, even with teams that lack on special teams.
I just hope he's clutch when it comes to kicking a FG.
Any advantage we can have/create, we need to go for it.

I don't watch Entourage but I searched for Eric on Google images and the two were separated at birth.

Because you are getting old?
Seriously on the breeze was swirling a bit last Sunday, IDK if that had anything to do with the miss--I was looking at the tell-tails on the goal posts.

I've heard good things. I'd say I'll get into but there are so many series I have lined up to watch and re-watch, I may never get to it.

For some reason I can't associate Kickers with the word "stud"...especially since our last few kickers have looked like they just left the womb.

It was only a clutch kick when the kicker missed it, right? A 49 yard attempt to put us up by 7 in the 4th, and not turn the ball over in bad field position? Sounds clutch to me. I'm not worried at all about the Cundifference.

Yeah I like Cundiff, I say give him a 2-4 year contract extension so we can have some consistency at the Kicker position.

BTW anyone know what is Billy's rating in Madden 11? I feel like for how great he has been he is under rated.

The 51 yard miss was addressed earlier but I have to say that Cundiff's ability to kick the ball into the end zone has a secondary benefit. Does anyone remember that when we had Matt Stover we had to wastye a roster spot on a second kicker because Stover didn't have enough leg for the kickoffs?
