It doesn't have to be the first play, but I'd pass it to Housh early. Get him in the game mentally.

I agree. Same goes for Mason.

Heap has playing well which is why the young TEs haven't been more involved. Pitta only has one catch for a yard but against the Bengals Joe missed him deep after he had separated from the safety. Dickson has a grab for 17 yards which also came against the Bengals.

Polamalu aside, I don't think any Steelers player is all that good in coverage. Hopefully, Cam gets them more involved this week.

Agreed, Ike Taylor was torched last year alot, McFadden was below average in Arizona last year, William Gay is a dependable veteran but not someone you worry about throwing at. Really Polamalu and the pass rush erases the mistakes of their corners, which is a testament to his ability and their front 7.

I know that Mason prides himself in his downfield blocking. I wonder if running it to his side can help keep him happy?

@ hawkprey

I doubt it. Mason wants consistent targets and catches. The only WR I've ever heard who appeared content just making blocking blocks was Rod Smith(which is why he's one my favorite players ever).

I would try a quick screen to Rice, just to see if they will be looking for him over the middle, and see how Polamalu reacts.
We can try to beat down their front 7, but really, you can't do that against the Steelers. It seems like wasted effort.
Or maybe toss it out to Ray and see if he can get outside, but they have a quick defense.
Short quick passes seems the only way to go.
Running a no huddle offense in the Red Zone, might not be a bad idea, and might be our only chance.
I would question if Joe is far enough along in his training to be able to read that many quick passes in a game.

I'd run the same play that has got Boldin the majority of his yards. Put him in motion to the right side, then a run deep (15-20 yard) post, if the backfield is open turn the post upfield.

I'd test their corners off the bat.

If we see Boldin in motion, I'll bet we see Polamalu following him, probably all game.

That brings up an interesting idea.
Would it be worth it to take Polamalu out of the game at the expense of Boldin?
If Housh can show up to this game, and play like he usually does against the Steelers, we'll have a good shot at controlling this game through the air.

I thin we need to wear down the front line and slowly win field position. So I say we utilize the running attack with McClain and some McGahee and maybe some Rice thrown in there. The run might not work at first but for us to win it needs to work sometime. So if we keep at it we will wear them down and slowly start gaining 4-5 yards per carry. It might not work at first, but in the long run it will work. So first play I call is McGahee running with McClain in front of him. Up the left side, 6 lineman, Heap at H-Back and two wide. Let them know we are going to run it even if it doesn't work. Because even if they give up 3 yards per carry, or a couple 6-7 yarders, men will slowly start moving in the box. Even if it is not much, every little bit will help to set up the passing game.

Let's just hope winning games is enough to make them happy.

As far as ball distribution goes, throw it to the most open guy!
