Off Coordinator For Sundays Game

41 posts in this topic

Again, you're the OC for the Ravens and we're playing the Steelers this weekend. It's our 1st possession and we're on our own 27 yard line. What play do you call in this situation? I'm gonna call a delayed draw for RR.

Hand-off to Rice or McGahee, whoever's starting. I'm testing this Steelers defensive line early and often, even if it results in a couple of three-and-outs. This game will NOT be a shoot-out, so I wouldn't approach it as such. Getting three-and-outs isn't bad, as long as the offense keeps inching closer and closer through net field position. My logic is, the Steelers' front seven is their strength, so if we can make their strength a weakness, then beat them that way. If it doesn't work, then adjust and go to the air.

I say we start the game with no huddle. McClain is the starting back. We spread them out and attack, attack, attack. Lots of hard runs right up the middle while setting them up for the pass. I would continue to hit them as hard as possible right down the middle. It will wear them down early. They cant stack the box because of the threats we have at reciever and tight end. I believe we can get 5 and 6 yards at a pop right up the middle with McClain.

I think we should start with a short/medium range play action pass. The steelers always crowd the line of scrimmage and blitz us right off the bat. I think we can catch them off guard early and get Joe so quick confidence.

If I were offensive Cord. I would call a quick slant. Don't give the Steelers anything to cheer about with a stuffed run or a long pass play that ends in a sack. Get out there get some positive yards, set the tone.

If we employ 3/4 WR sets, no-huddle quick slants (with our possession guys) , we should prove effective. Steelers always do this against us and it works. Negates the pass rush and utilizes our guys strengths.

First few possession, lets relenlishly pounding steelers defense. Hand the ball to Rice and then McGahee. Joe needs to recognize when safty are pulling closer, he need to call for deep on the sideline for Boldin or Mason. Shotgun to TJ and deep pass to Mason or Boldin.

On the first play I put two TEs out there Heap and Dickson, with Bolden out wide and the play will be halfback slam designed for McClain.. If the defense looks to be on the blitz audible out to quick pass to one of the TEs... But I want McClain to get a few carries to began the Physical Battle.. the first power punch of the fight

I would like to see us run the ball 6 out of the first 10 plays so that we can establish that we will run more than pass in the eyes of defense then switch to the hurry up and start throwing shorter passes (an extension of the run game)... We should have an advantage with our Wrs and TEs over many teams but the routes being ran are usually really short dump offs or long bombs rarely do we run 6-10 yd passes to set up shorter downs

Also it seems that we have a tendency to run Ray Rice on first downs early in games and become predictable after we only gain 1 r 2 yards on consecutive first downs it switches to long bombs on first downs which is giving a down because the bombs almost never work for us Really... We never seem to get a 40+ yd gain although it seems to be open it usually falls right off the finger tips of the WR

I would start off by handing off to McClain. Maybe even have him as your tailback, for the first couple of plays. Like I've said before, hes the perfect battering ram to go against this defense.

After they get comfortable with McClain, it would the perfect time to put in Rice.

McClain needs a FB blocking for him to run...hes too slow to the hole without one.

True. Do we even have another FB in our roster?

lol no, which is why I dont know why alot of people on this board think McClain is the answer for this game.

Well McClain is the one guy who could overpower some of those Steeler LB's.

McGahee is wildly inconsistent, and I don't see him doing much against this D. Rice could have a great game, but it all depends on how his knee is feeling by Sunday.

But you make a good point. The Steelers D has way too much speed for McClain to run without a FB blocking for him

Exactly. Try and hit Boldin. Let him get some good solid YAC right out of the gate. We need positive yards early. We are becoming a habitually late game team, and its very frustrating watching us give a lead early almost every game.

I agree. I always hear people upset about us not using McClain. But people don't realize that Neal made McClain a running FB. We give him the rock, he'll get stuffed at the line without a lead blocker.

Heap actually blocked at FB a few times in preseaon and they gained pretty good yards

I'm handing the ball off 50 times this game

Flacco has shown in the past he holds the ball to long against this Steelers Def.
That's like gift wrapping the game to the Steelers. They are hoping we run it 50 times this game.

I'm not saying don't run the ball, I'm hoping for a balanced attack. But you have to take chances. I'm pretty sure even Batch will be taking chances down the field.

He didn't have as many weapons in the past either. And before you bring up the Bengals game, the Steelers' CBs aren't as good.

What makes you so? Every game we have played them for the last couple years have been so close - even without Roethlisburger last season it was a close game.

What happened to dickson and pitta? Y aren't they more involved in our passing game? Did they even catch a pass yet? I know we have heap who is playing great but we need these 2 rookies to play more with 2-3 TE sets. NE is using their 2 rookie TE to the max and I know our rookie TE are just as good. C'mon cameron and flacco, get dickson and pitta the BALL!

That is partly because they have no one else. They lost Watson during the Offseason. So their only options are the rooks and their paying off. We still have Heap

Right now the team is opting to enlist Heap's help more in the blocking game w/ our hobbling offensive line. Plus we have Housh in the slot which makes it much more a viable option than the 2 TE set.

Be patience the time will come. We aren't rushing to start our TE rooks because there is not a present need. But the time will come for them to shine.

Heap has playing well which is why the young TEs haven't been more involved. Pitta only has one catch for a yard but against the Bengals Joe missed him deep after he had separated from the safety. Dickson has a grab for 17 yards which also came against the Bengals.

Polamalu aside, I don't think any Steelers player is all that good in coverage. Hopefully, Cam gets them more involved this week.

The biggest keys are giving Joe enough time and Joe not holding the ball. We know that the steeler d will get pressure at points but giving Joe some quick pass completions may cause them to dial it back. You know Labeau is going to come out firing baiting Joe to make a mistake.

The 2 most important players in this game will be Oher and Yanda IMO. If they can protect well, Flacco should have a good enough game for us to win. Flacco showed us in the game against the Jets, that he can play well without a good running game, as long he has time to look downfield.

But if the 2 tackles play like they did against the Bengals, we might see another multiple INT game for Flacco.
