Maryland Universities

I'm applying to colleges and I've been thinking of going to one in Maryland. What colleges are there in Maryland and what are they like? Quaint, bustling, large, small, academic, party-oriented?!

There is no Baltimore State--there is University of MD, UMBC, Frostburg, Salisbury, CCBC, Hopkins, Coppin, Morgan, Loyloa, Notre Dame, Stevenson, McDaniel it depends on what you want.

My son is at CCBC and is going to transfer to UMBC , CCBC is half the price since its a community college. Salisbury is a party school if you like the beach and Frostburg if you like to ski and party.

Towson University. Best party school in Maryland hands down. Football team sucks but its a very chill environment and it's 70% female. Lots of hot chicks lol

Ditto. Make that two votes for the U of Towson.

They also have pretty good academic programs as well. Does the OP know of any area of study you'd be interested in?

I'm a UMBC alum, so I am biased... but it's a great school if you're mainly interested in getting an education. If you want to learn AND have a good time, go to Towson or University of Maryland, College Park.

I'm going to College Park, so I may be the most biased of all haha..

It's definitely the most prestigious public school in the state, hardest to get into. Decent party scene and big enough that you don't have to see the same people twice, if you don't want to. It's located in the middle of the not-so-nice city of College Park but the campus is beautiful, anytime of year.

Plus, we have black squirrels. Can't go wrong with that.

But I love it here. Studying Environmental Science and Policy and doing pretty well. I would recommend it.

The lighter colored ones are better because you can spray paint them with school colors and watch them run amok. Way to many squirrels on campus. But when I think about it, if I were a squirrel, I'd live on campus too.

While I was (briefly) attending College Park, we would refer to UMBC as U Made a Bad Choice

My son is attending Maryland as well. He received scholarships from both MD and Loyola. Chose the big school scene. Absolutely loves it there!

Same here!

Loyola was actually really intriguing, nice campus, and relatively closer to Baltimore. Way expensive though, something around $50,000 a year!

Can't go wrong with College Park, though. D.C. is a great city, too.

Isn't Loyola a really preppy school?

Prolly, if by "preppy" you mean "rich". If you can't afford the $50,000 a year, and don't get a scholarship, you are probably not going there (obviously). Like I said, their tuition is a king's ransom.

Also, it's a Jesuit school, so keep that in mind.

I went to Notre Dame which backs up to Loyola and loved it and yes it is expensive
Is Notre Dame cracked up to be, or is it just over-rated?

I could be wrong but the College of Notre Dame in Maryland is girls-only..

Unless you're willing to make some drastic changes, I don't think it's the school for you :P hahaha

Notre Dame's all-girls? More the reason to go. I'll be the first male they ever accept!

I currently go to Towson, there are a lot of people from NY/NJ that go there. I see you are from NJ, so you won't be alone in that regard.
