Housh (Still) Disappointed With Role

280 posts in this topic

It seems that Housh's two receptions in three games displease him.
"It's different," Houshmandzadeh said. "I've got the offense, for the most part, I would say. There's certain things where I still make a mistake here or there, but for the most part, I know what's going on. I'm just not getting the opportunities, really, for whatever reason.

"Is it frustrating? Yes and no, because the only time it becomes frustrating is when you expect things and look forward to things, and I didn't expect them. So it's still frustrating, but it's not as frustrating [as it would have been] had I been on this team all training camp and things of that nature."

"They wanted me to come here, I assume, for a reason," Houshmandzadeh said. "And hopefully, we'll see what that reason is."
I don't think he's going to go all T.O. (who also is frustrated on his team) on Baltimore, but this might be something to keep an eye on.

A game winning touchdown later, and he's still not happy.
Houshmandzadeh ranks sixth on the team with five catches after four games. According to the former Pro Bowl wide receiver, he was told that he was going to get between 50 to 60 catches before he signed with the Ravens.

"For me, I knew coming in what I was getting myself into," Houshmandzadeh said. "But I believe in myself. So the belief in myself said once they see me, things will change. We’ll see if that holds to be true."
Another interesting quote:
"Q [Anquan Boldin] is going to be happy. That’s just the reality of it," Houshmandzadeh said. "Q and [tight end Todd] Heap, they’re going to get their balls. They brought Q in, they gave up draft picks and gave him a nice contract. They’re going to find ways to get him the ball. I can appreciate that because I thought that’s what I was getting [in Seattle]. I wish it was me. But it’s not."
More from Housh.

Quote

When asked if he's happy playing in Baltimore, Houshmandzadeh replied with a question.

"This is how I equate it: What is your job title?" Houshmandzadeh said. "You like coming up here doing this? If they told you you couldn’t do that and somebody else was going to do it, would you be happy with that?

"Exactly, so that’s how I feel. It’s not a big deal because I knew what I was getting into, not to this extent. There’s nothing I can do. I work hard in practice. As long as we keep winning, it is what it is.”

Houshmandzadeh is an extremely honest individual, he'll say exactly what's on his mind. I don't think he's as disappointed, more just itching to get into the game..

Maybe he should have caught those passes in Cincinnati, though..

Agreed. The Browns games was the only game he hasn't seen at least three targets.

Would you like to prepare a full week and put in a game's worth of effort only to "involved" in ten seconds worth of plays? Nobody would. I do think Housh should get more receptions but he should also realize that his presence alone helps this team because of the attention he demands. (He'd demand more attention if he got more balls though.)

What TJ needs to understand, though, is that it IS only week 4.. There's still 3/4 of the season to go and his role should grow each week.

I don't know why he fell for the old reporters bait, gave them something to write. He should take a page from Derrick Mason, and just not talk to them.

If he wants more looks, he needs to break his neck when the ball comes his way to catch it. Trust is earned and if flacco throws to him and he's snaring everything out the air, then it will create more touches.

That's just it; he's selfish. Point blank. IMO He should be thanking his lucky stars he was signed to a competitive team.

Housh is a great receiver. He is our future starting WR after this year IMO. (I'm sure this is Masons last year)

You've got to remember, the guy didn't have training camp, or any pre-season games, if I'm not mistaken. Give it some time. He will become one of Flaccos favorites.

Like Berad said, he'll start seeing more balls thrown his way when he stops dropping them. Until then, Housh needs to keep quiet. If he wanted to see more time, he shouldn't have signed with the Ravens.

He dropped some crucial passes in the Bengals game. I would like to see him make a bigger impact but he is still new to the team. He will find success if he keeps his head up and doesnt start a pitty party

I guess when you've worked your entire life to become one of the best at your craft, you should just be happy that you're working.

Boldin is the main man, he should have known this coming into Baltimore. Flacco is still developing as a QB, so he obviously can't spread the ball around the field like some of the other elite QB's can. I like Housh though, he says whatever is on his mind. If he's displeased, he should just be patient and wait for our offense to finally peak. He's a damn good WR, and we should get the ball in his hands more, but this is hardly player-team dividing drama.

Gimme a break. When you get payed MILLIONS to play a game for our entertainment you should be happy PERIOD. If you need more motivation than that then you are a waste of skin in my book.

he cost us a chance at the game in cincy, dropping passes doesnt earn any trust but if he can come though this week i'd guess he will be back in a good rotation from here on.
dude has got to come through.

Maybe this is why Mason decided not to talk to the press anymore. Cause he knew this guy would be a Chatty Kathy.

I guess we've been TO'ed (sorta like a Rick Roll without the music and just whining)

Doesn't Flacco's favorite have pepperoni and mushrooms?

I remember literally only one drop for him in that game. And one drop this whole season. He hasn't come through because he hasn't seen much playing time.

Don't get me wrong, he's far from perfect, but I'm tired of people saying he has a problem with dropping because that's straight up not the case.

If he honestly believes he knows the playbook well enough (which I'm sure he does) and if he honestly believes he can help this team in a big way (which I'm sure he does), then of course he's eager to get out there.

Just give him chances. There's no excuse at all if when our passing game is struggling this week, TJ isn't brought onto the field. He's very tough, very talented, he's sure handed (contrary to what most of us are saying) and he's played against the Steelers numerous times, in and out of Pittsburgh. I damn sure wanna see him in on the act because he can prove all his doubters wrong and even make sick catches like the one he had against the Jets.
