Ravens Cut Trevor Pryce, Sign Ken Hamlin

Meh

TP's great play days were far behind him..but he still gave our line stability

Only way this doesn't suck is if this means its time for Kruger

Posted on Twitter, "Perhaps it was a tipoff when Ravens replaced Cory Redding on Sunday with Brandon McKinney and not Trevor Pryce". Good point.

Pryce had already been injured at that point...

Whose Twitter account did you get that from?

Unless I am missing something, this is the kind of move the Ravens needed to make to get Kruger regular playing time. TP was done two years ago and has barely registered an impact play. All TP was good for this year was blocking an OL. Sunday we are going to see Kruger and Cody activated with significant playing time. Isn't that what we wanted in the first place?

I agree that bringing back Hamlin makes no sense especially since he is going to get cut again once Reed is activated.

You do realize he led our team in sacks last year w/ 6.5? He actually had a very nice 2009 campaign considering he was playing opposite of a struggling Suggs.

But Nevertheless he looks off his game starting this year, 3 games in.

I think Hamlin was brought back becasue we really only have 3 safties in the mix and Ruki has been playing nickel. I wonder who theyre going to cut when BA and Reed comeback?
TP did a horrible job of sealing the edge last week.

I like this move. Can anyone pull stats on which teams Pryce got those 6.5 sacks against last year? We played some weak OLines and just because 6.5 led the team doesn't mean it was spectacular. I mean, doesn't Clay Matthews have 6 sacks already this season? We need to get better at the DE position and with each game this year TP is and was only going to slip farther from his pro bowl form. Better to fold him now then try to ride it out and wait for him to get blown up later in the season. The argument that he led our team last year is also moot because at his age and size his body is degrading in dog years--not everyone takes care of their body like Ray does, which is one of the main reasons he still performs at a high level--and furthermore our pass rush last year was pathetic.

The coaches have seen something in the tape that they don't like and feel that Kruger's upside finally outweighs Pryce's experience, plain and simple.

I know if he was on IR (or expected to go onto the IR) he would be required to get an injury settlement. But if he's not going onto the IR then he could be released. That's my understanding.

yea, i have no idea.... unless they will resign him after this next week....

Trust in Ozzie. Best bet is yes, we re-sign him after the Squeelers game.

So: release him because he can't play and sign a guy who can and then pick TP up later?

When BA comes back it looks like Miller or Phillips is gone (to the practice squad).

Yes, picking up TP later, seems the case. TP is an excellent professional who even took a pay cut to stay with us.

Art Jones and Paul Kruger better be ready for Pittsburgh.
case you dont remember last year paul seemed to end the steelers hopes of a comeback and he was in a down line position then dropped back and woops some one threw a pick

This is very unexpected. If they wanted to get rid of a defensive lineman, why not let go of Jones or Divens?
Jones is a rookie and Divens is only 24.

The Ravens have terminated defensive end Trevor Pryce's contract & signed safety Ken Hamlin back to the team. Visit http://www.BaltimoreRavens.com today for more details.
What??? I love Pryce!! He's probably the most decorated player on the team. He's a 4 time Pro-Bowler and has 2 Super Bowl Rings!! We need his veteran leadership.

He already took a big pay cut just to stay on the team! Cory Redding is out with a concssion for who knows how long and now we cut Pryce for our 5th Safety who didn't outplay Zibby?? I don't get this....

Not too surprised. Kelley gregg is next.
I doubt it. We could definitely see Gregg released in the off-season but he's still a solid player.

This leaves me scratching my head as well. Pyrce proved yet effective last year.

Hamlin showed absolutely nothing in TC and Preseason . Leaves me to believe the front office has something up their sleeves that they aren't telling us about.
I agree. I think we should all relax a little. Oz isn't done with this one yet. This will all make sense in a few days and we will say "Ohhh Oz, You did it again"

According to Rotoworld, Pryce could be re-signed next week but Redding has been a better option and McKinney was getting more snaps than Trevor too.
