I cannot agree with this move at all nor can I find any logic in it.

Ken Hamlin did nothing in preseason to prove that he belonged on the active roster. Furthermore, in a game where a physical pass rush is needed, Trevor Pryce provides more inherent value against the Steelers than Hamlin does. Beyond that, Pryce has continued to play reasonably well despite his age and having come off an injury.

It's one thing to release Pryce to bring in a younger pass-rusher. It's another thing to release Pryce only to bring in a guy who cannot contribute in an area that is most needed.

I'm sure the front office knows better than us why this was done, but I can't think of one good reason.

That, in a nutshell, explains the release of pryce and the trade of Barnes. I dont get it.

Did pryce do something? And like others said redding is still a question so paul might get into this game but I don't expect an impact gotta play to get into game shape

Obviously they want Cody and Kruger active at some point, and to do that we need to make room in the DL rotation. No reason to carry so many lineman just to deactivate 2. If they cut Kruger half the people in here would have meltdowns.

With the Barnes trade, I could see the logic because the team was trying to get value for an unproven guy with potential, on a crowded depth chart with little chance of seeing many snaps, in a contract year where he could still outplay his salary and be lost for nothing in the offseason.

With this move, it makes no sense in the short-term because the key to beating the Steelers has always been a good pass rush coupled with minimal turnovers on offense. In the long-term, the Ravens could risk losing Pryce to a new team and then be left scrambling for another stop-gap solution on the defensive line while Cory Redding continues his road to recovery; remember, concussions can continue to have an effect even after a player is cleared to play.

Before anyone jumps to the conclusion that the Ravens cut Pryce to negotiate a reduced salary, Pryce had already taken a pay cut and, as a vested veteran (player with four years of service), is also guaranteed his salary for the season since he was on the roster by Week 1.

Hamlin was cut before Week 1, so as a vested veteran himself, the Ravens were not on the hook for any money owed to his salary.

I have been waiting for this for a while... but find myself surprised when it finally happened. Pryce and Gregg have both looked OLD lately, and I figured the Ravens needed to get replacements for them ASAP. But I didn't think they would release either one of them BEFORE getting someone to fill in for them. I guess we know what position everyone is going to be begging for in the 1st round of the upcoming draft! D-LINE!

I'm assuming this means Terrence Cody is ready to go?

I really don't get why they signed Ken Hamlin back though? When is he ever going to see the field? That spot couldn't be used better for depth at... defensive line or offensive line?

Pryce is on the decline of his career but still effective in his skill set against poor opponents. He has been nothing but a rotational player for the past few seasons and from what I have seen and read we have some pretty good youth waiting in the wings if given the opportunity. He has played well for us since coming here but I trust the FO on the move and now I'm excited knowing that we will see Cody and Kruger in action sooner than later! These guys have worked through some adversity to make their debut and I hope they flourish in their attempt to make a positive impact on this roster. Good luck to Trevor though but this could be the last we see of him on Sundays.

This leaves me scratching my head as well. Pyrce proved yet effective last year.

Hamlin showed absolutely nothing in TC and Preseason . Leaves me to believe the front office has something up their sleeves that they aren't telling us about.

Well, TP was hurt on a play Sunday. He hobbled off the field, didnt he? Yet, I heard nothing of the injury unless my eyes were playing tricks on me and that was Redding... I remember the player grabbing his knee though. Maybe TP is hurt or contemplating retirement?

I guess this is Paul Kruger's time to shine. He's probably bulked up and the Ravens are ready to give him a shot since Pryce only has 1 tackle on the year.
