Is it me or does the Bucs logo look like its made of a flag and an Abe Lincoln zombie with a comb-over?

The of TB logo was just sad, and by sad I mean <orange>. HE'S WINKING!!!

Not my fault they picked "Cardinal". If teams want something better to work with, they should pick a name that's cool. Not just one that coincides with the location. Like the Bills. That's it? Might as well be the "Buffalo Barbecue Sauces". Seattle has a lot of Seahawks. But I guess that's all they could come up with next to the "Seattle Suicide Rates". And I don't even want to know what's going on in Cleveland.

Just saying, we've tagged someone else for saying that word. No offense to him but we have to be equal across the board. Just took it out.

I posted this very topic yesterday, but I didn't add a poll. I do so now on the advice of one of the previous post's commentators. So may the best logo win!! Sorry I had to split it into 2: a poll can only have 20 choices.

That logo.. It's got everything going...

Huge loop earring, dagger in the mouth, wink in the eye, hair in the wind, feather in the hat, the mustache.. 0-14 isn't so surprising..

Sorry about the "word". I spelled it funny hoping it wouldn't bother anyone.

By the by, Every <lame> person I know down here would agree about the Bucs old logo, lol.

BTW Berad, maybe covering the "word" up with the word "lame" might not bode well with "lame's". Just saying.

I've always liked the Redskins alternate (Arrowhead on the helmet) logo.
I've never really cared for the Titans logo.

The Flaming Thumbtack!

I like the old school Patriots Minuteman logo too. But that's not the trend anymore apparently.

Go right ahead. I think I saw it in and stole it from one of Dr. Z's columns on SI.com before he had his stroke. He used to refer to the Titans as the Flaming Thumbtacks all the time :)

I know you're only doing your job (and since this is the off-topic forum, I'm allowed to go off-topic) but having to change that is pathetic.

And it's without logic. Not only is there a group of people whose existence we can't acknowledge, we're not allowed to even mention the name of this group. All to spare a few "feelings" from being hurt. But at the same time it's perfectly okay to have a team in the NFL called the REDSKINS. It's okay to gather a crowd of thousands of fans wearing "Redskins" shirts with painted faces and feather decals on the helmets, but all we're allowed to call the old Buc's flag is "orange".

He was using it as a derogatory term which was the problem.. You're free to say "gay", "homosexual", "same-sex oriented", etc as long as it's not in a negative connotation. It has logic.

That's our reasoning behind it. I hope that makes more sense than me just blindly censoring any use of the word(s).

*Changing it from "lame" was more of a joke than anything, mistaking "lame" for "handicapped" isn't really common, I (and he, probably) was just being a smartbutt.

That reasoning doesn't exactly jump out at me when I read...

It sounds more like a precedent thing than a connotation thing. But, sadly, I understand. I just have a thing about censorship. It's not that big a deal, I just brought it up because, if you'll indulge me...

This has to be the most glaringly humorous censorship situation I can remember. Think about it:

The Redskins are an NFL team with a stereotypical Indian (yes, Indian) on their flag, and that's fine apparently. And just by coincidence, many NFL fans show their support by painting their face and bodies - both stereotypical to Indians. Now, the old Buc's flag pictured here is referred to as "gay", but, because "gay" was deemed too offensive, it is now described as "orange".

That's funny.

Well I just told you. The word (even though intentionally mispelled) isn't offensive in itself. The connotation and context of it was, though. Maybe I did a shoddy job of originally explaining my reasoning, but there you go. In the original (before this thread) instance, we took it out because it was used in a negative way - did the same here..

As a crappy analogy, I'll say this: it's equivalent to the word "pansy" in the way it is benign, alone, but can be used in a derogatory manner and be inappropriate. Saying, "that flower is a pansy" is okay. Saying "that guy is a pansy" is not. It is inflammatory when used in that connotation.

Shoot, I'm not making this any clearer.. It is not the word or the group, itself, but the context that the word was used it. Go ahead, say "gay", "lesbian", "pansy", etc to your hearts desire - but using it as an insult or as a negative remark is not allowed.

---------------------------------------------------------

As an aside: body paint isn't a Native American stereotype, people have done it since their creation. Tribes in Africa paint themselves. Vikings, Huns, and Franks (among others) in Europe painted their bodies. It's not a solely Native American tradition, people all around the globe have done it.

And I'm not agreeing with the Redskins name or logo, it most definitely is offensive to the Native American population (Indians are from India). It's a racial slur. I agree with you on that one.

Good gravy. Berad was right on point. We were just having fun after that. The ACLU is not needed in this instance.

EDIT: Like I said, every one of those people I know would say the same thing or get a good laugh out of it. It was never negative. I sometimes forget there are overly sensitive people in the world.

Tell me about it, and if someone gets gigged for a violation they hand us a list of other people's violations and scream censorship and favoritism because so and so did not get called on it. We are dammed if we do and dammed if we don't. Well we seriously don't read every word and check all 8000+ posters profiles every day.
There must be something in the air.....
