Tab Perry

Tab perry 6'3'' 210 lb WR and ST returner was rumored to be shopping around the league, also being linked to talking with the ravens. He was a UCLA STANDOUT! at returning punts and kick offs. He shattered the majority of ucla's ST records while in college oh and by the way...Did i mention the ravens were looking at him? With Harb addressing special teams first in free agency by signing Aby-dabby-doo could tab perry be a possibility too? Darling now plays for the chiefs and sams isnt coming back next year( at least i dont think??) Do you think perry could be our next pick up via free agency?

I could see it, but only if he can actually really be the #4 WR.

Figurs seems to be pretty good at the moment, the question is how good. Maybe there will be a camp battle.

It doesn't make sense to sign Perry just to get another great return guy that can't get on the field at the #4 WR.

At the same time, I'd rather have this guy than Darling.

When he was with the bengals he was the number 3/4 guy only because of tj and chad + he was injured i think so his reps were limited. so the number 4 role i would imagine wouldnt be a problem.

remember when sams went down with an injury that one year and we had to fill the hole with reed, smith, and whoever..

if not just to have a solid 3/4 WR at least add depth to Special teams.

1.clayton

2.williams

3.mason

4.figurs/tab perry

if figurs goes down who replaces him? reed? and risk the chance of our pro bowl saftey getting injured returning punts??

last year one of our ever growing list of problems was depth.

We prolly could sign him for less than a mill in cap space (minium for vets is $750,000) i think we could get him in the $950,000+ range. For depth and more talent in the wr corp i think it'd be worth it. Remember he was a bengals wr and we all know how good their wr corp is. Cheaper alternative to bryant johnson i think

Sams is a DB so he wouldnt affect the WR core, I think Tab would be a nice pickup but I dont think we need him right at this moment with Mason, Clayton, D-Will, Figurs and Heap back fully healthy, I cant see him being a constant factor on the O, and as a returner well we already have Figurs. I dont think we make a run at Perry unless we want to split the returns and run crazy five receiver sets this season, either way we would probably be overpaying for potential in his case.

Thats if we incorporate figurs into the offense

depth doesnt take away from other wr's roles

u have 2 starters with 2 back ups thats 4 wrs

plus depth incase of injuries 5/6 wr on a roster for most teams

and i think their is a 5 wr roster requirment anyway? not sure exactly. sams only offered returns never defense and with figurs being the main returner sams was basically his backup until we released him. so perry could act as backup return man incase figurs has to miss a couple game plus can step up and play WR if needed.

I think he would be more of a depth pickup then role player. And really if you look at our roster we have all the key players we just need to start addressing depth at wr, rb, o-line, safety, corner.

1.clayton

2.williams

3.mason---perry or figurs would replace him when he's gone

4.Clarence moore

5.figurs/perry---essentially taking over darlings role + adding depth to special team + would slide up to 3/4 if clayton, mason, or williams were to get injured.

if we did make a run at perry im sure it wouldnt be to split returns but to address depth, and as far as overpaying we pay boller3-4 million to jus be a backup.. <_<

116 mil between a starting roster and signing perry would be no more than 1.5 mill a year+ he has 3 yrs experience to offer. so really it depends on how much you wanna spend on depth and with the season we had last year (injuries) i think its a good investment.

I think it should be more like this...

1. Clayton

2. Mason

3. Williams

4. Figurs

Mason is a possession receiver now, he wouldn't be very good in a slot reciever position. Personally, I think Williams would be more effective as a slot receiver due to his greater speed over Mason. I dunno, thats just my opinion.

i think that the concept of thinking that "the more help we can get....the better" comes into mind here.....i mean it certainly couldnt hurt us, it can only benefit us. and having a player of his calibur and/or his style on this team would (i think) become a vital part in what and where this team whats to do and where it wants to go.....i could see him becoming a part of this team IF and only IF....he is more than willing to join and come here, and its willing to mentor and give players feedback and possibly valuable concepts that could be taken into account on game day if everything works out properly. and just doesnt join a team based solely on the concept of "how much money can i get?"..team is the key.
