Smith hit Heap in the facemask, Oher did not like it, Oher pushed Smith--should have been off setting but you know the rule--he who retaliates gets called.

Reminds me of the bit in the Blindside where he was told he needed to protect the QB and the RB like they're his family. Looks like he's got Heap's back aswell!

What I don't understand is why the Brown played started shoving Heap.
Yeah, they tried to argue that Robaire Smith didn't know the whistle was blown and kept playing, but I don't buy into that explanation because Heap had his head turned to see what the call was and he wasn't actively engaging Smith.

Exactly. Smith definitely deserved a penalty for that nonsense.

It most definitely should have been off-setting penalties.

However, the football gods smiled and approved of Oher's reaction to stick up for Heap. Thus the converting from 2nd and 20+ then we converted the drive into a TD... that, my friends, is good karma. We got that TD despite the refs...

These things are only penalties when the Ravens do it. Heap can get pushed around after the whistle with no flag but when a Ravens player does it its against the rules.

+1

I was really pumped up at that drive, screaming obscenities at the referees and the city of Cleveland, itself haha. So glad we went down and put up 6 on them when after that <bad> call

I've noticed that Oher is kinda easy to bait in to confrontations...what game was it last year in which he went kinda berserk?
He's a fiery guy but how is he "easy to bait"? He saw a teammate getting rough up unnecessarily and defended him.

I think I remember this too. I believe it was when someone got into Ray Rice's face and Michael Oher pushed him out the way? not sure

That my friends was the turning point of the game. M&T got so fired up it was like a playoff game. That call woke up a sleeping giant that is called the 12th man. Our Ravens rose to the occasion and dashed all hopes of a Brown victory. I knew after that call that there was no way we were going to lose that game. GOD BLESS AMERICA!

thats not THE RULE> Its just what usually happens when there is a pile or a crowd. No one ever sees the first blow. In this case everyone SAW the first blow...and the second. Both commited by Smith. He had no reason to go after heap and Oher was protecting his boy. Should have been offsetting PFs no doubt.

legend is thinking of Cousins against Pittsburg.
Nah I specially remember it being a Oher personal foul

And I would have loved to see the criticism of this play had we lost...it was a 4th quarter slipup that bc we won..no one cares about but had we lost we would be dwelling on it to no ends

It showed that Oher has heart. I don't think that he was the only one that should have been flagged. Good thing that Heap caught 2 passes after that to redeem himself. The best part was where they had to hold Oher back at the end of the game. He was ready to go after that punk.

Can't blame him. I would do anything Sandra Bullock told me to do.

Penalties like that I will take any time because it gives our guys energy and shows how we got each others backs during the game. Oher would of destroyed Ro-bear-bill.

Yeah, I'm sure he would be happier without the 15 yard infraction but a lot can be said for having a fight like that, mid-game. It can sway the momentum of a contest.

In this game, for instance, you can't be mad at how they played afterwards. The Ravens offense responded, scoring ten unanswered points and closing the game out on the final drive. The defense, too, might have been effected; they shut down Cleveland's offense, forcing two three-and-outs on their two drives after that fight.

So, yes, emotion has an effect on the game.

I agree. While I don't think Oher did it, on the spot, thinking it would motivate the team, the outcome is effective. It's human nature.
I'm proud of Oher for standing up for Heap, and the team.
That is exactly the type of guy I want protecting Joe. No question.
In fact, that was one of my favorite plays of the game.

There is no way to prove that.
