Romo Ravens

Ray Rice?

67 posts in this topic

Harbaugh will likely talk about Rice in his presser at 4. Aaron Wilson nor Jamison Hensley are talking about Rice possibly tearing his ACL.

Conflicting reports?

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/09/27/ravens-say-ray-rice-didnt-tear-ligament/

Apparently, there's no ligament tear according to John Harbaugh and an MRI test. I'm more liable to believe them than the twitter-verse.
Yeah, I agree with you there. I don't know how much I trust a Twitter status, unless it's from a major source.

Like Schefter, who Ravens Beast mentioned.

I was searching the news feed on google and just saw this posted 2 mins ago from the Raven insider:

By Aaron Wilson
Publisher
Date: Sep 27, 2010

BALTIMORE – Baltimore Ravens Pro Bowl running back Ray Rice sprained his knee during the fourth quarter Sunday against the Cleveland Browns, an injury that apparently doesn’t involve torn ligaments or cartilage damage.

Ray will be ready for the steelers. Count on it. However i would like to see mcgahee start the game off and if the ravens need him, ray rice could come in later in the game with fresh legs against a more tired steelers d

I understand what you're saying but if Rice is ready, the Ravens should use him. He had big games against the Steelers last year and while their D looks incredible, he could rip off a big play or two.

Good news.

In Harbs presser right now he says Rice just suffered a contusion on his knee.

Dodged a bullet. We still might not see him this weekend. This news just made my day. Sorry no link yet , just heard the cut on 105.7

The Fan just played audio from Harbaugh's press conference and he used the words "significant contusion". This is jut my opinion but we may not see Rice for few weeks.

Did Harbaugh say he's day-to-day? I'd love to see him play on Sunday but a "significant contusion" makes me believe he may not be able to play.

Hopefully it isn't significant like Beanie Wells's contusion. He ended up having a secret scope done. That would be significant in my eyes.

Can't see him missing any more than two weeks max.

True but that is if he's healthy. Harbs is very big on his players health even if they think they're fine he will keep them out to ensure they will not go in and turn a small injury into a season ending injury.

I thought he did, but my ears & memory could let me down. The thought that it is "significant" also makes me believe we won't see him this week.

True if not McGahee needs to step it up and get big yards. We have to get the run going because if we become one dimensional Polamalu is going to be just sitting there expecting the pass all day which isn't good. I can see Mason having a big game because after watching the film they are going to try to shut Boldin down opening the door for Heap, TJ, Mason, and others. Man I love having a lot of weapons it's just up to Flacco to bring his "A" game and the Offense to minimize mistakes and penalties. I'm not worried about defense because I know they are going to play with a chip on their shoulders after Hillis put us together on the run last Sunday.

The weapons are there and Joe certainly has to play well but so does the o-line. Harrison, Woodley are constant threats to get a sack whenever a QB drops back and you have guys like Timmons and Aaron Smith that can rush the QB too. If Rice misses the game, it obviously won't be a good thing but McGahee is a better pass protector which is a plus.

I think McGahee can certainly step up and get a good game against the Steelers(by that I mean about 75yds). Throw in McClain on those short yardage situations with a tight end, an extra offensive lineman, and Heap as an H-Back, and he should be able to get some covnersions. Maybe a little bit of Parmele when necessary. We should be fine though, we just need to do enough on the ground to not be one dimensional. It's also good to not air it too much, Pitt is definitely known to force a turnover or two. As I'm typing this this NFL Network is talking about Pitt possibly having the best D lol.

I was starting to agree with you until you said put Heap as a HB.

And the Steelers are a top 5 defense. They havent really lost anybody in recent years. The only reason they werent up to standards last year was because of Troy and he's back.

Lol did he think I meant halfback? Think of Chris Cooley. They're not lined up right next to the tackle, but a little behind. Kind of halfway between a tight end and a fullback. They line Heap up there a lot, especially this year. Its a great way to utilize a guy that is mobile and can block well.

I'm glad that the injury isn't as serious as it could have been.

Does anyone know when he was hurt?

They dropped alot of games to the Patriots this decade, I believe.

I think the defense dropped off because of a Superbowl hangover. They missed the playoffs following the last SB win and Troy P. played 13 of the games (interestingly, they won all three that he missed and only three that he participated in), and they missed the playoffs in the year after the SB before that (which Polamalu had nothing to do with). Of course, that's just my opinion.

Just through the wire:
Citing a source close to the running back, the Baltimore Sun reports that Ray Rice "should be good" for this week's game against the Steelers.

The source indicated that Rice's injury is "not that bad" and he's "walking around like his regular self." Added the source, "He definitely could play this week — depending on how he feels and how the doctor and coaches feel." Barring a late-week setback, Rice should be safe to pencil into starting lineups for a tough matchup at Pittsburgh.

Not so bad. That's good news, He might not do much in the rush department but he adds that other dimension that the Steelers will need to prepare for.

Agreed. I'm amazed Cam has never done this but on some third downs where Joe is in the gun, I'd have both McGahee and Rice in the backfield.

He did in the preseason on 2-3 plays.

Boldin, Mason and Clayton wide, Rice and McG next to Flacco in the shotgun.

It sucks even more that his injury coincides with the Steelers game. I'm sure we'll do good anyway: Batch will be very hard-pressed to get more than a TD against our rock-hard defensive wall. :229031_thewave:

Thanks, I had completely forgotten about those plays. Hopefully, he pulls that formation of the play-book again.

It all depends on how fast Ray heals. The doctor's orders for an injury like that is to rest it. They didn't start practice until today so he had at least 2 full days for it to heal. I don't expect him to practice to much this week so hopefully he's good to go sunday.
