Ray And Cal

18 posts in this topic

It is amazing and incredible that Baltimore pro teams have two of the most prolific, lasting and talented legends to play their respective games.
Cal was the ultimate Oriole,we can only remember the glory days of winning, and of course Ray is Mr. Raven...
The passion for playing surpasses everything with these guys - both insprirational!

Let's not forget Johnny Unitas.

Yeah, but he was a bagillion years ago; Cal and Ray have both been omnipresent in the past two decades.

I'm a Colts fan but I love the way Ray Lewis plays football. Heck I have a poster of him hanging in my Colts' room.

Nice. I would think putting aside who your favorite team is, I think anyone who truly appreciates the way Football is played, would truly appreciate Ray and his style when it comes to playing Football.

I was reading something on the Bleacher Report and someone had a slide show about the 50 biggest NFL storylines for the season and one of the slides was about Ray and his age, the first thing he said was "Does Ray Ever Age?" and to answer his question, if he has aged he is doing a great job not showing it but certainly we know the answer... Ray Lewis doesn't age... Ray is like fine wine, only gets better with age.

Now for Cal, I would say he is the best player to ever suit up in a Orioles uniform, and one of the best to play Baseball and the city of Baltimore has to be happy that Cal only suited up in a Orioles uniform and they will be even happier to know Ray Lewis will have only suited up in a Ravens Uniform.

Ehhhhh I don't know about Cal being one of the best Orioles to ever suit up in the uniform, yeah Cal is a legend to the sport and Baltimore as a whole since he is a home grown born and raised Maryland/Baltimore boy. So of course he is and will be probably the face of the Orioles, but there have been ALOT of Orioles that have been GREAT and wore the uniform! Brooks Robinson for one don't have 16 gold gloves for nothing, plus the rest of the hall of famers that wore a Oriole uniform. As for Baltimore football, hands down Ray will always be a persons first thought when ever the Ravens are brought up! Johnny U as well for the Colts, with plenty of others who wore the Baltimore Colts uniform. All in all that is a great topic to debate with the greats that have worn Black & Orange and who have worn Black & Purple, last but not least White & Blue!!

Well For the Colts it's simple:

- Best BALTIMORE COLT to put on a Uniform: Johnny U

- Best INDIANAPOLIS COLT to put on a Uniform: Peyton Manning

Now back to the subject, yes certainly it can certainly be debated that Cal is arguably one of the best to ever put on a Orioles uniform just like it's arguably that Ray is one of the best to put on a Ravens Uniform.

You know, it's kind of funny, but I've noticed how Baltimore as a city seems to have their legends be "lifelong Colts/Orioles/Ravens" and never play for anyone else at an alarmingly high rate. It's especially unusual with the Ravens' three future Hall of Famers in this day and age, though I wouldn't be shocked if Reed ended his career elsewhere.

I see where you're coming from, but Johnny U finished his career with the Chargers. I doubt Reed will finish his career some where other than Baltimore, just my opinion.

Michael Phelps! Baltimore Blast(won championship 5 of last 8 seasons). And because I consider the Caps a Baltimore team misplaced... I'll throw Ovechkin in there too!

Johnny U may be a "bagillion years ago" asyou phrase it, but not every one on here are 10 years old - we also need to remember players like Brooks and Frank Robinson
Orioles), Raymond Berry (Colts), Jim Palmer ad Boog Powell (Orioles), Bert Jones and Jimmy Orr (Colts), Mark Belanger and Davey Johnson (Orioles) and Art Donovan and Gino Marchetti (Colts). We've had the best in many decades and we're used to the best.

he's retired. I thought we were talking about active players....playing legends. JO ain't doing us no good on the couch.

we have two hall of famers on defense...and look at the results and consistency. Hopefully we can get a skilled hall of famer on offense. I think Mike Oher can develop into a HOF lineman.

Best Ravens Ever:

Ray Lewis
Jonathan Ogden

And I am very proud that I can say I was in the Yard the night Cal broke The Streak. :D

Baltimore has truely been blessed when it comes to having The Orioles had Brooks before Cal. The Ravens have Ray, and the Baltimore Colts Had Johnny U. I have gotten a chance to see all of these men play except #19 but I did meet him on a few occasions before his death. Got to love baltimore Sports.
