Oher played LT at Ole Miss and was solid filling in for Gaither when he went down last year.

But assuming Gaither was healthy why do they have to move him over to RT?

I think it part of it is money. They likely feel Oher has more of future with the team than Gaither and being that LT is a more important position, they want Michael playing there now so they can lock him up with confidence in a few seasons.

Its a business and a chess match. It sucks, but sometimes that's the brash decisions a team has to make.

From a financial standpoint it does makes sense and also explains why Gaither might be a bit unhappy.

As it is essentially a demotion and can affect future earnings.

I guess Ozzie could not get Gaither to buy in on this change.

It seems Oher was moved to LT because he had experience there and was more dependable than Gaither. Gaither frequently goes down with injuries just like Gooden. Oher is more dependable to protect Flacco's blind side, and I think Gaither is soft.

I don't think Gaither was thrilled with the change but he isn't dogging an injury right now because of it.

Do you really have to ask? Oher is obviously the more stable player, you need stability at LT. When Gaither comes back, he might play some LT, but Oher needs to be the guy that they're used to having, because Gaither was likely to get injured this season. Looks like they were right, Gaither is out and Oher has had more practice at LT and is better prepared.
