Expectations 2008

50 posts in this topic

Looking at our 2008 opponents, I can't say I am thrilled to see we will probably have one of THE hardest schedules in the league, especially following a rough season. That being said, it is very likely we struggle to 7 wins this year, if that. What do you think this team can do this year? Of course, nothing is satisfying short of a Super Bowl victory, but we need to be realistic... remember, coach Harbaugh is a rookie as well. Personally, my expectation for him and the team this year is that we play our guts out to the last down and if we win, awesome, if we lose, well as long as we did everything in our power to stick with it I will be happy. I think quality over quantity (of wins) this year will be a good motto.

I'm not expecting this team to make it to the superbowl but i defenitely think we have a legit shot at winning our division. The Browns looked terrible in the 2nd half of the season with Anderson still under center i don't expect them to bounce back. Their defensive backfield looks terrible and their linebackers aren't exactly great. The 2 defenisve linemen they gave up all their picks for have not even played in a 3-4 defense before and they arenow 28-29 years old, so we will see how that works out. The Steelers are good but not that good. They destroyed us last year because of McNair and because of the fact that we did not have a solid cornerback on the roster (C-Mac and Rolle were out). It's hard to get something going when you have Pittman and Derrick Martin or Corey Ivy at cornerback.

If we can get a corner in the 1st round and if Troy has a good off season i really expect us to fight for the divisional title in the AFC North.

We could win the division with 8-8.

no, we definitly couldn't.

But i'm curious to see how our coaches are

and in this league everything is possible.

I expect the Ravens to play just as hard as ever.

We will still have a strong defense, but I'm hoping for improvements in the secondary.

I expect that the offense will continue to struggle - because, contrary to popular belief, players have more to do with production than coaches - and our players on that side of the ball leave a lot to be desired, especially with such a young line.

If the team stays healthy and the ball bounces their way in a few games, they could go 10-6 - but I expect 7-9 or thereabouts.

I still think we could win the division with 8-8. It's an extremely tough scheduele for the whole division and I feel like each team has gotten worse.

O.K., here it is.....i honestly think that we will battle it out with the browns for the division, it wouldn't surprise me. i do think however, that the browns are a good team that got better this offseason. even if the browns win the division, i don't see the ravens finishing any lower than 2nd with a wildcard spot in the playoffs. once in the playoffs, anything can happen!

Gotta agree with you 100%. Cleveland doesn't scare anyone at all despite their $$high priced FA pick ups. They gained some run stoppage but lost their pass rush from the DE with the loss off Justin (?). The loss of that pass rush spells disaster for their already suspect secondary and linebackers. Add to that Cleveland's criminal lack of depth at all positions and we have a team that will start early but fade badly after game 7 either through exhaustion or inability to cope with injuries. And don't be so hard on the Ravens CB's, Pittman, Prude, and Martin looked good despite being hung out to dry by the lack of a pass rush. Teams focused on Ivy, particularly in the last 2 games, and avoided throwing into areas where the 3 younguns were.

I think the Browns are tempting the football gods if they think they can win the division with:

Donte "The Hamstring" Stallworth, K2KneeSurgeriesAYear, & Shaun "Hamburgler" Rogers.

Im thinking a 8-8. We have the talant to go 10-6 or 11-5 for sure, depends if the O-line can block for our starting QB(McNair)!!

8-8 is more than reasonable....i mean because if we do Meet that goal of being a .500 team under a first year head coach and with a new system with new coaches on the coaching staff....its by far legitamite....besides (As i said before) its important to not set standards and expectations TOO high for this team because if we dont meet that goal you set, it can only lead to more bickering and controversy from people abroad.

I never go into any game saying hey were gonna lose so my expectation 24-0 (including preseason and playoffs). Now i would be satisfied with us making the playoffs and contending for a super bowl trophy anything less is ultimately disappointment. No getting blown out this year. I expect us to be one of the least penalized teams in the league. Finally I expect us to be the physical most feared teams in the league. And if we lose i expect us to dominate the opposing team in every facet of the game except the scoreboard a la the pats game.

that is a very bold statement you made, you just (and raven fans overall) have to make sure and/or realize not to have your expectations set Too Too high, for fear if we dont make it to that goal...then its a failure and bickering and conflict would ensue.....i think its great to set a goal of 24-0....but just remember to keep a human-like head about you lol and not to get all worked up if something doesnt go our way.

and im not saying you shouldnt, i mean heck by all means go for it, you just have to remember the human side of this deal and that you mustnt expect TOO TOO much from someone or some team for the obvious reason of failure and the afermath effect of the fans and people in the sports world talking about "not living up to expectations".

I'm realistic in the sense that I know that is not probably going to happen but i never "expect' to lose if you "expect" to lose than you have no business playing or watching the game. Saying 13-3 is good or i'm satisfied with 10-6 is cool but you should never "expect" it because that is going into a games saying hey were probably gonna lose this one.

i am not "expecting" to lose anything lol if you have read my posts before, im pumped about this upcoming season and thrilled to see what happens, but i know there is a slim to none chance of us going undefeated the entire season. it can happen yes by all means yes it can. but the chances of it are slim to none. and as for the expectations...i was saying it as in you should never expect TOO much from your team or someone because of the simple fact that, if they dont meet expectations....then everything is considered a failure and what not...i've seen it on here time and time again. and thus i think that if you set your expectations on the more reasonable and more "human" level of things....and they meet that OR perhaps go above that quota....then its GREAT!
