Willis McGahee

I know alot of people on here are Willis supporters as was I at the beginning of the season and I wanted to keep him but he doesnt seem to be running hard or have that fire in him.

A good example of this was the Jets game. When we were on the goal line after the Housh pass interference call we had Willis as our RB and Ngata as the FB (love having him block btw). On the first attempt Ngata threw a good block and Willis seemed like he was just trying to walk in the endzone like it was practice or something and got stuffed. Than it seemed like he realized we were playing an actual football game and gave the second effort on the next play to get in. But even than he didnt seem to be running that hard. I gave him a pass since it was the first game and overall our offense looked brutal (as I did with Joe).

I was thinking maybe its because he isnt getting enough carries and he needs to get a few more touches, which would help if we reverted back to our run first offense, because he seems to have problems coming cold off the bench.

You guys think im right or is Willis just having some problems early on that he can only fix himself

Our run offense still has some rust on it. We haven't seen it put to work like last year. I like McGahee a lot in those short yardage situations.

Following a lead blocker isn't about speed, it's about timing; giving the lead blocker a chance to create a gap in the D-Line for the RB to squeeze through. If the RB rides the leads coat tails, expect him to run into the blocker and lose all momentum .. or .. the D-Lineman to push the blocker aside and have no forward progress. Not saying that is what happened in this case, I'd have to go back and watch it again.

The only time I ever really see him run well is when he is getting the ball a few times, which isn't happening, and when we're in the red zone. I don't know what it is with Willis when he gets in the end zone, but he doesn't stop haha

You need carries to knock the rust off. I think both of our backs need more carries but cam wants to turn us into a pass first team.

What does that mean? It's only been two games?
I wouldn't worry about McGahee just yet. Like a lot of people are saying, our running game is fairly rusty.
They were being preserved in the preseason, and a focus on passing to Joe's new targets to get on the same page, also added to our backs not getting the ball much.

Last year our identity on offense was Run Run Run.
Teams knew that, they could hurt us by taking away the run game. This season will be a bit different.
As you can see so far, there hasn't been much of a running game at all.
What you are saying about McGahee, you could also be saying about Rice and McClain.

Well seeing as Rice averaged over 5 yards a carry I wouldnt say about him. McClain really hasnt got the ball at all. I think maybe 1 time on a 3rd in 2 or 3 I think is the only time he has touched the ball and he got the first to my knowledge

Willis scored our only TD on Monday night against the Jets and we have only scored two all year . He is mostly gonna be used in short yardage situations where speed is not a neccessity , getting the first down or TD is . We need to lay off of Willis and focus on other things in the offense that need to be fixed like getting the ball to the receivers . Everybody is hitting the panic button when there is really no need . Let's see what this week holds and hopefully EVERYBODY has a better game .

Everyone knows Willis is a monster in December. When we put Ngata in the line against the Jets, the entire team knew we were running to that side. Let him do his thing. He gives us some great highlights.

say we traded him though, who are the options that we would get for him. I wouldn't move him unless it was a #1 corner, we have a whole slew of #2 and #3 corners. I'd also consider moving him for a good tackle. (i know im gonna get neg'd for this but, Leron McClain wants touches, so make him the new goal line RB with Ngata at FB, and Ray Rice is obviously the starter, also Jalen has looked explosive on kick off returns so maybe he could also be put in on the rotation to provide rest for Rice)

Who will block McClain when the team isn't at the goal-line? And what if Rice went down? You'd be comfortable with Parmele and and McClain as the two starting RBs?

This dude's name is WACCO4FLACCO... and he's worried about WILLIS MCGAHEE? REally? McGahee is the one who doesn't seem to be trying hard? The one without "fire in him?"

Joe is trying hard and just because his personality suggests otherwise, he does have the fire to win.

Willis has touched the ball ten times. TOTAL. For the whole 2 games we have played. Against elite defenses. He needs more reps but more importantly, Rice needs more attempts. We are passing way too much.

Flacco isn't a gunslinger. We don't need him to be. We need him to manage games. Thats it.

KEEP RUNNING THE BALL, CAM!

Guys we have Anquan Boldin, Derrick, TJ, Todd, and the monster ray rice. EVERYBODY can't touch the ball 20 times every game. I'm sure during the coarse of this season every weapon we have on offense will have a huge impact in a game, that's the up-side of having so many weapons, so teams won't know who to gameplan for. When there's a game when the opposing defense has Ray Rice's number, Willis can put up 80-100 yards and win us that game.

I love Willis but let's get real. He, and rightfully so does not want to take the back seat to Ray Rice. He has the talent and skills to be a #1 on most NFL teams and knows it. Willis, to his credit, has really taken the high road and not disrupted the team. I for one would love to see him used more, but the modern day NFL is a what have you done for me lately kinda environment. I love having him on our team, but do know we owe him. Come what may, I loves me some Willis!!! Go 23!!! :baltimore-ravens:

I like Willis, but I think he is almost not a necessary need. We have the best FB in the NFL and one of the best starting RBs and a deep WR core. Willis could be a starter some where else, and I wouldn't be surprised if we could get a good CB for him to help out pass defense. A 3rd round pick and Willis could get os someone to make a impact in the secondary.

Willis is a legit #1 power back. Ray is a different type of back. Personally, I really like seeing Willis get the ball. Remember that run against Oakland? I think he ate that defensive back on his way to the end zone.

Preaching to the choir. Im a huge fan of Willis McGahee both on the field and off. He is a great guy and great football player. But Harbaugh wanted to reboot the team and he got two great players out of it, Flacco and Rice. Which is great i guess but Willis isn't getting touches.

I just want our offense to win us games because right now it looks like our defense is doing all the work and that doesn't cut it for a "super bowl" worthy team.

PS: Dont mention 2000 Ravens or I will smack you. We arent running the ball enough to be productive like that team.

Yeah I don't know what the answer is. Against those cover 2 teams, with our personnel, part of me would like to see some two TE sets with Willis in the backfield. Yeah, that takes a good receiver off the field, but we haven't had any success moving the ball against that kind of D for a long time.

He's far too valuable to trade for anything less than a starting calibre CB, which isn't going to happen.
Or a real tackle. But still not gonna happen.

If i was game planning us i would stop the Run and make Joe throw, if last week was an indication of Joe when he is rushed as another team i would make it hard for joe so this week i expect to see a lot of pressure, sacks and joe looking like a deer in the head lights again. You all know that's all you have to do to joe make him uncomfortable and he's not good enough yet to climb back. i love my Ravens but Joe isn't showing me anything, I would love to see more running the guys need to get more touches all of them in some way so if and when the throwing lanes open up for Joe , I'm a big believer in Running to set up the pass.

we really dont need anyone in the secondary. The guys we have are playing great. I would much rather keep willis, but if we trade him, it better be for a RG or RT, or a center to replace Birk.,,,,,,,,
