Eagles Go With Vick, Not Kolb, As Starter

26 posts in this topic

Even with Kolb cleared to play, apparently Reid decided to choose Vick to lead the Philly offense. I'm surprised Andy was so quick to change quarterbacks. They would have had to have alot of faith in Kolb to trade McNabb away, but all it took was two good games by Vick for Kolb to land in the back-up spot again. Oh well, I never thought Kolb to be a true starting caliber quarterback anyways.

The Eagles are screwed either way. Neither is a good enough QB to win their division; the only way they win that division is if everyone else drops like flies...which could conceivably happen. Vick is not the answer, Kolb is not the answer. Andy Reid should not have traded McNabb without drafting a proper backup to groom. Kolb was far from the intended long-term answer even though they drafted him in the 2nd round in 2007. The only reason he was taken was because he was the highest projected player on their draft board, in a weak draft class with a horrible crop of quarterbacks.

Like Franchise said, neither Vick nor Kolb is the answer at QB. Now certainly I can understand from a safety point and the way the NFL is heading with how they treat concussions that Vick is the starter until Kolb is truly healthy. Now if he is choosing Vick for long term.... than Andy Reid is basically admitting trading McNabb was a bad move.

And I thought it was only timeout and clock management that Andy Reid sucked at...

The Eagles fans better become familiar with 2011's QB class. Likelihood is they end up with one of 'em in the first round.

Vick's not the answer? You know this how? Kolb was highest on their draft board? And that's the only reason they took him? You know this how?

If the Eagles don't win that division, it won't be because of Vick. IT will be because their defense got 32 points put on them by DETROIT.

Was Vick ever the answer in Atlanta? And if Kolb wasn't high on their board, why did the Eagles draft him? Of course the reason they drafted him was because they felt they could eventually groom him to become a starter.

You ask Franchise how he knows Vick won't be the answer or why the Eagles drafted Kolb but how do you know Vick won't turn the ball over down the stretch and hurt the team's chances at a division crown or wild-card berth?

Well their QB situation, which was considered one of the bests if not the best before the McNabb trade, now sucks. It's the price they pay for getting rid of a true leader and player in McNabb.

But given what they have left, I'd start Vick this week also if I was Andy Reid. Just forget all this outside negativity about how Kolb being the future is falling through big time, and just put the best player out there. The one that has shown spark and the heart to battle back from frustrating deficits two weeks in a row (Even though they only won one of the two games).

Because he actually has an offense in Philly. Michael Vick has been working on his accuracy as we can see and is still as fast as greased lightning. Instead of bashing him about his past play why not say the possibilities that he may have as a pocket passer that can use his legs big time. He is remaining in the pocket and making his progressions instead of running first. I personally like what Vick is doing in Philly and I wish him the best of success this season. BTW he has over a 100 passer rating right now. This board is amazing. Flacco is playing horrible and we go to his aid and side with him through his problems and give as many excuses as humanly possible. Vick is playing exceptionally well and you guys are bashing him saying he is eventually going to cave in. I think he can get comeback player of the year and if he can maintain his elevated level of play with his arm and of couse his legs, he could make a "run" for MVP. There I Said It!!!

If you have not noticed..... Detroit is playing really well on Offense. They have lost 2 heartbreakers and could easily be 2-0. They arent as bad as you think anymore

To your first sentence, he had two quality RBs in Atlanta, a solid TE in Alge Crumpler and got Roddy White(who has become a star since Vick left) in '05. He did have offense.

Secondly, I didn't "bash" him. I simply asked was he ever the answer in ATL because for the hype he got, he wasn't that good of a QB.

I wish him success in Philly too and would love to see him win CPOY and make a run at the MVP after it looked like his career may be over just two years ago. But to say at this point in the season, if the Eagles don't win the division, it won't be because of him is presumptive. There are no guarantees he'll maintain his current level of play.

All I can say is that it looked like Andy Reid struggled with spitting those words out of his mouth. Looks like he had his arm twisted.

Vick wasn't the answer in Atlanta. He pumped his stats up against the lions and shoot em out Packers. Time will tell. Vick might work out, but we'll just have to see.

I am really glad that Vick is getting a real second chance. I've always believed he deserved it, and now that he paid his dues so does most everyone. Hopefully it all works out for him in his future, because he's an exciting player to watch. Wonder what is going to happen in 2011 for the Eagles at QB

Regardless of his past, he played exceptionally great last two games. I really enjoy his style of playing. I don't know it's kind of weird that I like the left handed QB lol.

Sometimes QB shines in certain system and appears dull in others. Vick seems to fit well in Philly game system. His execution of plays, vision, and accuracy look sharp so far. We'll see how he plays in tighter situation.

I think vick very well could be the answer for philly. He has legitmate weapons now, something he never had in atlanta. How are you going to contain jackson, maclin and mccoy, and still keep vick from raising hell??

I just want to know why Andy changed his mind after the last week of saying Kolb was still the starter. Why do you say on Sunday & Monday that Kolb is still the starter and then reverse that on Tuesday? It will be interesting in week 6 if Vick is still the starter when they face Atlanta.

Anyone notice how angry Kolb looked when they interviewed him today. He looked like he was going to punch holes in his locker.

I would be too, I mean Andy Reid showed confidence and faith in Kolb by trading McNabb now Reid is pretty much back tracking and admitting that the McNabb trade is and was a dumb move. Also Reid is getting ahead of himself, there is a difference in Vick playing the Lions defense, and playing a defense that can actually stop Vick. All Vick will do is move the Eagles from drafting in the top 10 to about 15 in next year's draft.

You never know because he looks really smooth out on the field. If he wins 49ers, Falcons, Redskins, and Titans next couple weeks, he is the real deal.

From Andy Reid on ESPN in what has to be the MOST absurd quote.....

"When asked Wednesday whether Kolb would be on the Eagles' roster after the Oct. 19 trade deadline, Eagles coach Andy Reid said, "Listen, I can't predict anything down that far; nobody in this league can do that."

Oh I dunno just ask the Ravens, Colts, Pats, Bengals whether Flacco, Manning , Brady or Palmer would be on their teams respective rosters past Oct 19? I "think" the answer would be an absolute YES

I think I like this move. Everytime I hear Kevin Kolb's name I remember "Second and inches."

Alot of qbs have gotten the hook. Did anyone see NFL Total Access today? When they were talking about Oakland's qb change, they said that Bruce Gradkowski led the Raiders to a win over Baltimore and Cincinanti last year.

It's apparent Andy Reid has no time management skills, now it would appear he isn't a man of his word.

Kevin Kolb was "his" guy and he's basically giving up on him already. When asked if your guy will be on the roster by the trade deadline you don't mess around, you give a firm, definitive yes. You show that you're dedicated to your guy, unless, of course, you aren't really dedicated to him at all.

Mike Vick effectively placed Andy Reid's balls in an ever-closing vice. To be honest, it's no less than he deserves after dealing McNabb. Andy Reid is much like Norv Turner in that their teams have all the talent you could want but both consistently fall short of the Superbowl. Atleast Reid's GM isn't screwing him out of 2 of his best players.

Vick is not the long-term answer, but he's the lesser of two evils right now. History in the NFL has shown that mobile QBs have short careers as starters until they improve significantly as pocket passers. Vick was more polished, I'll give him that, but he's far from where Donovan McNabb was in his development after 4 or 5 years in the league. Vick's performance was saved by some great improvisational plays by his receivers and the Eagles defense clamping down at the end.

Kevin Kolb was stated by Andy Reid on draft-day that he was the highest-rated player on the Eagles' draft board at their given slot. I remember it because I live in Eagles Country and everyone was confused as to why the Eagles took a relatively little-known QB so high, especially with McNabb still playing at a reasonably high level. I couldn't turn on the local news without having the Kevin Kolb debate played over and over again. Reid's soundbyte was recycled so many times, I was sick of hearing his heavy breathing into that tiny little clip-on microphone.
