Our Defense

39 posts in this topic

How, if anything, could we make our defense better? I know we have one of the best defensive teams in the NFL, but we must always strive to do better. Our defensive line definitely needs to bring their A-game against the Steelers and Dolphins! Kakamura, Ngata and Ray Lewis are awesome, BTW!!

If Kindle was healthy our dime edge rushers would make life easier on our DBs, the pressure those two would put on together would be impressive imo...btw who the hell is Kakamura...he sounds like a beast

The only way our defense could be better is if we literally built a wall around the end zone.

Or, they could catch the INTs that are thrown right to them. Worst turnover ratio in the league. They have been playing lights out, but lets not act like they coudn't improve. A few of those picks and we would easily be 2-0.

It was a joke. I know they could use improvement - but frankly, I'm satisfied with the job they're doing now. (As, I'm sure, is everyone who isn't trying to score on them.)

It's actually Nakamura. And I believe he is Landry's back up.

They are playing awesome, what more can you say. The offense now needs to get up to par, 76 rushing yards a game simply isn't enough.

It's only been two games. There was no excuse for not piling up more rushing yards against the Bengals but against the Jets, the running game simply couldn't get going.

That's mainly what I was talking about, I'm still pumped that we beat the Jets but really, we should of been cramming Rice down the Bengals throats in the 2nd half.

Agreed. The Browns should see a lot of Rice this Sunday.

No team has scored a Td on or defense yet, however our secondary is letting teams get into field goal range and teams are beating us with a kicker. Most teams are getting there kicker ready to make field goals when they play us because that is pretty much all they get.

They've been shutting people out, but I've seen several drops that could have been easy INTs. Can't complain when the D doesn't give up a single touchdown in two games, but we might need some defensive touchdowns (or at least the filed position) to win in these games if our offense keeps this up.

Wrong again. If I'm not mistaken opposing teams have been in or very close to field goal range after all 5 of Joe's interceptions this year. You can't put that on the secondary.

Everyone thought that the Bengals offense was just going to light up our secondary, but they held on strong the entire game and kept giving the Offense a chance to win it.

I wouldn't be surprised if we got through the first 4 weeks without allowing a TD on defense. The Browns have absolutely nothing against our defense, and against the Steelers we just have to stop the run, and take advantage of that terrible Oline.

Hopefully the Offense can get it going this week against Cleveland, because with the way this defense is getting healthy and playing it could be scary for opposing teams

Our secondary is second in the league for YPG behind the Titans

Our pass rush could improve a bit, although we are getting push, we areant getting to the QB as much as i'd like. And i think we have not capitalized on key opportunities for turnovers, laundry had a dropped INT and i believe there have been 2 more dropped INTs this year.

Just a few stats, and we all need to keep in mind we have played the Jets and Bengals who both put up a good offensive performance against the Patriots. We also need to keep in mind our next 3 games are Browns (no offense), Steelers (no offense, byron leftwich or batch will be starting against us), and the broncos.

#2 Total defense: 214.5 yards/gm
#2 yards/play: 3.9
#1 first downs: 10
#1 3rd downs made: 4
#1 3rd down pct: 14
#2 pass yards: 109.5/game

Another thing to consider is, the team that is ahead of us is the Titans... who have played the Raiders (no explanation needed) and steelers (won on defense and had no offense).

Our defense is playing lights out, and is gonna be just as good in the coming weeks. Our first real test will be the patriots.

Good point. A defensive linemen who can run with an intercepted ball like a RB would make our defense all the more fearsome. I must also apologize to Nakamura for typo... I love you man, keep up the good work!

That's what I'm concerned about.
Two or three passes were completely thrown to the chest of our defenders and they just couldn't catch it.

Not to excuse him not coming down with it, but the pass Landry didn't come down with was to his left. The pass Zibby dropped was a gimmie though.

Correct.....our secondary has actually played lights out....Rmore74, not really sure where get your info from.

Jets game- under 100 yards total
Bengals game- TO and Ocho only had 7 total receptions

We are great on D but we're going to be hearing the same excuses out of the sports writers. "They didn't play anyone with a good offense".
"But what about the Jets, and the Bengals?"
"They just had off-games when you played them."

At least in the latter half of the season, when we're playing the Texans, Saints, Falcons, even maybe the Bucs, we'll have Ed Reed.

I seriously doubt we will hear excuses, league and the media is taking notice that we are for real. Sanchez lit up the Pats ( will continue to light up other quality teams ) and Carson and the Bengals put up over 20 on the Pats too. Not saying the Pats have an amazing defense but with Bellicheck leading the relm, their D is always pretty aight.

Also, reason our D is not generating turnovers is pretty simple, offenses don't have to take too many chances on us, they can play it safe so-to-speak. The offense is not putting pressure on opposing O- Coordinators to really open up their gameplan. As soon as our O starts to generate something , the turnovers will be there. We need to jump on a 1 or 2 scoring lead most games, that would help the D alot as far as getting turnovers are concerned ( would help me in FF also considering I have our D, LOL ).

our defense is not the problem its <deleted> offense, our defense is probably the best defense in the last 10 years, year in year out we had the defense that suffacate offenses, but our own offense killed it.
