Good Game Guys

23 posts in this topic

I would have been here, win or loss. Overall it was a tough AFC North battle and I'm just happy we got a much needed win aside from the offense playing horrible, credit to Baltimore's defense, just wayyyyy too many penalties that set them back. The Bengals definitely aren't great right now and still have a lot of work to do, to get better. I do think a lot underestimate how good the Bengals defense can be when they come to play, I was impressed today. The Ravens have a lot of weapons to stop on that offense. While I'm proud, it's just one game with a loooong ways to go. To the Ravens credit, I believe they are playing better than most anticipated as well. (On the defensive side) We'll see you guys again week 17. Good luck the rest of the way.

Hopefully by week 17, we will have all of our offensive and defensive players healthy. It's only a matter of time until our receivers get comfortable with the routes and Rice has a great game. Not to mention the impact of having Stallworth and Reed back. I don't think that the Bengals will continue to struggle on offense and have as many penalties in the 2nd game. It will be a much different and higher scoring game. My prediction: Ravens 31; Bengals 17.

Let's be honest, this was an ugly game for both teams.
I think the fact that Palmer has more experience with his offense was the deciding factor.
The Ravens were able to shutdown Benson, but we also shut down Rice. I believe he was near 100 yards at the end of the 2nd quarter (I forget the actually yardage 75-85)
The penalties against Suggs and Ray Lewis were a bit ridiculous, I'm sure you would agree, but that is not the deciding factor.
It's possible Flacco is hurt from the Jets game, but he was a non factor in helping this team today. Actually I think he helped the Bengals more than the Ravens.
I still have faith in him, he had his worst game ever, good to get it out of the way.
I expected more offensive firepower on both sides, especially the Bengals.
Our defense kept the game close for us. No touchdowns in all preseason and 2 weeks into the season. That's impressive, but that has always been Ravens football. Lack of offense and stout defense.
Hopefully Joe will get on the same page as our new receivers and this offense will work itself out, otherwise, if we play like we did today, it's going to be a long season.
Hats off to the Bengals kicker.

Palmer must have gone shopping for skirts with Brady in the off-season.

I wouldn't say that.He didn't scream and call for the flags.i can't question his manhood on those...just the blindness of the refs

Unfortunately bad calls happen in games and you just have to rebound, they had their chances to do so. Some of the calls were questionable, but I've been on that side before and ultimately, that wasn't the reason they lost this game. The Bengals defense definitely won us the game today, they came to play, that's for sure. I wasn't impressed with our offense, but I was defense so overall I'm OK. Got to play better though, or we won't get very far. Also, you can't question Carson's toughness, he's been through a lot of beating over the years. He didn't ask for that penalty, he just got it.

No one blames Cincy for the calls that went there way...just how the dice rolls. They're not the reason we lost anyway, so its a moot point..

No, they're not the reason. They're a reason, because they both came at critical times when the defense had made stops. Another reason would be that we had a -4 turnover ratio, and it should have been closer despite that. The defense had a good chance to win the game for us without those two BS penalties, that's a fact. Both on third down, both led to field goals.

I haven't even watched the game yet, but nobody should be blaming refs for a loss. They call the game with the tools they are provided. Want something to call bs on? Take aim at the NFL and its greed machine. More points scored = more tickets/tv packages sold = more revenue = protect revenue at any cost. That cost just happens to be the way the game is played; to compare football before the millenia and the watered down crap we have today is a joke. No wonder lacrosse is becoming more popular...

Congrats on the win. Not sure this was a good game for either of us. AFCN seems to have lost their offenses. Perhaps sympathy pains for the Steelers? Nahhhh. We'd never do that lol

See you in week 17!

Out of all that...that's the only thing you pick up on? Congratulations... now, do you have anything of actual use to say? (you know, besides stating the obvious) :th_thimpatient:

Rules involving hits on the quarterback are recently becoming pretty nitpicky. Because the NFL is trying to "balance" protecting the QB and keeping with the nature of playing the game, they create rules that can easily be misinterpreted or leave too much up to the discretion of the refs (whether this is purposeful or not is entirely up to individual judgement).

People can say, "Well you can't leave the game in the hands of the refs" all they want, but that doesn't change the fact that the NFL is becoming pretty extreme in their establishment of rules and those rules' enforcement. Look at Megatron's TD catch? They continue to say the ref made the right call, but that was never the point; the point was whether the rule that disallowed that TD should even be in existence. One example out of hundreds. The NFL needs new ownership, imo.

And btw, I think kickers are being cuddled to no end as well; I may be one of the few, but Braylon's "running into the kicker" penalty against us last game was complete crap. Again, the ref made the right call, but the rule is garbage and should be thrown out completely. The only people the kicker should blame for possible injury are the players blocking for him, the same goes for the QB.

Good game?? Were we watching the same game? Short of the defense (who played very well) the Ravens played very poorly over all. I cannot speak for the Bengals, but from my end it was hardly what I would call good. Win or lose that was very dissatisfying to sit and watch.

Cincy, good post. And I want to say thank you to you and your city. My wife and I went to the game yesterday. The fans in Cincinnati were INCREDIBLE. From the minute we got downtown, we had nothing but the best experience on a road game we've ever had. We didn't get heckled, just a couple "WHO DEYs" which is to be expected. They approached us, told us congrats on picking up Housh, and told us good luck. In the stands, the people we sat around were amazing! A couple actually told us that was the most fun they've had at a game, because we were there and had such a positive attitude throughout. We were talking constantly with the fans around us, and they were very friendly throughout the game. We've been to Indy, Pittsburgh, Miami, and Cincy. Your fan base was a class act all day. Thanks again, and we will definitely be returning to your city next year. Good luck, and see you in week 17.

Thanks for your post, Cincy. Very classy, and I for one really appreciate your reaching across after a game and showing good sportsmanship. I love football (and especially my Ravens!), but I really dislike all of the hating that seems to go on. So this was such a nice post to read.

There will be over-analysis over why the Ravens lost and the Bengals won, but quite simply it was the turnovers. Few teams can overcome a -4 turnover ratio, and none can against a team as good as the Bengals. Blame Flacco, sure, but last I checked this was a team sport. So while he needs to make better decisions, the O line need to keep pressure off of him better and the receivers need to get more separation from the secondary. And the Bengals secondary is awesome - they didn't give an inch all game. It was textbook and way better than what we saw against the Jets. I have confidence in our offense and our QB. And I am so jazzed by our defense - they are playing brilliant and disciplined defense this year.

I will be there on Sunday to see the Ravens take on the Browns...Go RAVENS!!!
