Grading the Team

28 posts in this topic

Offense:

Joe Flacco: He is now 1 TD 5 INT on the season and it is only week 2. He has played 2 great defenses in back to back weeks but it shouldn't be unexpected as he has never fared well against the Bengals D. Except for his lone TD drive he looked lost and confused throughout and his 2008 and 2009 ball pat started showing up. Also his throwing stance was terrible basically not moving from when he snapped the ball. If these performances continue I can't see how the coaches could continue to start him.

Grade F

Ray Rice: Basically the only person on offense who came to play. It left me scratching my head why he wasn't being utilized more. He was our main contributor for first downs and the only reason we had any points on the board.

Grade: A+

O-Line: I don't believe they could have played any worse, they were constantly being beat flushing Flacco from the pocket nearly every play. Oher looked abysmal constantly getting beat making me believe we need Gaither back to LT and Oher at RT.

Grade: D-

WR/TE: The entire unit seemed to be invisible the whole game. No one would get separation and when they did they dropped the ball or couldn't get there. Boldin was the only receiver to move the chains but failed to score, though he had a very nice tackle after one of the many INTs. Mason made a nice catch for a TD, even though it looked like the corner didn't even care about covering him.

Grade: D

O-Coord: Cam Cameron called possibly the most frustrating game I have yet to see from him. If your QB is struggling you don't let him continue to pass and make mistakes when Rice is handling the defense. It seemed as though he wanted to experiment in game with what he could do and he utterly failed. May I ask you why we came out in shotgun with 5 minutes and 3 minutes left, 3 time outs by the way. Made yourself look like a fool out there.

Grade: F- (Thats Right)

Defense:

The Defense once again dominated and were given poor field position time after time and still have yet to give up a Touchdown. Yes they did get lucky with a few of Chad's drops but other then that they played stellar. My only problem is there lack of generating turnovers when the offense keeps giving you opportunities. I have a feeling we won't be seeing any Raven INT's until Reed is back. Regardless though they played fantastic and were on the field much more then they should of.

Grade: A

Controversial Calls: The Suggs and Ray sack both were penalized allowing the Bengal's to take the lead. I doubt a single person would agree with either call. Ray got his knees chopped from under him and Suggs already was initiating contact when the ball was thrown.

I said the same thing about Cam and the play calling!! I think you at least give Joe FLUKEO a rebound game next week, but heck it's Cleveland so who will really know. I mean what do you got to lose, throw Bulger in there and make him earn some of those millions and maybe that will start a fire up under Joe! Cam needs to be smacked on their 2nd to last drive, you have 4 minutes and some odd seconds left down by 2. Why are you going to continue to try and air it our when Joe was suspect all day long. Yeah he could have got a little better protection on plays, but it was mostly on himself!! He looked like he had no poise no confidence and looked like a freaking MOP!! Cam decides to air it out when they could of pounded it for a few first downs milk the clock and try for the winning field goal, creep out of Cincy and get their minds right for the home opener!!! No let Joe continue to air it out, great play calling Cam, YOU FAILED!!

QB - D-
Flacco was terrible. I think we all saw that and it doesn't require too much elaboration.

RB - C+
A+ is a little strong for my liking. Rice played fairly well, and we should have gotten him the ball more. But we put up 10 points so frankly no offensive group deserves an A+. Also McGahee and McClain were ineffective.

Line - D
Flacco had little time to throw and Rice had hands on him at the line of scrimmage or worse on most runs. I agree, Gaither is far better than most people here give him credit for (or was) and Oher isn't what he's suggested to be here either.

TE/WR - F
For how highly touted they are (there were threads asking if they were the best in the league) they didn't come to play today. No separation, there were some catchable balls that weren't caught.

DL - B
Did a decent but not excellent job of . Got a little bit of pressure from the unit aswell.

LBs - B+
Were sound in coverage and in pursuit. JJ and Suggs got decent pressure.

DBs - A+
Those are two vaunted receivers that we faced and a promising rook in Shipley, and they had I think about 175 pass yards. Good to see Webb back. Doesn't look quite as fast as he did but I wouldn't expect him to, really.

I agree with the RB grade, wasn't really an A+ but it wasn't bad either.

I'd give Flacco a D- and not an F because of that one drive where he showed poise. More of the blame, in my opinion goes to the O line.

I was drinking the purple koolaid before the season started with the new offensive weapons. I started worrying when the Jets exposed the weaknesses in the O-line. This week we couldn't even string together an effective drive until the 3rd quarter. I think that we should have put Bulger in in the 4th quarter. He seems to have the ability to get rid of the ball quicker and can read the patterns better. You can't win when you are turning over the ball. It will be a long season if we don't get this right. Next week, we go against the Browns. Let's get the offense rolling.

Well...yep on offense it was a mess...very disappointing and, unexpected.

I don't know what is up with Flacco, he needs to shake it off and return to the QB we know he can be.
(Grade F)

O-line was not at its best, WR not getting separation.
(Grade D-)

Note: Ray Rice was excellent, why didn't we run more?

Offense overall - (Grade F)

Special Teams - got burn a few times almost a turn over
(Grade C-)

Defense overall (grade A+)

OK...it sucks....but my question is is Joe Flacco going to curl up into a fetal or come out better because of this...I say its time to nut up or shut up!

now....lets more forward!

Well Wr's can only be as good as the passes thrown their way and right now our QB's grade is a big fat F! Make up all the excuses you want, F-Bomb!

Defense A
Qb F-
I don't want to lump offense in with flacco. He's a one man wrecking crew. The front office bought the guy a Ferrari and he doesn't know how to drive it.

The F for Flacco is silly. One pick came late in garbage time when he had to take a shot downfield. Two of the other picks were tipped at the line by D-Linemen. The other pick was on Boldin who gave up on the play and let Pac Man (how embarrassing) outwrestle him for he ball. The O-Line was absolutely terrible and couldn't block anybody for 2 straight games.

As one guy on Hard Knocks once said. You can't expect somebody to make Chicken Salad out of Chicken ****.

I didn't see the INT to Hall get tipped at the line.

It was quite clear in the replay. That ball wobbled all the way into the Bengal's hands. The announcers totally missed that.

Defense = A

Offense = D- (would be an F if it wasnt for the Mason TD)

But seriously I think we are in good shape. Considering we had 4 turnovers and we were still in the game with 2 minutes to go. When you are -3 in turnovers and still have a chance to win, that tells you we are doing something right....on defense that is.

OK. I must have missed or not the watch the reply properly. Joe made some terrible throws today but that looked very under-thrown.

This is exact opposite of how we expected. Our offense was supposed to be beastly, and our defense disappointing, but its like our Pass Defense and Pass Offense switched.

The worst part about getting beat in this fashion is we start second guessing ourselves and what works. I have no idea what is going on with this team but i will try to bring light to the situation. Flacco absolutely horrible today point blank period. I think the worst thing we could have done is acquire a pro bowl QB and set him behind Flacco. Two special teams other than the field goal unit and Billy Cundiff are a joke. Zibby returning kicks with no explosion, the blocking on punt returns, and the coverage on kickoffs all horrible. Look Cam we are a running team if the run doesn't work keep running it it wears down a defense. I dare to say this but honestly we look better before all the off season changes. Harbaugh aren't you a special teams coach why does this unit look weak every week.

Bengals D-
Ravens F

Thats all that matters. We lost. You can sit here and point the finger at Joe, Cam, the O line or anyone else if you want. What will that get you? A headache and some heartburn. Let it go and move on. Next week will be another learning point. Dont expect the Browns to just lay down and let us walk all over them. They have decent corners and there D isnt too bad. I think Joe and Co. will rebound and then we will move on to week 4. It is not panic mode but it is a wake up call.

You love to see that from your coach, though - that fire!

He's willing to fight for them and, obviously, he will. I could hear him down in College Park, how loud he was yelling. And he had every single reason to! I expect some very interesting e-mails being exchanged between NFL headquarters and 1 Winning Drive.

thats what I thought as well. I have yet to see him punch a hole for Ray Rice every time he runs left. Gaither is better at being LT so far. Oher can block the coverage, but I have a feeling he'll work on that

My thought exactly. What is worse, I think the maturing process of Flacco sucks. Flacco and Cam constantly worked on the playbook and the only result they gave was a terrible plays that looked dead obvious on field. No sneak, no special techniques.

I'll give the defense a B+

They don't get an A because they dropped two gimme INTs that would have prevented 3 points on the first and very well would have scored on the second. We need Ed back!
