Shawn Merriman

With the recent news that Sergio may not ever play again. I was wondering if we thought about trading for him or try to sign him for a contract next year. I think he would be a good fit because we could have him rush on third downs and if ( god forbid) suggs or jj get hurt he's a good replacement. Also with suggs on the other side of the ball he may be able to get to the QB better

I remember reading something pretty scary about him that put me right off the idea. A degenerative injury or something. In any event he's lost the burst that made him good, now he's just a name. And signing those rarely pans out well.

No. He's a shell of what he used to be on the roids. Smaller, slower, weaker and can no longer get to the QB.

I don't think they would trade for him in the middle of the season. But if he's a free agent they might bring him in for a workout to see how healthy he is.

But please, for those of you looking at stats and saying "he's not good anymore," please just look at how badly the Chargers have fallen off as a team. They've gotten rid of almost their entire defense from when they were good. Jamal Williams is no longer there. That guy was a BEAST of a nose tackle. That's like getting rid of Haloti Ngata and then saying Ray fell off. Jamal was probably the most important player to Merrimens success. I wouldn't write off Merrimen's talent until I saw him play on a better team. Everyone says the Broncos got rid of all their talent and are going downhill, but the Chargers are pretty much doing the same thing the last few years.

Calm down? It was not a suggestion, it was question that you asked and he gave his answer with facts as to why he feels this way....the feelings that get hurt on this board are hilarious!

Stats have not been referenced once in this thread. The opinion that he's fallen off comes from actually watching him move slower and looking weaker.

This is what Merriman is now, slow and weak at the point of contact.

The thing that shocked me last season was seeing him get thrown around and completely outmuscled by McClain, you wouldn't have seen that back in '06.

If he somehow returns to form this season the Chargers will probably resign him. If he plays like he has recently, then heck nizzo

I would say sure but Merriman is gonna want a big money extension, regardless of how well he has not played of late. And we already have a massive investment in a player who plays outside LB in Suggs.

But I seriously doubt it will ever happen regardless.

What about picking up a Derrick Burgess or Adalieus Thomas. Since Barnes is gone and Kindle wont be around this year i really think one of these guys would help with the third down pass rush.

Burgess is washed up and the chances Adalius is brought back are highly unlikely for several reasons - him possibly causing a disruption in team chemistry being a main concern.

I wouldn't mind seeing him as Raven and have absolutely no valid point as to why.

I think he's from Maryland isn't he? Then I don't think Ray would have much of a problem adjusting his attitude. I look at San Diego and just, doesn't it seem like it's a "talent graveyard" or something? I mean look who wanted out, got out, then they played a little better. V. Jackson wanted out at some point didn't he? Heck I think even Rivers wanted to be traded at some point.

I don't know much about Merriman, but looking at his stats, is he getting used more as DE or Linebacker? I just think "Shawn Merriman" as a RAVEN! If he was happier here and resorted back to his old playing methods (old being 2 years cause he's only 26-27) that would make an already WOW defense even WOWIER! LOL.

EDIT: I don't think he's going to get paid all that much from any team. Maybe a mid to slightly mid-high amount, but the last 3 years haven't exactly been stellar for either news or playing reasons.

No way, absolutely not.
No steroids here.
I've always hated that guy.
The thought makes me sick.
[/quote]

LMAO! Jabara just threw up in his mouth a little bit over there.

Picture him running out of the tunnel next to Ray with a big purple "Merriman" Jersey on. Merriman Jerseys for sale in the souvenir shop.
