Kindle Is Probably Out For The Year

46 posts in this topic

So I'm watching sports center and they just said that John Harbaugh announced that Kindle most likely will be out for the year and might not ever play football again according to the news they got from team doctors.

So what happens now? I feel really bad for the guy but do we just get screwed out of our top draft pick? :(

Has it been announced here yet? I won't believe it until I see it here on this website.

But really did you expect anything else? He fractured his skull, for cryin' out loud in an accident. How is that 'screwing us out of our top draft pick'?

I'd much rather have him out for the season and heal properly then rush him into something that could be potentially dangerous.

Exact quotes can be found here: http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/sports/ravens/blog/2010/09/the_ravens_highly_doubt_that.html

While it doesn't count for much, Kindle believes he'll be "fine".

We got rid of Barnes because we wanted the draft picks back that we let go for Wilson. Plus its all good we can make another Barnes because its what we do.

This was SO obvious... I don't know why people thought he was coming back. Just because Sergio supposedly said through Twitter that he'd be back in a few weeks. Bet Ravens wish they kept Barnes now!

I doubt it. They didn't trade Barnes because they anticipated Kindle would be back.

Thats terrible news. Him being out for the year doesn't really surprise me. But never playing again is kind of surprising.

But at the same time, I could understand, because he hasn't even played a snap in the NFL, and already has a fractured skull. I'm not a doctor or anything, but who knows if he can take a concussion in his career. May be too risky at this point.

I feel sorry for Sergio, to grow up with dreams of being in the NFL, then once he's here, this happens. My prayers are with him and his family.

The timing of the news that Sergio was comming back and the Barnes trade were eerily close.

That would be horrible for Sergio if he could never play again let alone this year. My prayers go out to him. I was really looking forward to seeing him in the purple and black. I hope this isnt true but if so best wishes to him and his family.

Barnes went because we were stacked at lb even without kindle. We may have BA coming back soon.
I think BA is on the PUP so he should be available week 7 like Reed if i'm correct.

I think it was just a coincidence. This team just doesn't strike me as one to make personnel decisions based on player tweets.

Barnes is a good pass-rusher but he was going to see more snaps on special teams regardless. The team preferred Burgess, Jones and Phillips on coverage units more than than they did Barnes. Rather than cut Antwan, they go what they could for him.

From Harbs' interview on the Ravens home page, he said he doubts Kindle will play this year. He may heal and come back playing for us next year. However, when you have a fracture skull, it is just too risky to play football whereas head to head collision happened too often. I'm shock to see Kindle playing this year.

Such a bad news for him.....

Why is Kindle most likely being out for the year surprising to anyone? Yes, Barnes being traded and then the first comments on Sergio following the trade gave off an air of hope. However, I think most of us had a feeling that Kindle was most likely not going to see the field this year. As for his career being over before it started, I think it's too early to be thinking that. Let the man sit out this year, heal up, and test him next offseason to see what kind of progress he made and if he's still the pass rushing machine he was in college.

It doesn't surprise me. I was actually surprised when I heard he would be signed really soon and on the PUP and back week 7. This was a pretty serious injury from the sounds of it.

It's a bummer that he won't be playing this year. Next year hopefully we'll just have that many more guys to be excited about as rookies.

We go full steam with what we have. There's no change in anything. We haven't prepared expecting him to play this season.

Yeah, I didn't think he'd be playing this year either. I posted a couple times a few weeks ago that Kindle probably won't play and might just get put on IR.

well even before his injury our plans was to put him in on pass rushing situations or to give J.J a rest, but J.J was still the definite starter, its not like we got a #1 receiver who was drafted to save the team and he got injured, kindle was going to be a back up this season regardless, we're mostly just excited to see if he can translate his college performances into the NFL and we will now have to wait for that to happen.

In what way are we stacked at linebacker? Without Kindle and Barnes the only back up LB that I'd feel comfortable having in the starting lineup would be Ellerbe.

So now do we wait until the extent of the damage is discovered to sign him? No point throwing money at somebody that's never going to play. I hate to sound to cynical but the if a salary cap comes back you don't want a second round pick sitting on IR year in year out (Dan Cody - [Oh god I think we might have drafted Dan Cody again])

Looks like we'll never see what Sergio could have done, because even when he comes back he'll be playing off of a season-ending injury from the year before. Sometimes players aren't able to get it back after those, he was never able to get "it" in the first place.

This is a lesson for us all - don't drink and use stairs.

I was amazed when there was talk of him coming back in week 7. Fractured skulls take time to heal properly and football is not a normal 9-5, you are going to get hit and risk re-injury. I would not be surprised if he was advised that football is not the place for him at all :(. As for Barnes, I do not see this organization trading a player based on another players' self-analysis of when he might return. We prepared without Kindle in the line up. We will be fine without him in the line up. At this point, we will never know what impact he might have had this season.

Heal up Sergio! Hope all goes well and we see you in Raven purple next season.
