Sony Patents PS2-To-PS3 Link Adapter

16 posts in this topic
The long and puzzling saga of the PS3's now removed backwards compatibility with PS2 games may have just added another chapter. Japanese tech site Gigazine recently uncovered a patent filed by Sony Japan in February 2009, which appears to outline an "adapter" that could serve as a bridge for older generation games (e.g., PS2 discs) to be played on current generation consoles (e.g., the PS3).
Cool, so we only need one big box, one little box, and one wire. This sounds so simple.

I don't care how many cords or wires or necessary to make this happen, I need for it to happen! Honestly, I just don't feel like dropping $100 on a new PS2 and I don't feel like going back to wired controllers and memory cards; I'd assume that this adapter would allow for saves to the HDD and compatability with the wireless bluetooth PS3 controllers.

I'm guessing anywhere from $30-$50, most likely around that $50 range. Anything more is definitely pushing it since you can make the full jump to a real PS2 with a bundled game and two controllers for $100.

Yeah but in newer ones sony got cheap and got rid of the emotion engine chip, that ran the ps2 games. mean while the 360 plays almost all Xbox original games, lol.

Real talk, the ps2 still sells like crazy. I was in Walmart the other day and some young kid, along with an older couple bought a PS2 slim. I for one use my modded one all the time.
