I would say his career considering how horrible he's played against them
Can you tell me who has had a good career against the Steelers and their perennial great D? I don't really think any QB owns them. You take what they give you.

actually, i was going to say 'career' myself, because we're going to learn a lot about what we really have in joe next weekend, for better or worse...but if he does poorly, i want to wait til the rematch to see if he learned anything and applies that knowledge the second time around.
But yes, this season is going to make or break joe flacco.

I would argue that next season is the real litmus test; it'll be the second-to-last year on his contract, it'll be his second year with his newly-acquired weapons, and he'll have three solid years of experience under his belt. Though most QBs' careers are determined by what they do in their third season, that may only be half-true this season, as circumstances make this a slightly unusual third year compared to other QBs in their development. Most third-year QBs get to grow with their weapons, while Flacco is just now acquiring new weapons to go with the ones he's familiar with.

I give more credit to our o-line and to Boldin's route running then to Flacco. He was given time to throw the ball and Q made one great grab and was wide open for some of the other balls. Flacco still was staring down receivers and throwing some balls that should have been picks. I'm sure glad it was the Browns D we played against today. I'll give Flacc a B- only bc we won. Next week is the next test...step your game up Joe.

Well the first TD to Boldin was just gorgeous and I think it was all Flacco on that one. He put it right where only Boldin could get it.

It's a team sport; if the O-line isn't protecting and the receivers aren't running good routes, the QB has no time to throw and no one to throw to. Peyton Manning has had all the success in the world because he's had a great offensive line and capable receivers. Start poking holes in that line and get him moving around and you get games like the one he had against Houston.

If Flacco wasn't making plays with all of that protection and with these receivers, then there'd be cause for concern.

So when the o-line plays poor (like last week), Joe takes the blunt end of the critism. But when the O-Line does well, lets give the credit to the O-line. That just doesn't seem fair.

The O-line played good and gave Joe time. Joe made the best of the time given. It's a hand w/ hand relationship.

C for today's game against the browns

Some great throws some bad throws

Overall better pocket presence

Still not a great game despite boldin seeming to be open every time...
Okay, you should be on "ignore status" by everyone. Get out of here with this "C" crap!!

I have to agree, a solid B is the grade I would give. He looked really good, seemed poised, made 3 TDs and no INTs, but it was the Browns. The way we played tonight is what I was expecting with the Bengals last week. Tonight, from an actual SB contender I would have expected we dominate the entire game. Hopefully this is the turn around and they will continue to improve next week. If week 2s defense shows up and tonights offense shows up we should beat the Steelers.

Mike Preston's Ravens report card (8:19 p.m. EDT, September 26, 2010)

Quarterback: B+

Joe Flacco did a good job making his reads and being on the same page with his receivers. His passes had some velocity on them, and his best throws were high and tight. He missed on one long one to Anquan Boldin, but he delivered when he had to make plays. Flacco had a QB rating of 128.7.

What more does Flacco have to do to get an A?A QB rating of 128.7, 3 TDs, no turnovers...what more could he have done??
I agree. Flacco dominated a lesser defense, like a good QB should..

Yes, that was a terrific throw. That was what we refer to as chemistry; he knew Boldin could make the catch, even though it would require a high missile to be thrown. And that's exactly what he did. Perfect throw, and a great catch.

nowadays it seems your not going to be a popular QB unless you drop back and look to run around first. ie, vick, troy, vince, culpepper etc.

Flacco didn't dominate. How many three and outs did our offense have? How about that first pass that should have been a pick six? Cam did a better job with the scheme this week as far as using formations that give Joe more direction so to speak. Joe isn't ready to do the shotgun empty backfield thing like Peyton is known for. Joe is still to indecisive with that.

Though the team was 6-of-12 on third down conversions, the offense gained 19 first downs, 16 of them through the air.

The irony is, for a QB that played mostly from the shotgun for half his college career, Flacco has performed better under center than he has from the gun.

That's cause two of his biggest flaws that he's shown on this stage is 1. Holding on to the football to long and 2. Getting really panicky with signs of pressure

Running a spread or shotgun offense means the qb needs to make quick decisions but it also means a majority of the time you have less blockers so pressure will increase

The Browns game was an opportunity for Cameron, Flacco and Boldin to practice in a real game situation.
Hopefully the Browns game was a good warmup and helped the players get on the same page.
This was unlike the previous two games where Cameron literally threw Flacco to the Defense with no option but to throw against 2 very strong defenses.

The next game with the Steelers will be a good test for the Ravens offense as a whole, not just Flacco.

I do agree with theFrancise,
When a quarterback is drafted, most of the time they spend 1 or 2 years as a backup, learning the game.
Flacco did not have that opportunity.
So when they say the 3rd year is the test, most quarterbacks have 1 or 2 years experience learning the system and playing with the receivers.

Alot of quarterbacks fail in the league because they are tossed into the mix their first year and are not given the proper support by the coaches. This was not true with Flacco. Cameron did protect Flacco the first couple of years by calling plays with a lot of running and easy dump offs. This was essential for Flacco's development.

This year Flacco should show improvement as the year moves along. We should not expect a strong start this year, but we can expect a strong finish, and next year will be the real test for Flacco.

Flacco needs to be judged according to the phase of his development not against 10 year quarterbacks.
I give Flacco a B+. With the defense not playing as they have the previous 2 games, Joe did not lose the game for us but in fact he did win the game throwing the ball.

I agree Legend. That's why Joe has problems beating teams that are top ten defenses. That is what worries me most. Beating the teams we are supposed to beat, but not beating the teams on our own skill level. I just take a look back at last years results. That's why the game at Pitt will be big, not only bc of the rivalry, but bc I want to see Joe do well and beat a really good defense.

You know I must say that after sleeping on my initial grade I have to go up a letter grade..I think the shock of this game being so close mixed with some ugly series and that first pass...but you can look at this game and say this was one of Joes handful of games that he has actually won us and not just ride the defenses coat tails ...and that's something I wanted to see more of

I'll give Flacco a B+ for this game. He did make some good throws when he needed too. I knock him for the first throw which Eric barton should have returned for a pick 6 but didn't. he also held the ball and made back foot throws a few times.
