Flacco Took A Hit

35 posts in this topic

The hit that Joe Flacco took the 1st play of the game was unbelievable. I'm glad he was ok after that. Is it just me or did the whole O-line slip and fall on that play. Do you guy's think a warning to Joe to slow his role and not do to much?
I'm not Cam Cameron so I don't know whats up. What do you guy's think?

It was a designed play. The O line cut blocked the D line, providing quick security. Flacco was supposed to find an open receiver quick. They were all covered downfield, and he had no other choice but to take a sack.

*pats on head*

It'll be okay. The play was designed that way. Flacco was suppose to hit the quick route. His first look must've been covered really well and he took the hit. He should've try and thrown the ball away, or secured it better.

But in the heat of the game, it's hard to process it all.

It was a 3 step drop and it's Joe's job to get rid of the ball quickly. His first 2 receivers were covered so he should have just thrown it away but he tried to make something out of nothing.

Watching the game and being a Raven fan I thought the O-line could have held up for a couple more seconds. At-least we now know that our QB is a savage, getting rocked and ready for the next play.

Heap was open, and to make it worse, Flacco was staring in his direction nearly the entire play..

Yeah...on the road on Monday night football, first game of the year against an excellent D...I can def forgive Joe for that one. Overall, I think he did fine.

Agreed. I have no idea why Joe didn't throw it to Heap's outside shoulder but everything worked out in the end.

Way to start off a game. I was scared on that play. I though he was going to have a concussion. No more hits like that on Flacco please!

105.7 was saying that they knew someone in the stands. And after the first hit on Flacco (and fumble) a lot of the fans were screaming "We are going to the Superbowl, arghhhh!". Then when they started losing they were yelling "Arghhhh, we suck"

They said all of that but without the pirate tone.

It's one thing to hold the ball too long, but its quite another to not feel the pass rush coming. I am still trying to figure out which was worse" Flacco's "decapitation attempt" or Eli's "public beheading? :shrk:

Most QB's gain NFL respect in many ways and some don't gain respect but to follow through on every play is most certainly heading in the right direction.

I think Flacco gave his acceptance speech on that play now it is time to shine up the NFL...
"Acceptance speech"? Seriously...

It wasn't anything like Joe wanted to start calling plays in his third year like Rivers?
I love that they are letting him call plays now and audible it shows his growth as a QB and shows trust in their QB.

Yeah, I guess his inner clock was off a little bit. He should have known his time was running out, and he had to either throw it away or secure the ball and move. However, we did it to Tom Brady twice last season. In the regular season game, it resulted in a TD. So, not exactly unprecedented, it's just that Flacco took way too much time. Rough game, but Flacco showed some good stuff too.

While he lacked an Inner Clock on that first play, he made up for it on a play later on.

Remember the 3rd down play where Flacco was forced out of the pocket to the right. Two guys coming in fast behind him (no vision of them) he was able to get the ball out for a 1st down.

Yes! And the other play where he threw the ball as he was getting hit (pretty hard) for a completion to Houshmanzadeh I think. Overall I was impressed, and I remain optimistic about Flacco's future.

That was truly an amazing play. You could hear the crowd getting louder as the Jets player got closer to Joe. He got rid of it just in time and T.J. climbed the ladder to pull it in beautifully.

Exactly...he made a few mistakes, but all in all, Joe showed us an awful lot last night. I have my knit-picks, but only because I think he can and will be a great one, I dont want him to ever be content with just being pretty good.

Atleast we know we got one tuff QB.

That throw to Heap was one of the most perfectly executed plays of this year...

Yes he took a hit but he has to understand that its a quick pass and if nothing is there, get rid of the ball. He will learn from that hit

the smart thing to do on that play would have been to throw it at a receivers feet right into the ground. He just kept patting the ball, knowing full well that the blocking scheme of that play was only going to give him 2 second at the most to get off a throw.

At what point does it become intentional grounding?
If the receiver is close to the ball but it is not catch-able.

Really, Flacco didn't even see the guy coming on his right, and he got sandwiched.
I really hope he's alright.
That was an impressive play by the Jets.
