Tom Zbikowski Is Not A PR

His bad play is irrelevant. Starters shouldn't be returning, period. It's not as if he's clearly better than Parmelle or Reed or anyone else.
I drifted a little too much,” Zbikowski said. “I got a little not really caught up in the game. I drifted, I didn’t realize. I got to pay more attention to where I’m at on the field. I’ll correct it. It’s nothing that can’t be corrected.”
LINK

Obviously he felt he needed to take the game into his own hands, and I wouldn't disagree on that had it been on the 20 yard line but the 5 is just insane and we got lucky.

Bottom line is Zibby is a good football player. The great thing about our team is we have options at PR. Importantly we won the game and found out we can try out either Wilson or McCann the next game - so why fret and fume?
One bad play does not a Zibby make folks!!!!

Well it looked like he struggled after that play. It was a downhill spiral. I think he will bounce back next game, and play real well at PR. I hope the coaches don't give up on him yet

Zibby looked like a rookie out there, he almost cost us 2 points. McCann will be doing them next week.

That return might have been worse than Flacco's fumble.

I think Carr did ok last year, sure he called for fair catches when he should have ran,but hell whenever he did run it back for a decent return our ST would get some stupid penalty to bring it back.He was safe with the ball
The one horrible decision could have cost us that game last night.I won't hang Ziby out to dry,Live and learn.

Carr coughed up the ball on the opening kick-off against the Patriots (regular season). I think he might have fumbled against the Chargers (or someone) but it wasn't lost.

Yea. That's what sparked the coaches to tell him to fair catch everything. Because they couldn't risk him trying to make a return, getting hit and losing the ball.

At least Zibby has shown he can catch the ball with no problems. He just needs to make smarter decisions.

He's a great PR, just was trying to do too much, trying to be the hero. The coaches will tell him he needs to understand the situation and do what's best for the team.

I just would hate to see him get injured returning a punt. With Ed Reed still out Zibby is more important to our secondary. Surely we could find someone to fill the returner role.

he hasn't been a reliable PR period. I really wanna see what Mccann can do

He's returned punts for one game. You're speaking like he's done it for a while.

I see the coaches giving him more opportunities.

At least he tried to make something happen with his return, whereas we're so used to seeing fair catches.

No way am I saying that what Zibby did going backwards was ok, but he was just caught in the moment and thought he could win the foot race. It was the first game, and he'll get a lot more PR's this season, so get used to it.

Zbikowski is a good player and I'm not stressing that he made a bad play. Everyone does. Its just that Wilson/McCann are both faster and more explosive then him. They both have the speed to take it to the house while Zbikowski cant. I really think adding Wilson/McCann to PR will make us have one of the best special teams in the league.

Parmele did great as a punt returner last season, this preseason. Zbi stay as safety, and parmele is PR in cinnci, guaranteed
Parmele is strictly a kick returner. He didn't return a single punt last season.

I think it's funny that John Harbaugh made it a point only a few short weeks ago to say he believes special teams is for backups so you don't have to worry about losing starters but yet zibby is our returner. I think players like bryan mccann or josh wilson with playmaking talents should be gave a chance.

i think zibby is back there for nothing more than you needed a pair of sure hands to handle the punts. the game was going to be tight from the get go and the last thing that could happen was to have a young guy back there and muff a punt.
zibs hands on punts are good for securing the ball but i agree with him not being the speediest guy back there to try and reverse field on the 2 yard line.

Now that Zibby has made that mistake, he is not going to make it again. He deserves another chance. Though I don't mind if we choose someone else, he is our starting safety. That should be the reason we go in a different direction though, not because of his mistake on Monday.

On a punt return, if you catch the ball at the 5 yard line which is a no no to start and then attempt to loop back 5 yards from where you caught the ball to get a better lane to return the ball you better have blazing speed, agility and elusiveness. Like maybe a Dante Hall a few years back and Zibby does not have that. He can play safety and some other ST position but lets leave the punt returns for emergencies only, I have seen enough.
