Flacco Vs Ryan Debate

36 posts in this topic

After watching Ryan completely choke vs the Squeelers I am more anxious than ever for Flacco to step up with a big game on Monday night. People annointed Ryan the "next Tom Brady" his rookie season but his 2nd season was poor and so far his 3rd isn't much better.

Go get those Jets Joe and prove to everyone who the best QB from the 2008 draft is!

As you can see i do not have experience here but i just want to say something: Flacco has all the necessary to go for it and say "i told you", the first game Mark Sanchez seemed to have all the conditions to perform a good game and actually i acknowledge it he has done a good job, however i truly believe Ravens will win tomorrow after all the first game has been just that for us a first game i hope everything is gonna be ok and finally Ryan will remember all those years.........but from the other side....... :baltimore-ravens:

There won't be one after the tonight's game.
The burial will be held Thursday, Nov. 11th @ 8:20pm.

I'll bring the flowers.

Frankly Ive been tired of hearing that also, and Ryan is definitely in the same "group" as Flacco, but hes clearly not as good. I look for Flacco to totally run away from Ryan this year. At the same time tho, in reference to the game yesterday, Steelers have a healthy defense and healthy troy back and they played lights out. They smothered Ryan and made him look like a rookie most of the game.

Wow come on, who didn't know it was because Ryan plays in a weak division. It amazes me how they look at our division, and overlook our defenses. In all fairness though, Matt Ryan will have a harder time developing playing against the Falcons D in practice everyday.

thats a good point that i've never thought about. If flacco and our team was in that division, Flacco would already be Tom Brady.

Here comes the Ryan vs. Flacco game. Checks watch. Right on time.

Let's let these guys have their separate careers before we start this debate after one guy had a bad game against an elite defense.

I love Flacco. I like Ryan, both are good QBs. Both will be around the league for a long time.

Interesting how Ryan is getting heat for struggling against the Steelers defense when if I remember Joe struggles with the Steelers defense as well and Joe choked away the AFCCG in 2008 when he also threw an interception to Troy.... so Flacco and Ryan are even in that category.

As much as I hated how Falcons fans (and pretty much everyone else) would put Flacco down and talk up Ryan, I still think Ryan is more of a natural and Flacco has the better physical tools.

Of course nobody would be saying the same things if we had landed Ryan.

It was nice to actually see how Matt Ryan would fair against an AFC North Defense. I think Ray Lewis said it best when it comes to the Ryan vs Flacco debate. "For us to get him, and where we got him, that was probably the steal of the draft.(for QBs)" -The steal of 2008 draft was Ray Rice in my opinion.

We do the same thing here. Hence the endless Ryan/Flacco debate.

Before the draft I liked Matt Ryan. Would've been cool if he was a Raven. My name is Ryan, so a jersey would make perfect sense.

To say that Joe "choked away the AFCCG" is a little much. Remember that interception came AFTER a terrible special teams penalty that negated a great return. The interception was more a case of an all time great safety vs a rookie quarterback. Who do you think is going to win that one most of the time? Troy made a great play to win the game.

I said I'm basing it on Ryan and Joe's whole body of work not just Sunday's game. Ryan took a considerable step back last year desite him having better weapons on offense IMO.

Ryan doesn't suck he just doesn't hold up well under the blitz or when pressure of the game is in his hands. Flacco can remain the same under pressure Joe Cool? I think Flacco is a better franchise QB than Ryan in long term, but Ryan isn't terrible, and he was a good find for a team in desperate need of a good starting QB.

The debate is already over in my mind....

Flacco Year 2 with OK receivers (aka last year) beat Dixon with a (mostly) healthy Steelers D (granted, Polamalu was out).

Ryan Year 3 with Good (not great) receivers lost to Dixon with a healthy Steelers D (aka last night).

Flacco Year 3 with Great receivers (aka Q, Mase, TJ, Heap, Dickson, Rice, etc) will smash all over Dixon and the Steelers D even with Troy back there. This will be evident week 4 when they roll into our path of destruction, but I feel as if it's a foregone conclusion that Flacco is bomb and Ryan is a MOP. I mean, Ryan's ok and all, but he ain't no Flacco.

I wouldn't be so sure. While on paper it looks great. The bottom line is its still a divisional game and the Steelers D is top notch. I expect the Steelers game to be a hard fought match that comes down in the 4th. Should we win, you know it.

While I didn't mean to sound homer-ish, I just don't see Dixon outscoring us, no matter how good their D is. Polamalu can't cover everybody, and even if he takes away a chunk of our deep game I think we have enough talent to find holes in their defense over the middle and open up some running lanes for Rice. Even if we don't blow the Steelers out, I still see a score of something like 24-16 Ravens over Steelers being a likely outcome.

Usually I would agree. But Dixon did some nice things against us last year. And a great D can go a long way. I do think we'll win this game. But it will be very hard fought.

Yeah, perhaps we'll have a better idea of what to expect after the game tonight vs the Jets. Obviously no defense is the same as another but they're both pretty darn good so we should get a decent idea of how Joe will do in his progression. As for Flacco v. Ryan, I don't think there will be significant enough leverage to say one over the other until after this season. They will probably be compared the rest of their careers but I have a feeling this is the year Flacco truly outshines Ryan.

[/quote]this is true. Eli has a superbowl win on PHillip Rivers yet the two will always be compared and connected...even more so than Ryan and flacco.

I'm glad we got Flacco, he seems so cool under pressure and he can make every throw. He also throws one of the best deep balls.

Matt Ryan will probably do good as well....I'd say Flacco has the better career...he has until this point anyway.

Big Ben 2004. Flacco 2008. Although it seems like Flacco has been in the NFL longer. Maybe its all those playoff games.

He was drafted in the same year that Eli Manning and Philip Rivers were taken, if that's what you mean.

Timeout...lol.. As a Falcon fan i come in peace.... I had to respond to this tho... The media over react to Matt Ryan last week... Matt Ryan threw for 252 yards vs the Steelers.... 1 int... Vince young threw for 66 yards and got benched yesterday... chris johnson ran for 37 yards.... The Steelers Defense is legit.

After 2 games... Matt Ryan has threw for 477 yards (88.5 passer rating) , 3 TD's, and 1 int... I'm not even going to throw Flacco stats up because im not trying to bash the guy... I think Flacco is a talented QB.

Pittsburgh's defense may be legit, but Arizona's is not. I'm not going to defend Flacco at the moment, but I'm glad for you that Ryan has a passer rating nearly as good as Flacco's last season.
