San Fran Making Moves

24 posts in this topic

san fran should be if not already a playoff contender next year. They are a young team and i like the moves they have made so far in free agency. Specially resigning shaun hill and adding DE justin smith from the bengals. Plus they picked up deshaun foster to compliment gore. Thats a nice run combo. Look for them to make some noise on offense this year and be even stronger on the Defensive side.

Free agents picked up by the 49ers so far:

Shaun Hill--QB

J.T. O'Sullivan--QB

DeShaun Foster--RB

Isaac Bruce--WR

Allen Rossum--CB

Roderick Green--LB

Dontarrious Thomas--LB

Justin Smith--DE

Isaac Sopoaga--DT

there gonna be good next year

I disagree, Mike Martz is gonna get whichever poor soul at QB killed. Though I would like to see Shaun Hill succeed.

Mike Martz makes any qb under his system a star QB, proof is in the puddin. Look what he did with marshal faulk..Gore could be similar.

Warner was a star, his back up bulger is now a star and bulgers back did his thing when he had to step up not to mention bulgers back up's back up 3rd stringer came in and delivered. All of whom could start or at least be solid back ups for a handful of teams around the league

PLus issac bruce was signed so he alreadys know martz system.

And with shuan hill battling it out with smith things in san fran could get exciting this year dont sleep on the 49ers

they can sign all the people they want, but it all comes down to coaching and execution.

Agreed.

That's why the New England Patriots succeeded last season where the Washington Redskins had failed.

Even though the Redskins were not as active in the offseason after the 2006 season, their spend-happy ways in the past were all for naught.

That's partially why I'm reluctant to give a vote of confidence to the 49ers being contenders in their division next season.

However, the Rams' decline and the inconsistency of the Cardinals might be a boon in their favor.

Don't count out the Rams yet. They had about half the roster on IR. If you have to pick a bottom-5 team to make playoffs, I think Rams are the safest bet.

if the rams are healthy all year i can almost guarantee they make the playoffs. NFC is still pretty weak once you take out your big teams cowboys, saints? eagles? and ummm...rams will come back with a vengence next year. i expect good football being played by that team in 08

I'm definitely not sold on the 49ers.

Of all the FAs you mentioned, only two are decent contributors (allen rossum [at KR, not at CB] and Justin smith [for whom they grossly overpaid])

Foster and Bruce have 8 games left in them if they are lucky, Foster in particular.

i wouldnt be so quick in saying that Bruce has about 8 games left in him...anything can happen and in which MANY players (both past and present) have gone on to different teams and continued to have good...even Great success in the new system they were or are with.

its not like it takes a 12+ win season t omake it to the playoffs or even the superbowl. 8 games is really all they need. Its the NFC for crying out loud. And you dont need big name free agents or even great free agents to make good moves. i like the core group of players they are bringing in.

justin smith a lone is one of the best FA pickups so far. that guy in his own right is one of the best in the league. He may not be an all star but he is the kinda DE all coaches look for in a defense. foster doesnt need to have many games they have frank gore. foster will be their 3rd down back or just used in goaline situations or the 1 yard pick up downs. and mainly as the back that gives gore a breather.

bruce is awsome for the 49ers bcuz his experience in martz system and experience in all the intangibles it takes to be a wr can be passed alone to the rest of the wr corp. not to mention he is at the point in his career where he is a player/coach. teaching the other WR what martz is looking for is great for that teams passing attack. plus its not like he is a bum. hands good route runner.

They made a lot of moves last year and they are supposed to pick before us in this years draft. I dont like it at all. Good teams build through the draft. The fact that the 49ers should be picking 7th says that they have a lot of work to do and to me all these big free agent signings is nothing but patch work. You cant put a bandaid on a wound that requires stitches.

I agree. I would not bet against the Rams at all next year. They are probably the only team that matched us in injuries to key players.

Yeah but nolan is going into his 4th? (not sure) year as head coach and 49ers have been a disapointment thus far. Nolan has to keep his job and so do the rest of the staff and so far the rebuilding process hasnt gone anywhere for them. They have had high draft selections for the last umpteen years and still havent been able to build the team they were expected to have by now. Thats why i think FA is just as important as the DRaft. Mainly cuz you know what your getting. When you draft it normally takes a year or 2 for players to develop and nolan doesnt have a year or 2. i think its playoffs or bust for this coaching staff. i think they all realize that if they dont address core positions and bring guys in that have proven they can play nolan and his crew are gone.

I agree rebuilding a team starts in the draft but the free agency is just as valuable.

Last off-season many though the 49ers were going to be a playoff team, but that didn't happen. Their offense was horrible and the only bright spot to me was Patrick Willis and a few others. I also think Alex Smith needs to have a good season next year. But overall Nolan needs to get this team into the playoffs.

Well, that just proves that he's not a good coach. He screwed up early and now he has to live with it.

good coach bad system, if you think about it everyone crowned him, marvin lewis and rex ryan the greatest defensive coaches in the league at the time but whats the one thing that they all have in common>>

RAY LEWIS!!. players have come players have gone RAY HAS ALWAYS BEEN HERE FROM THE START.

The Main reason we need to look him up for the rest of his career with a 7 yr deal so he is forced to retire a raven. Then make him the D coach or the HEAD COACH or assistant just keep him here forever

Yeesh what does Mike Nolan have to do to get fired. They're supposed to have this incredible season, Alex Smith sucks and him and Manny Lawson are only real noticeable injuries. He trades away his first round pick for Joe Staley who may turn out good, but it looks bleak so far. The 16-32 record ain't so great either.

What does Mike Nolan being a sorry head coach have to do with Ray Lewis retiring a Raven?

What does Mike Nolan being a sorry head coach have to do with Ray Lewis retiring a Raven?

because the reaon for mike nolan being a head coach was because of the ravens Defense. And the reason the ravens Defense was so good was bcuz of ray lewis. And every coach for ray lewis has been offered a head coaching job(ryan will soon be HC down the road) and marvin lewis and mike nolan havent done anything with their teams. They received the jobs because they were such great coaches yet they both have crappy teams so what does that truely say about their coaching? all comes back to ray basically getting the job for them. which is why we need to lock this guy up. forever!!!!!!!!!

never disagreed with you, was jus making a case for why they dipped heavily in FA and why ray lewis should be a raven till he retires
