From a outside source....

This a tough one to call.
Jets positives are
very good offensive line-should be able to run the ball decent
very good defense all around-Ravens will have a tough time scoring points
Jets home opener-playing with a extra kick

Jets negatives are
QB can make mistakes-I see a few INT
Holmes not playing-their biggest deep threat
coach and his mouth-fuels the Ravens

Ravens positives are
looks good on paper passing game-we'll see how this goes Monday night
Ray Rice-makes plays when nothing is there
Joe Flacco-arm strength, can make all throws

Ravens negatives are
secondary is a mess-good thing Jets dont scare me vie pass
lead the league in penalties in 2009-can this be fixed?
score if the the Ravens can force turnovers they win 17-7 if not Jets 20-14

To me, the secondary isn't the mess various media outlets make it out to be. Of course, the absence of Ed and Foxworth hurt but I'm confident in all of the CBs and safeties that will suit up Monday night.

If it was anybody else than Sanchez the Ravens secondary would get tourched. Ravens corners are not good at all.

Oh really? Travis Fisher aside, they didn't look too bad to me this pre-season.

I won't argue with that because I'm very comfortable disagreeing with all of it.

One way our secondary will help us win this game is a Zibby or Nakamura S Blitz. I can almost guarantee we'll see it be effective multiple times.
I'm also very interested in seeing Wilson out there, he'll be fired up to impress his new teammates and coaches.
It seems likely that Webb won't play, but I wouldn't be shocked to see him be brought in for certain situations.
As long as our offense is on the same page, we'll beat the Jets in a similar manner as to how the Colts have beaten us.
(I know, that's a horrible comparison to a degree, and Flacco is not Manning, but it will remind us of that sort of match up, especially if we use 3 WR sets/the 11)
Revis might even be on Mason, not Boldin.
The Jets will probably try to take away the big play down field, while our offense will physically take over the middle with mismatches and power.
Honestly, I don't like Sanchez against our defense ever, especially in his sophomore year.
I'm thinking 20-13 Ravens!
It could be worse than that because our starting defense never gave up a touchdown all preseason.
Oh yeah, and all that Rex Ryan trash talk only helps the Ravens. Rex must have money on the game, and is betting against the Jets, why else would he questions Ray Lewis' ability to play?

From what I saw in preseason, which admittedly isn't always the best guide, the group looks better than last season when the Ravens finished 8th against the pass.

It's not the greatest unit but I'm not sure it would get torched by the likes of Trent Edwards and Josh Freeman. Sometimes it feels like some people make out like things are either great or terrible, no middle ground.

As for Monday, obvious as it sounds I think the Ravens win if they can dominate field position and I think they will. Say what you like about the possible lack of a deep threat but we are absolutely built to convert 3rd downs this year, we also have a great punter.

No. I wanna say yes, but the Jets run defense is pretty good and I only think got better since last year. They are probably going to expect Cameron and Flacco to go to the air more during this game but Flacco has SO MANY new targets that it might take a game or two to get the chemistry down. The Baltimore secondary is probably going to be the deciding factor in this game. All the sudden fantasy teams everywhere are going to have teams trying to trade for Sanchez left and right after this debocle HAHA. Revis possibly being a little rusty might help.

I should add I ABSOLUTELY want them to win, but I just see this game coming down to secondary defense and I'm pretty sure the Jets have that locked down a little more, that and I can't find the edit button.

Our secondary has been labeled "weak" since that Charger game last season. We got burned. We saw it, we fixed it. They went from 24th against the pass to 8th. Does no one recognize how well they had to play after that to make that jump? We continued to address the issue in the off season. There is no reason to think our secondary will be weak. Foxworth and Reed would have made it better, no doubt about that, but it does not make us "weak" because they are out.

You take a "wait and see" approach to our newly built offense yet pass instant judgment on our revamped secondary. Not to mention our pass rush. I think you are living in last season more than looking at the 2010 Ravens' team. Last year our secondary got burned in large part due to a lack of a pass rush. That is improved this season. Wilson is a good solid CB. Carr is good off the outside and capable. Webb will be suited up, could see some game time. Washington is solid on corner, as he has been when he's been called on to fill in, which has been often lately. Reed may be out, but he was out last season for awhile as well. Landry/Zibby filled in well. Everyone hates on our secondary because right now we do not have that "shut down corner". What we have is a close knit complete group. A shut down corner only takes one man out of play. A complete group, keeps all the receivers in check.

BTW our touted "weak" secondary last season finished 8th against the pass. Pretty good for a "weak" secondary.

Ravens will win this game. Jets had the #1 rushing offense in YPG, yes, but they ran more than any other team in the league. Ravens averaged more yards per carry and had more rushing TDs. Two good rushing defenses means it comes to QB play. Flacco is better than Sanchez. Sanchez will have to beat us with his arm. I do not see that happening.

To RavensDfan
Very insightful and intelligent response.
Although, I find it hard to believe that either team will allow a rookie quarterback to throw that much against secondary's like the Jets and Ravens have. (I believe you are right, that our secondary is not that bad, pretty good infact)and I also believe that Sanchez is not that good. His accuracy and decision making needs improvement and against our secondary it could be a good day for the Ravens secondary especially if Rex is arrogant enough to allow Sanchez to throw the ball downfield and across the middle, but if he is smart he will use quick dump offs and run the ball. Alot, like the Ravens did last year. I see this game being low score, defensive game with run and short dumps offs for both teams. That is not to say that Flacco won't try and throw deep, but I believe our team has better coaching and will not endanger our chances by throwing the ball. Although, like you say, it may come down to who can complete their passes most effectively (as few throws as there may be)and who has the fewer turnovers.

I'm growing tired of all the bad press our secondary is receiving! Is Walker still here, no! Did we not trade for a proven CB to replace Fox, yes, Wilson! Did we make any additional changes during camp, yes, we trained Nakamura as a nickle and the kid played lights out all preseason! Are our injured not returning, yes!

I just don't see the weakness! All in all, we took a 8th ranked defensive backfield and improved it. But, there are still those, who can't see that we don't need a overblown, high priced, shutdown corner to make us effective. They may not be the best in rankings but, they want to win, I'll stand by them just for that reason!

I'm gonna go with, not at all. Wasn't the Chargers game week 2 or 3 or something? I didn't look. They were 54 yards worse per game then the number one team and 51 yards per game allowed in front of the 2nd to worst team. 207-208 yards per game was kind of the standard last year give or take 10-15 yards.

For those that watched every game, I thought some of the games the CBs might as well have been sitting in the stands eating nachos and then they had games that REALLY mattered against like the Browns, then the Browns, then the Lions, the Lions were just OUTSTANDING, then the Bears, where they somehow managed to hold those teams to like 12 yards per game passing. They were mediocre at best IMO. Then the Vikings came along and they gave up 300 yards, but Brady Quinn was just around the corner again and they gave up less then 100 yards in that game.

I think it's gonna come down to how many times "Offsides, #74 Offense, 5 yard penalty" is heard and how many times Ray Lewis just POPS someone after the whistle blows.

I SERIOUSLY think it will come down to the Ravens CBs. And where did the "edit post" button go? This site appears to have a mobile version now.

If we had Ed Reed healthy i would say YES 100% for sure.. But i will say i actually don't have an answer for this.. I don't want to say YES just because i am a RAVENS fan when i know deep down inside we might not. But i do believe if we start HITTING Sanchez early and bring him TONS of preassure constantly to the point he does not have enough time to find receivers we will have a GREAT day against them. If we do not get to Sanchez quick in EVERY snap he will shred us apart with our banged up secondary.... and the new guys back there.

Your "newly built offense" is with Boldin and TJ who have not played a meaningful down yet but it's the same defensive backfield plus one additions and it's a
"Revamped Secondary" are you serious?

Okay, I'll hold judgement till after the second game to give a opinion on the new Raven revamped secondary. Just like my team the Colts and their revamped run defense, I'll wait till after the Giant game I guess.

I guarantee you wont hear #74 called for offsides. Not even once! And I must say, most of your posts are hilarious. I really hope other teams fans don't read them. They may think you are the norm around here.
