Ravens to Honor 2000 Super Bowl-Winning Squad

19 posts in this topic

The Baltimore Ravens will commemorate the 10th-year anniversary of their lone Super Bowl victory on October 24th, when the Ravens host the Buffalo Bills. A private reception will be held the night prior to the game, reuniting former members of the championship squad before they take part in gameday festivities.

The first player to respond to the invitation? All-time Ravens rushing leader Jamal Lewis.

Always worth celebrating something like this on a night where you will crush the opposition. I'm sure when the Bills fans find out about it, they will think its unfair (just like us and when the Steelers did their ceremony).

Good honor. But 10 years is too long without another Superbowl. Let's start this decade off strong too.

Good find. This is the kind of thing I'd wish the Ravens would make more prominent news by sending something out to PSL holders, or at least announcing it on their site.

And hooray, Jamal! I'm assuming Marvin Lewis won't be making the trip since he has a game that day. Shannon Sharpe? Jermaine Lewis? GOOOOOSE? Would be nice to announce all those guys as the "starting lineup" that day... with Ray Lewis still coming out at the end to do the dance and tie that Super Bowl team and THIS Super Bowl team together. Ahhh, I love it!

I'm glad they picked a day game to do it at. I don't mind celebrating against the Steelers at all, but I think doing it on a Sunday Night game would actually take away from the celebration of the Super Bowl team and focus more on Ravens vs. Steelers and Roethlisberger "return" since he will miss the first game between the teams.

That actually sounds like a really good idea with the starting lineup. Awesome that Jamal responded so fast, I always had love for that dude..one guy you knew would bring it every sunday and do whatever it took to win.

Shows that the guy's heart has always been in Baltimore, even when he was playing for the Browns. I'd love for the team to bring him in as an offseason consultant, just to coach up the younger running backs trying to make the squad in mini-camp and training camp. I really don't know if he'd make a good coach, but I'm sure he's got some advice to dispense.

Oh Wow this sounds awesome. My friend said that he may be able to get tickets for a game and now seeing what's going on I know it's the Bills but hopefully it is this game, I told him I would come up from NC for the game but this is very worthy of going up to see.

Glad Jamal accepted, hopefully Gusa, Jermaine, Sharpe, JO and other notable players accept, this is going to be awesome. You guys think Billick will be there along with Trent Dilfer?

Billick never had anything against Trent, and although Trent on numerous times has stated he felt it was the wrong choice and a bad move to let him go I believe Trent has put that to rest now. It was also not only Billick that made that move.

Id do it lol. Jamal always worked his butt off and never complained about a thing, even how Billick ran him into the ground because he had no other option Jamal just carried it all, he was a workhorse.

Trent Dilfer and Brian Billick have patched things up and are on speaking terms again. This was around the time when NFL Network called them up to do the America's Game documentary in 2007, shortly before the Ravens traveled to San Francisco to play the 49ers and Dilfer was under center. I believe it was Billick who initiated contact and Dilfer reciprocated. Dilfer was reluctant to reveal details, but from what I remember, Billick admitted that he made a mistake in letting him go and that was all the apology Dilfer needed.

I'm still angry at Billick for the 2003 season. Jamal could have EASILY broken Erick Dickerson's single season rushing record. Billick pulled Jamal at halftime of Week 16, and didn't play him at all in Week 17.

I know Jamal still probably has a bitter taste in his mouth from that. I sure do. Just think what Jamal could have done if we had any sort of a threat in the passing game during even ONE of his years here.

After 2003, Jamal was done, though. He never ran the same. If Billick would've run him more, he wouldn't have last to 2006 in Baltimore - he shouldn't have been here that long, anyways.

Wow that would be great if they could get most of the team back together on that one night, That would make that game a "no miss" one.

GO RAVENS!
