Ravens Getting Way Too Much Hype

Dont get me wrong, Im rooting as hard as anyone for them to win it all. What i don't like seeing is how much hype we're getting in the media. I always liked playing the underdog card and flying under the radar, which is usually how you are looked at when you have a stellar defense and a sub-par offense these days. Now that we possess an elite-looking offense and a still stout defense there is way too much hype surrounding a team with a lot of new moving parts.

Now we are required to win the division and at the very least make it to the conference finals. One and done in the playoffs isnt gonna cut it with all the expectations. Here's hoping Flacco and the boys live up to what everyone's expecting.

My dad heard on the radio that Sports Illustrated picks the Squealers to go to the Super Bowl and the Ravens to finish 9-7... I'd say most pundits are taking a wait-and-see approach with us.

I think many ravens fans like playing the underdog since we have for most of our existence. Feels alot different to be in the limelight. Hope the guys can back it up.

Our team this year will be counting on Flacco and the offense to make it happen. We might not have a secondary for half of the season, but we rarely had one last year for the first half and we did just fine.

everyone is on a different teams bandwagon at this point. If you throw out the colts and saints...ESPN seems to be high on the Ravens, while nfl.com likes to give love to the packers. That prediction machine website gives the Jets the edge in just about every statistical category.

Come with this half way through the season. By then, you will see just how well our offense is playing as our defense remains stout awaiting the return of a few players as we finish the season strong. (The criticism on us would be in the mental area because we are not lacking in personnel.)

werd. You know what the deal is. We Baltimorons just love to hate. If you ignore us we're mad, if you love us we want you to leave us alone. lol. Seriously though I always like to be under the radar no matter how good or bad we are.
Its not just bc Im a homer, but i truly believe that our secondary is going to be a LOT better than everyone is anticipating. Wilson is a solid corner and I think Washington and Webb will be 100% before you know it. I will not be surprised to see 12+ wins and top 5 in offense AND defense.

yeah, now its as if nothing that we do will shock anyone. Its all to be expected. I tell ya what though. The Ravens hardest task will be beating the colts in the playoffs if we end up playing them. I just cant even remember the last time we didnt beat ourselves in a game against them...

This whole "I like flying under the radar" crap isn't me. Talk about us baby! I love turning on the radio or tv and hearing "ravens this....", "ravens that....". Bring it, I love it!!!

I like being the underdog also, we usually seem to perform much better. I do think tho, that there are alot of mixed reviews on the ravens, i've heard both ends of the spectrum. From third in the division and barely making to the playoffs, to winning the division as well as the superbowl. Although i'd rather fly under the radar.... what team doesnt know what we're about? lol Most do, and wont be taking us lightly anyway.

I also like it when the Ravens are underdogs, I think historically they have performed better when they have been counted out. It seems like whenever they are expected to make some noise and do good things they drop the ball.

Personally, I'm tired hearing about people preferring us to be the "underdog". When haven't we been the underdog for the most part? People were high on us at the start of last year, then it fizzled after we struggled after the strong start. Every year the Steelers are the posterboys for the AFC North, every year the Colts, Pats, or Steelers are the posterboys of the AFC. In my opinion, it's about time the Ravens get some face time in this division and this conference. I just hope the Ravens back it up, and don't squander this opportunity.

But for those of us who wish for us to remain underdogs, how can you honestly see that happening? After trading for Boldin, signing Bulger and Stallworth, picking up, Kindle, Cody, Pitta, and Dickson in the draft, and, most recently, picking up Housh? Add in the progress our players made over the offseason, and you have a team that would have to work hard to not be in the spotlight.

I agree with you here. This kind of hype can cause your opponent to bring a 'gun to a fist-fight'... NOT good at all... I know it effects this Steeler team. The good thing is were so far off the radar this year its like were not listed as one of the 32 teams...

i'm glad the talking heads are picking against us, i really don't like when the ravens are the it pick. i like the feeling you get, in those situations when everyone picks against us and we go into foxborough and dust the patroits like last season.

We can still shock the world. They like our high powered offense right now but still take hits on our secondary and O line. Let's shock the world with another record setting defense.

Blaming it all on Ozzie, people. He stole so much talents that the media have to condemn him and the Ravens for being a theft of fame, jealousy, love, and most importantly the obvious target for Lombardi Trophy possession.

Nonetheless, even with myself as a fan who always want the Ravens to stay under the radar can't even resist not to embrace the hype :ICONATOR_01040da29c18a4eed76047

Attention or not, the Ravens know what they gotta do and that is to take care of business. After years of wishing, hoping and wanting, this off season we finally got the offensive weapons that we have needed for a long time now. The Ravens won't take this season for granted.

Some news agencies simply don't talk much about us at all. However, how do you expect us to fly under the radar when we made moves to get Boldin and Housh? Impossible. It's gonna happen. Are we favorites? Yes for some not all.

However,it's still the same ol' news coverage:

The Cowboys
The Colts
The Saints
The Patriots
Bret Favre
Darelle Revis
Haynesworth(less?)
McNabb
Batman and Robin

Now if you're superstitious, better go grab that rabbits foot, throw salt over the back or whatever you do to feel that whatever you are doing will help the Ravens win.

The problem with hype is people start to believe it after a while.
Believing is part of faith. Some of us have faith in what our FO and players bring each and every week.

As long as the players don't believe the hype surrounding them, I don't see anything wrong with fans believing in hype.
