Ravens Game Premonition?

75 posts in this topic
Well I'm not sure about that-consider the 2000 Ravens-they had an anemic offense and just had Dilfer making minimal mistakes-we went to and won the superbowl on the back of our defense. I think the jets will use much them same philosophy this year and therefore be a force to be reckoned with. I am standing by my low scoring prediction!
I dont know if you've ever watched a game in 2000 but defenses and secondaries especially had alot more leeway with what they were able to do with their hands. Illegal contact was non existant, hits to the head non existant, hit on a defenseless receiver non existant, protecting the QB non existant. The 2000 Ravens would still have the best defense in the league if they played today, but they wouldnt set any records like they did, and they for damn sure would be the most penalized. Lewis almost killed McNair in that divisional round on a blitz. The league is too different now to even attempt to say "we won in 2000 with a bad offense". Its not even an accurate statement in todays league.

I had the same exact dream!

Except in mine, there was a purple octopus with an elephant head floating above the field controlling all the players with his 22 tentacles. Do you think this is a premonition as well?

Sorry OP you violated my Cardinal rule which I posted in the "posting limit for new threads" thread. Not that it really matters to anything important. But do you really need to post your dream in a new thread?
The new threads that drive me crazy are:

"I had a dream last night......"
and
"I just had a thought......"

This can fit 100% into another thread.

Here comes Mr. Negative-Remember the Jets probably have the best over all defense in the AFC-even with Revis rusty he is still pretty darn good-I didn't see much magic between flacco and bouldin in preseason and now that we have no deep threat that will play right into the jets strengths. I think your dreams is unfortunately closer to reality and I have to predict a jets defensive domination-17 to 6 Jets. Sorry everyone-I LOVE THE RAVENS!
First, you don't love the Ravens, you love hating on the Ravens. Second, there is no way the Jets hold us to 6 points and sure as hell no way they score 17..maybe if Sanchez has all day to throw the ball. Rex is going to want to run it down our throats if he can.

Preseason is nothing, Flacco and Boldin have been working together ever since he got traded however many months ago. I'm sure they held back a lot of their offense for the real season.

The Jets are the Ravens of a few years ago if you think about it. Top defense in the league with a solid running game and no passing attack. We could win some games but never against the elite teams, if the defense didn't score it felt like we couldn't do nothing but put up field goals.

The Ravens have a good defense and now a explosive offense. The Jets are going to find this out come Monday Night.

The best part is, the Ravens could still find a way to win, even if that possibility came true. John Harbaugh knows how to rally his guys under times of adversity. We've seen that as the case more often than not.
How true, Franchise, adversity is where a man shows his mightiest facet, and this premonition may be only a warning. I am willing to take the gambit and say we should be ready for what could happen this Monday night.

This years Jets defense is not even comparable to that Ravens 2000 defense. That defense set records, this Jets defense probably wont even be #1, they are really over hyped because they have Revis.

I don't think the Jets D is overhyped. I do believe their team as a whole is hyped. We'll have to let them play the season before we can say what they are or aren't. They could come out and set records this year. It's not out of the question.

I don't know, they talk themselves up, especially Rex and people just go with it. They lost their best pass rusher to injury when Pace went down. Revis most likely won't match the season he had last year. They aren't some unstoppable force.

I hope everyone stays grounded-no matter what every game this season will be a dogfight! Barring any more injuries my prediction remains unchanged 9 and 7 with no playoff scenarios. There are some interesting match-ups that can go either way ie atlanta, houston and New England. If we can find a way to win these games and beat New Orleans we got a shot. The bottom line is we have to beat the Steelers and beat them twice to get to the playoffs! Are we that good? Now that's a dream come true!

I see us beating teams like Atlanta, Houston and New England.

The Steelers, we'll probably split the series with them again.

Every year we drop a game we should have won or win a few games no one thought we could. Last year when Minnesota was undefeated and the hottest team in the league we went in there and came back from a few TDs down and could have won if not for a missed FG.
Let me elaborate...

Atlanta - defense has issues same a ours I suppose, their offense took a step back last year and they really didnt make any changes, they're just hoping matt ryan can come back from a down year. I have to give the Ravens an edge, more experience, etc

Houston - we beat them recently, last year or the year before, that was without the offensive firepower we have now...their offense is good as well but i give the edge to our defense and to the ravens because we have been in high pressure sitations and we can win big games on the road (if this game is on the road havent looked at schedule in a while)

New Englad - defense is soft, top corner is out, run stoppers are gone, the offense should be better if wes welker can stay healthy, moss doesnt sound too happy there, and are we forgetting what the ravens did to them in the playoffs?

I like Flacco and our O against their D better then Sanchez etc. against ours.

They've still been bend but not break and they can give up all the grabage yards they want as long as they keep them out of the endzone.

Jets to be grounded by the FAA (Flacco Air Attack)

I dont even know where you come from sometimes, your consistently pessimistic about everything this team does. How did you even pick those 3 teams of all the teams we play as the make or break for a playoff push. So if we have anymore injuries, are we going 5-11? I wouldnt call myself an eternal optimist, I try to be objective, but you dont seem to think we can beat any good teams man? Whats up with that.

To say we are going to flat our beat these teams is a stretch. I think all three of these games are close to toss ups. First off, all three of these games are on the road. Sure we play good on the road at times, but that's still a fact. Two of the places are domes. On paper it looks like we have an edge, but we have to play these games. Football is a funny game.

Atlanta even though they're offense stepped back last year, they are ready to bounce back this year. M Turner is in incredible shape and is treating this season much differently than last. Plus Roddy White could break out to be one of the best WRs in football. The Falcons plan on opening up the playbook.

Houston is explosive and their defense should be much improved. And when we beat them it was 2008, and they were without their QB Matt Shaub, so that nugget is important if you are going to bring up that game.

And New England is New England. Tom Brady is two years removed from his knee injury, they can win any game. Their cornerbacks are shaky. But their intangibles are good.

I already consider him to be in the top 10 best WRs in the game but I everything else you said can't be argued with.

As excited as we Ravens are about this year, the schedule looks pretty tough on paper.

It's cool that the Jets have defense. But, doesn't it take offense to win games in a league that's geared more and more towards offense? The Ravens offense may have question marks in the eyes of some fans, but shouldn't people be questioning Mark Sanchez and his 20 interceptions in 2009? Especially against a defense that is all about keeping teams out of the endzone even if they happen to give up some yards?
and the simple fact that sanchise only threw for two hundred yards once an a whopping eleven game span and that came in his first game, sounds kyle bollerish to me.

I agree. But I think to casual fans, many people sleep on Roddy White. I actually think he is a top three guy right now, just needs the team around him. The talents there. But I was leaning more to saying that he could be that guy - stat wise.

Yep, he's definitely underrated among casual fans. Fabian and Co. are going to have their hands full with him.

These teams are no pushovers I know that, and I also agree that football is a funny game and you can't predict what games you can win or lose, especially when facing quality opposition.

I'm just saying what I think this team can do, imo the Ravens are better than those teams. Oh and New England...their CB are shaky, yes, also they're D-line isnt what it once was...they can be run on and passed on. They need to score a lot of points to win this year.

I agree I think this team can do it. I pretty much think that every year. But I have to see this team play first. This team could technically go 16-0 if the stars align. But even if injuries occur I don't think they could get much worse than 7-9. I expect to see some outcome in that window.

Can't wait for this season thingy to start! Need to start talking games rather than hypothetical situations.

9-7? 7-9? Really? Actual unbiased football fans believe this? I will be shocked if we do less than 10-6. Shocked!

I said 7-9 worst case scenario if we get hit with the injury bug. We have enough depth to manage the storm. But it could always happen. A few injuries and a few losses in close games, it's possible. Once again football is a funny game.

I never thought we would go 5-11 a few years back.

Anyone remember this game? LINK
Yeah I know both teams have gone through some roster changes since then, but I also remember our first team dominating their first team. Everyone calm down.

I have to agree with papasmurf-we can't stand one more major injury except maybe at tight end. We are teetering on the edge and our schedule is brutal. My fingers are crossed and my eyes closed-HOLD ON!

I admire your positive attitude-you have us as having the edge over everyone-I'm saying the league has almost total parody right now and every game will be a toss up. We will not be a dominating team-we will need a lot of luck on both sides of the ball to have a winning season and get to the playoffs.
