Troy Smith Finds Employment

I'm glad for him. This is one of several teams where he could see signifigant playing time due to their uneasy QB situation. He could also be the #2 QB and be used in the wildcat.

Picked up by the 49ers

Troy Smith that is (wouldn't let me edit)
He might not even make it there. He might be the #4 on that team now. Moving backwards. Alex Smith, then David Carr, then Nate Davis (which I've heard they liked) then Troy Smith perhaps? Maybe David Carr goes because he has no upside?

SF may be one team he has a chance to stick on. It's not like they have a wealth of talent at QB... :)

Feel bad for the San Fran message board.

Can see the never ending arguments now.....but Troy Smith won a heisman!

Good luck to Troy Smith.

That said, I think Alex Smith is vastly improved from his first two seasons, when he was thrown into the fire with poor coaching and a fairly-poor supporting cast. His time on the bench served him well and I think he could start to live up to his potential, although he'll never display the abilities of a guy deserving of the 1st overall selection of the 2005 NFL Draft.

I agree I think Alex Smith should leap forward this season. He should. He's got the weapons just like Flacco. Big O-Line, Crabtree and Vernon Davis, A defense to get him the ball and a running game that's damn good.

If Alex Smith doesn't produce, they might give up on him real quick. But I think he does play well.

In all fairness to Mike Nolan during his time as head coach in San Francisco, the front office didn't give Nolan much to work with, and the few moves they made, they missed on at the time. Giving Nate Clements such a ridiculously large deal when his play didn't match his pay was horrible, and Manny Lawson getting injured was a major setback when the team didn't have a defensive stalwart like Patrick Willis yet.

With Seattle's problems (replacing Housh with Mike Williams, just for starters), Arizona fielding Derek Anderson as their new starter :34853_doh: and the Rams, well, playing like the Rams...

If SF doesn't win the division, or at least mount an improved Offensive attack, Alex may pay. I think Singeltary will get more patience, but if Smith fades this year... Nate Davis may get a real chance to start.

THANK YOU MIKE SINGLETARY!

That's a VERY good chance for him to start. Alex Smith... watch your back! TROY SMITH TO CRABTREE! Can't wait! Ravens vs. 49ers in Super Bowl? HAHAHAHA, this board would have a freaking cow if that happened.

There's a problem with that, how is Nate going to start for the 49ers when he was released so they could bring in Troy Smith.
Multiple reports in the Bay Area indicated that the 49ers let go of former Ball State quarterback Nate Davis on Monday evening. The 49ers have since confirmed the move and then announced the signing of former Ravens backup Troy Smith.
OT but I can see the 49ers going for a QB next April.. and I don't know where they would pick but I think Singletary will find his guy at QB next season and I'm hoping it's Ryan Mallet. I wish Troy the best in San Fran!

I don't know. They beefed up their O-Line with some big dudes. He might not be able to see Crabtree down the field. He'd do better if he went somewhere with a smaller makeshift O-Line.

I thought they liked Nate. I would've thought that Carr would've gone.

Well they are trading one 5th round pick for another 5th round pick that has a Heisman. I guess I see the upgrade.

I think Troy could push Carr for the number 2 position because let's face it, Carr is a turd burglar and the definition of a bust.

I'm Happy Troy went to one of the teams I like to cheer for.

Yeah Troy just went to the team I predict will make a huge playoff run and be in the NFC Championship Game but lose. So at least Troy can say he will have been on a playoff team again.

I'm getting deja vu! Haha, in all honestly I hope hey utilize him. He's a good QB, just not exactly built for the NFL.

Oh, wow, the 49ers picked up a 3rd string QB.

As much as I like Troy, he is not and never will be a starter in the NFL. The irrational belief some people have in him borders on irritating.

Troy was one of my favourite Ravens, but I agree with the above, he's destined to be a backup. I wish him the best of luck, and I really do hope he proves himself and makes it as a starter.

I thought the 49ers liked Nate Davis better, evidently not. He hadn't shown me much in pre-season and hasn't played during the reg season. I guess they think troy is better suited due to his experience, even in the limited amount he's had.

Could I ask you why he was one of your favorite Ravens? Seriously? I do not understand all the love for this guy.
