Dixon Named Starter For Steelers

31 posts in this topic

The Pittsburgh Steelers have announced that Dennis Dixon will be the starting quarterback for Sunday's season opener vs Falcons. ccording to the news alert text from ESPN.
I for one think this is the right choice,he adds some surprise element with his speed. Now I wonder will he be the starter week 4?

Well, hopefully they trim the game plan down for him and let him do what he's capable of. He'll make plays with his feet.

Still would have preferred Batch, but....it is what it is.

I don't know Warden I think they figure Dixon is part of the future plans more,so I guess they want to show there backing support for him.

On a side note ben wasn't named as a Captain by his teammates.

That shouldn't surprise anyone. Nor does he deserve the title back yet.

I'm not upset about Dixon, I just hope he makes the most of it and wins us some games. 2-2 would be acceptable (nothing less); 3-1 would be very nice and 4-0 would be simply awesome.

I think I'd take that considering our issues. But don't tell anyone I said that. lol

I've said it all along. IF Dixon learned (and he is a smart guy) from those 2 passing fiasco's (interceptions) that occurred in pre-season, he's gonna be to much to handle because every thing else he does is pretty good. IF he has compensated for his mistakes... its on

I did not enjoy him playing against us last year. Teams with weaker defenses are going to have one helluva hard time trying to shut him down.

In Dixon's defense, I read that Antonio Brown ran the wrong pattern, and that caused the pick-6...

Dixon is without doubt the right choice to be the starter, and for that reason, I do not like the decision.

Respectably noted. Lol

Dixon will make plays with his feet against us and others like he did last year, although personally I would have went with batch's experience. He's filled in admirably in the past when Ben was out. I think this is more of a preparing for the future for Dennis.

Well it will be interesting... though I don't know why but I can see 1-3 or 2-2 for the Steelers by the time Ben comes back. I mean 2-2 if they can beat Atlanta and Tampa and their 2 losses come from Tampa and Baltimore, but 1-3 if they lose to Atlanta, Tennessee and Baltimore. This will be a very interesting year for the Steelers.

God help them now!!! lol j/k they should be ok, they shouldn't be worse than 2-2 as long as Dixon just manages the game and Mendenhall doesnt catch a case of fumbilitis again.

he looked far better than I expected him to last year. We barely squeeked that one out as I recall.

I'm just jabbing at you man. Dixon took us to overtime last year, so you are correct. You never know.

You know what? I should have been the first post and did what Marc2K did in the Housh thread:

"Championship."

Dixon looked good, actually ok, against the Ravens because we didn't exactly know what to expect from him.
Besides, the Steelers were a better team last year.
Like thewarden86 said, "You know you can't predict what will happen between these two teams" I agree, but I'm not worried about Dixon in the least.
I hope Dixon does run against us and I can't wait to see who he runs into.
Good luck with Dixon, and my advice is just hope he doesn't turn out to be the Steelers Troy Smith.

Tomlin states Ben isn't guaranteed to get his job back after the Suspension. So if Dixon gets the Steelers off to I wanna say 3-1 or 4-0 Ben stays on the bench?

I doubt it. Tomlin knows who got him that shiny ring.

Tomlin is just postering, I think to some extent he and most of the team have the same sentiments as the general public of Ben being a bad person. Ben has obviously lost some credibility in the locker room as evidenced by him not being named a captain. Deep down Tomlin knows ben gives him the best chance to win.

i think batch gives pittsburg the best chance to win in all honesty dixon has good potential tho ... i dont think its gonna matter tho ... pittsburgh is always gonna be pittsburgh they're dangerous on any occasion(with exception to cleveland last year ) especially when everything is against them plus aaron smith is back troy is back everyboyd else seems to be healthy mike wallace is a beast and hiney is still there is has been a headache for over 10 years ... gotta respect it even tho i do intensely dislike them -__-

He made some pretty throws. Even the two completions in the Panther game before he got hurt. Plus that bomb he threw against the Giants, I think Ben underthrows that one. Lefty nailed it. Only concern would be SLOWzell Adams protecting him.

I think Dixon provides what the Steelers need. Only time will tell how well he performs. I think the Steelers can win all four games but one of them will be a very tough one. I looked at the new Steelers site and it's looks better albeit a bit distracting with that stadium pic. Poor choice imo.

At any rate what it comes down to (what it always comes down to) is who loses to the Browns and who loses twice to the same team in our division. Honestly it could be a close race with the Browns being the team plan spoiler. I think the Brown can (note I said can) be better.
