Mark Clayton Appreciation Thread

Despite all the criticism he has received, Mark has always been a classy guy who showed humility

He will be missed by many, and we hope that you can resurrect your career with Sam Bradford and the Rams

I miss him already. :(

Highlights (from the yearbook):

His nine 100 yard receiving yard games are most in Ravens history

His 234 catches and 3,116 yard both rank third in Ravens franchise history

Has been a part of 15 tds during his career. (Twelve via reception, 2 rushing, and one passing)

Is the only non-qb to have thrown a passing touchdown for the Baltimore Ravens (to Derrick Mason on 11/30/08 @ Cincy)

Owns Ravens rookie franchise record with 44 receptions for 471 yards and two touchdowns.

So long, my favorite whipping boy. It is sad, I finally got what I wanted for a couple years (seeing Mark playing in the slot) then he gets traded before I get to see what comes out of it. Best of luck to you, hope the change of scenery does wonders for you.

I think you mean for a touchdown. Ray Rice threw an incomplete pass [edit]LAST year and I'm sure there have been others.

Much respect Clayton, you tried your best, didnt complain about how many different QBs were throwing passes to you from Boller to McNair, and then Flacco. Good luck in STL man.

You know, we shouldn'tve gotten rid of him for such low draft picks. He was a decent player, and also younger than Housh. I'm not saying he's better than Housh, but Housh is in the same slot that Clayton would've been, and in a couple of years, we'll be having another reciever position problem when Mason and Housh are retired, IF we don't get someone in the draft or someone in the trades that would complement Boldin. Maybe we cleared Clayton so we could possibly trade for Jackson?

Gotta agree seemed like a real nice guy. And the only time he's had a truly experienced QB throwing it to him he was our best receiver (or atleast most productive). And I think the general consensus on the board is that he could well have ripped it up in the slot.

I just thought of something that was ironic in a way: When our franchise first started up, we had someone named Jackson in Michael Jackson (no, not the dancing fool lol), and if hopes are realized, we may have Vincent Jackson. BUT lets not get ahead of ourselves, because there's only a 10% shot at landing VJ.

Is there a button on here that gives you a plus 10,000 lol?? Because that statement is my thinking.

I'll refrain from saying that 'we will not get VJ' the way I did with TJ... Awwwwwh fudge it. WE WILL NOT GET VJ.

Also, for posterity, that is not what irony is.

Are you serious?

Mark hasn't done enough in his career to warrant much more than 6th round pick. And Housh is limited to playing in the slot. Like I've said before, T.J. can obviously line up outside the hashes meaning Q or Mason will move inside on 3-WR sets.

As for the WR position on this team in a few years, there's the draft and FA. Your comment makes it seem the FO is done upgrading the position for thenext few years.

Finally, V-Jax isn't coming here.

I was excited to see what Clayton could do as the #3 WR. He obviously wasn't the stud #1 we all hoped he'd be, but like many, I'll miss him as well, hopefully he can be a solid WR in St. Louis with the up and coming Sam Bradford.

Mark was a great guy, people talk about 'being a true professional', you don't have to look any further than Clayton. He always said the right thing to the media and never made excuses for himself. I know we're all disappointed he didn't produce like we had hoped, but he has to be feeling that even more so.

A decent receiver for us, an excellent teammate.

Good luck, Mark.

He was just never in a position to succeed. He never should have been a number one, or a number two even. But we didn't know that when he came out of Oklahoma. We never assumed that his real role should have been in the slot. I feel bad because we realized his true potential way to late. He never had the supporting cast like we did now. He had to play Boller with Pete's sake. Like others have said, Mark is a very classy guy, and I wish him nothing but the best in St. Louis. Hopefully a new home will do you good. I know that I always to bash him on here and with my friends, but you never know what you have until it's gone. I'll miss ya Mark. Thanks.

Ok this is how I look at it. Clayton knew the playbook and now TJ has a week to learn.

I'm definitely bummed to see Clayton go, he gave %100 every game and made some spectacular catches! Maybe now he can get a chance to be the man out in STL. I hope he does well, he deserves it

I think a lot of the "animosity" towards Mark over the years stems from the high expectatons of being a 1st round draft pick. Did he statistically live up to those expectations? Only in 2006 maybe.

All that said, I have always been a fan of Mark's since I became a Ravens fan (not long after he was drafted actually) and I truly appreciate everything he brought to our team and did for our team, on and off the field. Mark, we all wish you the best of luck in St. Louis, they will need your help (in fact, I don't see how he isn't a starter there: Laurent Robinson, Mardy Gilyard, Danny Amendola are not exactly the mot seasoned group of receivers).
