Waiver

8 posts in this topic

Until I got intersted in fantasy football, I never thought abt rosters or how teams managed their players, so ....

I know the clubs can only have 45 plyers dressed at any time and 53 total players and then the rest of the guys get waived but what happens there?
I know "waivers" means a player gets released and any team can contact them, but if they "pass waivers", ie no one wants them, what happens next?

Do they "become" Ravens, that is,are they undressed Ravens?
I mean, in baseball these guys would get cut and go to the minors but football has no minor league.

Replies will be appreciated and this is a serious query, not a spam.

No they're not Ravens. If no team claims them off waivers then they can try out for other teams or get another job.

I think we're talking about two different things here. The OP question is a bit confusing. I think someone is confusing game inactives with waived players.

I'm pretty sure the OP is asking what happens to players after their waived and clear waivers, not inactives.

To answer the OP's question, once a player clears waivers, they remain on the waiver wire for any team or league to approach throughout this year. They are not automatically reassigned to the team that waved them originally. Should no team claim them, they simply do not play this season.

As far as the "minor league", that is a topic that is presently being discussed in the new CBA in which it is being referred to as a "developmental league". Hope that answers your question.

To elaborate on what Maniac said, from what I know there is a period from when a released player with 4 years or less is put on waivers. Teams then have some sort of predetermined order to make claims on these players and the league "awards" those players to the team at the top of the waiver order. If no one claims a player after some time, they officially become a free agent and can sign with any team that may want them.
For example, we just claimed CB McCann off of waivers. That means that we were either the the top team in waiver order to put in for him or no other team did. Had he cleared waivers, the Cowboys would have resigned him to their practice squad as a free agent.
There us obviously a lot I don't know about the process, but hopefully that helps answer your question.
