Oh, blow it out your bum. That movie is visually amazing. Brownies.
Visually amazing but that's about it. Although it was nice to see action sequences where you could actually tell what was going on.

If you like your horror mixed with comedy, I suggest reading John Dies at the End by David Wong. Or you could watch Bad Taste or Dead-Alive (Brainded in Europe) by Peter Jackson
David Wong's cool. I go to cracked pretty much everyday and check their forums once in a while.

The Last Exorcism was good. Definitely creepy (not really scary, but definitely creepy). There is one scene that, in my opinion, crossed a line that I really don't want to see in a movie (it involves violence against animals, that isn't a farm animal). Other than that one scene, it was a good, creepy flick.

I am very much a horror buff. I love those scary stuff. Anybody got some? There's this series of youtube videos that I was watching last year. Pretty good stuff. It's called the Marble Hornets, based on a mythical, I repeat MYTHICAL, creature called by some as the Slender man. The link. That's the intro. You can just click on the videos by order on the right side.

They have a way of creating suspense where some high budget films fail. These guys pretty much picked up a camera and started filming. Absolutely next to none budget. Also, it has that "shaky camera" thing that I've grown to like. Let me see what you guys think. Also, please post up some of your guys stuff. Thanks.

I hate you for turning me on to it. The motion-sensitive light in my back yard keeps lighting up...

Books of Blood were AWESOME.

For zombie novels, I suggest World War Z by Max Brooks and the Monster Island trilogy (Monster Island, Monster Nation, Monster World) by David Wellington

I personally hate the Shaky-cam that Michael Bay (worst director ever) has made so popular. I love John Carpenter's horror films and his generous use of the Steadicam. Halloween, The Thing, In The Mouth of Madness are all great.

If you want to go international, I'd suggest anything by Dario Argento (especially Suspiria or Opera) for Italian and Takashi Miike (Audition, Gozu, and Ichi the Killer) for Japanese.

I recently saw a Japanese movie that was somewhat similar to The Blair Witch Project (only this movie was actually scary) called Noroi. It does a great job of building suspense and is genuinely creepy.
I'm glad you threw Argento out there, I was going to do the same.
I'm more of a classic horror fan, I really hate the modern day stuff for it's overuse of digital special effects, it's bland, if any, story line, and it's lack of originality.
Modern horror is just so watered down and over done.
I feel that way about modern culture in general, whether film, music, etc. There are always a few exceptions, a very few.
As far as the Exorcist is concerned, when I was in elementary school, possibly younger, my oldest brother hooked up speakers to the TV, sat me down in front of it, and made me watch the whole thing. Needless to say I have issues sleeping.
My other brother (the middle child) is a huge horror fan, always was. Growing up, I would try to make a frozen pizza and open the oven only to discover a disfigured head in there. He would be making molds of masks in the oven. He still makes them to this day, and lifesize replicas of horror figures such as Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, etc.
When I was young, we would have haunted houses in the basement, and on Halloween we had the most insanely decorated house on the block, probably the state. My brother would have bloody bodies hanging from a noose out of the windows, Freddy, Jason, Michael Myers, etc. would be on the lawn or in the windows, it was insane. One Halloween we dressed up as scarecrows and sat for awhile in the bushes, we waited for the right moment when a grandmother came with a young child, while looking at us she said, "look at them, they look so realistic it's like their going to move" so of course we jumped up and nearly scared her to death.
He also did special effects, not digital stuff, he's a huge Tom Savini fan. One day he crossed me in the hallway upstairs and said watch this, and proceeded to slice his arm open...I flipped out...It turned out to be fake, another special effect, blood and all, pretty impressive looking back on it.
I'm going to help him direct a short horror film this fall with Eerie Von, from Misfits/Samhain/Danzig fame.
I love Halloween, my girlfriend's parents got married on Halloween and horror holds a special place in my heart, and my family.
Sorry for reminiscing about the old days.

You remind me of one of my good buddies. He's getting married in New Orleans this Halloween and its gonna be a freaky voodoo/death metal/horror themed wedding.

Also, I'm all for the Ravens going as goth/horror as possible. We already have the colors and the history with E.A. Poe.
We have a legacy of brutality with our defense, and with the signing of Boldin and T.J. plus our TE's we have created an even more brutal offense.
An idea has been pitched about us having black towels and blacking out M&T, yeah I know but who cares about the yellow towels, not to mention having black uniforms that we should switch to.
Even the idea of Baltimore is dark enough, having lived here my whole life.
I would love nothing more than to have the Ravens be the darkest most horrific team in the league on both sides of the ball.
Not just because our offense will score on you or because our defense will disable your QB, I want to see us be feared. In the sense that if another teams secondary tries to hit our receivers, they'll have to sit out the next few games, or that their offense needs to be carried off the field.
One by one. :obliviongate:

I know I'm late on this and I wish I had found this topic earlier because I'm all about the horror genre.

@Jabara I think that would be cool. Our only competition for that would be the Raiders, I mean I don't think I'd want to be a visitor sitting in the black hole with those fans. I like the whole blackout idea and who cares if we do the black towels? The Steelers aren't the only ones who do that, other NFL teams do too but usually with white towels though.

There's a horror video game called The Suffering and then the sequel to it is called The Suffering:Ties That Bind. They're a little old but I bring them up because they're based in Baltimore. I played the second one and I thought it was good.

I think, over the last 10 years or so, we've seen a chasm developing between what I've defined as "horror" which is nothing more than your run-of-the-mill gore-fest (Saw, Hills Have Eyes, Halloween (Rob Zombie versions), etc.) ... and terror, which is "real life" situations (Strangers, The Killing Room, etc.) ... I've kind of turned away from "horror" movies because it's always the same old stuff; "terror" is a less explored avenue and every once in awhile you find a really good egg (i.e., The Strangers is one my more favorite movies)...not to mention, "terror" movies seem to "stick with you" a little longer.

Don't get me wrong, still love the classics though. A lot of the new stuff, as far as "horror" goes, I rarely see unless the wife wants to watch it.

Max Brooks also wrote a book called "The Zombie Survival Guide." It's very captivating: I read it 10 times and I glance through it a lot if I'm bored.

Heh, i was expecting that movie to suck... <_< A good horror movie that came out around that time was "The Third Kind." It's supposedly based on real-life events too. Saw it with my friends: it was creepily awesome!

You should watch "The Exorcist" and its remake back-to-back: definitely worth your time. They're both great and they compliment each other nicely.

Call me mainstream, but I love anything that Stephen King puts to print!

Desperation, Cujo, Carrie, The Shining, and a lot of his short stories, while not typical horror novels, can keep you up at night.

The movies corresponding to these books aren't half bad, either. The original ones, at least.

Heh, I have The Zen of Zombie as well. Sadly, my Ex stole my Zombie Survival Guide when we broke up.

Anyways, Salem's Lot is probably one of my favorite books ever. Love old Steven King, aside from Firestarter and Insomnia. I just couldn't get into either, and Insomnia was, ironically, the cure for insomnia in my opinion. Desperation was absolutely fantastic though. Most "recent" King that I enjoyed was "Cell", wish I hadn't lost it.

I read Cell this summer, along with Beastial (Werewolf apocalypse tale in Cincinnati), Headshot Quartet (zombie short stories), Patient Zero & The Dragon Factory (two so far of a trilogy), and Clive Barkers "Books of Blood" (I'm on volume 5 of six now). All good reads*-, I'd recommend them all.

I wish a competent horror director would make an awesome adaptation of "Rawhead Rex"

Clive Barker wrote a fable called "The Thief of Always" that I read in one sitting. It's not terribly scary, but it's still a great book.
