Anything From The Horror Genre

I am very much a horror buff. I love those scary stuff. Anybody got some? There's this series of youtube videos that I was watching last year. Pretty good stuff. It's called the Marble Hornets, based on a mythical, I repeat MYTHICAL, creature called by some as the Slender man. The link. That's the intro. You can just click on the videos by order on the right side.

They have a way of creating suspense where some high budget films fail. These guys pretty much picked up a camera and started filming. Absolutely next to none budget. Also, it has that "shaky camera" thing that I've grown to like. Let me see what you guys think. Also, please post up some of your guys stuff. Thanks.

You want horror? 2 words:

Human Centipede.
The only scary things about it are the ideas and the fact those actors can get work.

I always liked the John Carpenter movie "The Fog"! I love that scene with the old captain telling the kids around the campfire his scary story. As well, there are scenes throughout the movie that would make anyone jump.

I just threw up in my mouth. I REFUSE to see that movie. Just hearing about it from friends was horrifying enough.

What did they tell you that was so bad?

I'm a big zombie fan. Movies or books. I love anything scary, though. I am knee deep in Clive Barkers "Books of Blood" right now. Fantastic stuff. SO well written. Cue Jon.

For those who like reading and like action/thriller/scary themes....this guys stuff is stellar and they both have the same central character. These are the first two of an unfinished trilogy.

Isn't that the number of clips on youtube? What's so bad about them?

I've been planning to see that. I heard about it through the weirdest way. I was watching tosh.0 and they made this two minute summarry that was cut off in some places. I want to watch that.

Really, try watching the Marble Hornets videos. They're really good. Even after a year, I look behind me, trying to see if he's out there, staring at me. Just staring. Still staring as I run away to change my pants.

Ever see any Rams highlights from last year? Now that's terrifying!

Time for a signature makeover, friend. That WR corps is scary compared to what we have now.

I personally hate the Shaky-cam that Michael Bay (worst director ever) has made so popular. I love John Carpenter's horror films and his generous use of the Steadicam. Halloween, The Thing, In The Mouth of Madness are all great.

If you want to go international, I'd suggest anything by Dario Argento (especially Suspiria or Opera) for Italian and Takashi Miike (Audition, Gozu, and Ichi the Killer) for Japanese.

I recently saw a Japanese movie that was somewhat similar to The Blair Witch Project (only this movie was actually scary) called Noroi. It does a great job of building suspense and is genuinely creepy.

Those goshdarn japanese. The Ring was probably the only movie that actually scared me.

Audition was meh. Probably because it's final scene was so hyped up. I had too high of expectations to love it. The story was very good though if you understood what it meant.

Thanks for the stuff man. I got some watching to do later at night.

I actually saw Ringu a year or so before The Ring came out in the US, so I had no idea what to expect. I remember watching it alone on my computer. By the end of the movie, I was on the other side of the room.

Books of Blood were AWESOME.

For zombie novels, I suggest World War Z by Max Brooks and the Monster Island trilogy (Monster Island, Monster Nation, Monster World) by David Wellington

movie not to see Paranormal Activity.
After all the hype I watched it and laughed more then anything. The scene where the chick got dragged down the hall I fell off my couch laughing
the lesses known Paranormal Entity was a little better in my opinion basically same thing just different angle of story

"Night of the Lepus" was one for scaring the daylights out of a fellow.

Also, from the Hammer Horror genre, "Five Million Years to Earth" was quite a fright for some people.

Paranormal Activity was definitely a disappointment.
I'll agree it didn't live up the hype, but I did enjoy it. Not the scariest move ever, but it was creepy. PA2 comes out next month, actually. I'm surprised someone else saw Paranormal Entity. It was okay, but nothing great honestly. The best part was the chick's boobs *cough*

I'll be off to see "The Last Exorcism" in a couple of hours. Hope it's as good as I'm expecting >.>;

I've read both of Maxs' books. Great stuff. I've been tearing through horror books all summer. Bestial is a great modern werewolf tale, Headshot Quartet was a nice zombie short story book.

I got the wife (and myself, lol) a Kindle so hopefully they'll have a good selection of horror for that as well.

For movies, I really liked The Crazies as well.

Let us know what you thought.

We're going to see Avatar at the IMAX in a bit. I've seen it twice in standard size 3D.

If you like your horror mixed with comedy, I suggest reading John Dies at the End by David Wong. Or you could watch Bad Taste or Dead-Alive (Brainded in Europe) by Peter Jackson
