WNST

"#Kentucky TV station reports #Ravens sign former #Louisville QB Hunter #Cantwell to practice squad. They had to have another QB in system..."

RavensInsider

"I've confirmed that the Ravens do have a verbal agreement with former Panthers quarterback Hunter Cantwell for practice squad job."

Been hearing the same. I don't know anything about the guy really, but he's probably cheaper than to carry Smith.
It's just PS, no big deal.

He played at Louisville and was an average QB.

Yeah, the team has always made it a point to carry a practice squad QB just as an extra arm in reserve. Never any intent for the guy to be on the active roster. The team did the same with Drew Willy last year, as well as Drew Olson back in 2006 or 2007. In this case, in carrying only 2 QBs, it was necessary to have a practice squad guy so as to give Bulger's arm a rest occasionally since Bulger will need to be ready to play at a moment's notice in case Flacco gets hurt. Can't have Bulger wearing out his arm, throwing extra passes in scout team action or positional drills for the receivers.

I have to agree with you there Franny! I was expecting them to bring someone in for the PS when I heard of Smith's release.

Ed Reed said that Cantwell could step in and lead us to the Super Bowl. Flacco better watch his back.

Why? It absolutly makes no sense, if you were gonna have a 3rd qb, dont throw away the one we already had. >.>

It actually does make sense. The team had no reason to carry three QBs on the active roster.

like last season where Beck was an inactive almost all yr if not every game

Exactly. This year, instead of wasting a spot on a player that might not play, the team can stash an injured player who can contribute at some point like Stallworth.

If Troy Smith was able to be put on PS, then I think with all my heart and brain that they would've done so, if he would allow it to happen. But to my understanding, he's been in the league too long for that to occur. But Cantwell was a decent Qb at Louisville (nothing like Brohm though, and we all see what Brohm is doing for a living- third stringing it)
