According to Ozzie Newsome, there were no quality defensive backs available in the draft.
The whole talk about drafting a cornerback is mute.

You're comment is only half true. Ozzie had his eye on a few defensive backs in the draft. However, when our first round pick came up, he felt confident that one of them would be there for us in the second round with the pick Denver was offering us. Sadly, however, when it came time for our pick they were gone, and no other defensive back stood out to Ozzie to be worth the pick.

So no, there were quality defensive backs (according to Ozzie), they just weren't available to us when our picks came in.

By all accounts McCann impressed and the cowboys tried to retain him on PS he has good size at 6' and is an upgrade over Miller. I have to see more film but I like the move. It also signals that Wilson will be a big part of the defense and not a return man.

mediocre height at 5'10. Does some like a decent replacement to Miller, but not a significant upgrade.

Well, it sounds like this guy McCann played safety and corner in college and also has return capability. I don't think anyone really thought we were going to go get crazy talented guys off of the waver wire, but we did manage to sign a guy who is very versatile. That's exactly what you need when one position of your roster is depleted, some players that can do a multitude of things just in case someone else goes down.

It's useless information but I just realized the Ravens' past two acquisitions--Josh Wilson and Brian McCann--share the same names with MLB players(Josh's counterpart played in the same city too).

There are conflicting reports on size some sites list him at 6' and others at 5'10 he's probably somewhere in between

Lets just say 5' 11"

Not really, If we had drafted a CB in the first we still could of gotten cody and ATLEAST 1 of the te's if not traded up for the second one. If you draft a corner with your first pick there is a chance you solidifty that position for years to come with a kyle wilson type player. Josh Wilson is behind on the defense and won't play much early on and there is a chance it's a 1 year rental for maybe even a 4th round pick.
[/quote]

No, no, no. This year's draft was not deep in quality corners. Drafting whoever is left at pick 25 is not a smart idea. Not because you neglect to fill in holes, but BECAUSE you have a hole. If you are weak at a position, you need to wait for a player who can adequately fill in that hole for 8-10 years. Not whoever can fill the position best at the time. If you draft a franchise QB, you don't just take whoever is left, you wait until a year where you find the right one. There was no right one for us, so we didn't draft a corner.

He looks pretty quick on returns. I like this pickup because now guys like Josh Wilson and Chrid Carr don't have to return punts and can focus on playing corner.

There are a decent amount of people out there who believe kyle wilson was actually the best CB in the draft. You are not settling for kyle wilson at 25.

I've heard somewhere but I'm not sure if there is any truth to it but cary williams doesn't actually count as a roster spot considering he's suspended.. If thats truth you'll likely see mccann cut when he returns.

Only time will reveal the validity of that statement.

...and yes, Williams does not currently count against the 53 man roster.
