Jason LaCanfora is reporting that Ed Reed saw two specialists and got good news. He is expected to come back some time in September.

This is great news! Our secondary is looking to be patched up.

Alright! If Reed can be back for the Opening Night game against the Jets and with the addition of Josh Wilson... oh boy our secondary is going to just destroy Sanchez. This is great news!

I think we will be fine without Reed in Week 1. I'm confident with Zibby in there. Week 2 on the other hand is where his talent could be of use. But if he's not feeling 100% I'd rather have him rested up for when he is.

Looks like he'll just be inactive until he's ready.

Good news to hear that Reed will (likely) be back soon. You never know, though, especially with an injury such like this.

I'm packing the Black Ed Reed jersey then for the trip to NJ.

How long before the game do they text us the inactives??? I cant recall. An hour, maybe?

I'm just curious what kind of shape he's in,. what kind of working out he's been able to do. Not that I'm doubting him, but I want him to be effective (which he always has been).

Back when I was in the states, I always got the text the morning of, usually around 1000. So, yeah, i'd bank on 1-2 hours before hand.

I'm with everyone else. We don't need him as much in the first game as we do the second. I'm not afraid of dirty sanchez. And plus Zibby is better in the run game then Ed and I expect them to try to run it more cuz I doubt they will try to rely on a sub par qb to beat us through the air.

Yup, looking back at my text message history, they seem to arrive about 1 hr before the game. Just wear a few layers of Ravens Jerseys! Peel them off as need be

Make sure you're smart about the order you put them on. Last year, on game day, when I put on all 53 of my jerseys because I wasn't sure who was playing, I always ensured to put on my #41 jersey first, just as a VERY last resort. :D

I've got enough confidence in Zibby to want to give Ed enough time to get back to 100% health and fitness. The only problem is that I don't think Ed will allow himself that time.

I don't see the point in rushing back for Week 1. The Jets don't have a good enough passing game. Zibikowski or Nakamura would be just fine playing against Sanchez.

I'd much rather make sure Reed is healthy for the Week 2 match-up against the Bengals. He always seems to be able to pick Carson Palmer off in key moments. But even more importantly is the 2nd half of the season, when the Ravens play the Saints who love to pass... the Steelers with Roethlisberger back, as well as the Bengals to close out the season.

And hopefully, playoffs.

We don't need Reed against the Jets. And I would hate to see him have to tackle Shonn Greene IF he broke through to the secondary at all. That's just a risk not worth taking.

I guess you forgot the offseason addition the Jets had. Do you remember a guy by the name of Santonio Holmes? Yeah. He's a jet. Braylon Edwards? Yep, still there. And as I recall... Mark Sanchez was no pushover, either. Granted he's not near elite status or anything like that... but he can definately hold his own. The passing game of the Jet's is pretty solid, and anything short of a decent secondary could spell disaster for our defense.

But I think we'll be alright. As long as out Offense does it's thing and our defense can pressure Sanchez all game, and we can stop they're running attack, we'll be A-OK!

Nothing I'd like better than seeing #20 back on the field staring at Sanchez. I can hear him now "don't throw it, I'm telling ya' don't throw it"

But seriously, will be great to have him back. I just hope he's healthy when he gets on that field and he waits until he is ready for it. No sense taking chances.

Holms is Suspended. THe only person in their passing game I worry about is keller. But THen again it's Mark Sanchez throwing him the ball so whatever

Because he was suspended for a few games. Thats why the steelers gave him up for cheap.

If Ed, the trainers, doctors, etc. agree that he'll be able to return within 2-3 weeks, then I hope he does avoid the PUP list. This team just isn't the same without #20. However, if he won't be truly ready for a month or longer, then we can't let that roster spot go to waste, can we?

I've heard that he's likely going to avoid PUP. Not totally sure about how I feel about the decision, but without having intimate knowledge of how he's recovering it's tough to make an informed judgement.

Whats important is the FO has all that intimate knowledge you are referring to. They will make the right decision with Reed. I really dont see the rush, we can manage until he returns. When he does it will be great. I just dont want him to come back too soon and risk further injury. That is the key.
