Josh Wilson Returning Kickoffs?

28 posts in this topic

So I was watching one of the videos that was provided in an article and I had no idea that Wilson was this explosive on Kickoffs. It was this video to be exact:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzHbLyjFnuU&feature=player_embedded

This got me wondering. As impressive as Parmele is at getting up the field, Wilson provides more of a home run element. But with the injury riddle secondary, and a glimpse at how we can lose starter via Special Teams (Webb), should we err on the side of caution and just let our other talented KRs handle the job? Just wanted to get some opinions.

YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME! HELLO!

I think he will be back on KR when Webb gets back or when Williams gets back from suspension. There is always an injury risk. There is talk of only keeping 2 QB's. Should we hide Bulger just in case someone runs into the sidelines and hits him while he is holding the clipboard? There is always risk of injury. But I agree that he will probably not get any touches before our secondary's health improves.

The only other player on the ravens roster right now that has shown dynamic kick returning ability is Webb who I think will not be in a position to return kicks so Wilson seems like the obvious choice. Punts are a different story. I see prince Miller making the roster and taking punt returns.

This something I'm legitimately interested in. Parmele is steady at kick-returner and hasn't done anything to really lose the job but Wilson has proven he can rip off big returns consistently during his career. We'll just have to wait and see.

I guess it depends on how many reutners they put back there. I've seen them go single and double in the past. Nothing says they couldn't put both Wilson and Parmele back there.

There should be one thread that says "Josh Wilson Acquired from Hawks for Conditional 5th Round Pick" discuss.

By the end of the day today, we'll have 50 threads talking about each individual aspect of his game and our current DB situation.

Let's get it together people. Think if your post can fit in elsewhere first!

damn, nice vid..

however I gotta say I did not see 1 kick returned for a TD there on ST...

so I gotta say, don't risk it... we need a bright spot in the secondary.. if he gets injured on ST.......

Hell I still believe the Webb injury could have been avoided

Injuries are a part of the game. At the time, the team had 5 CBs on the roster and even though he was playing very well, Webb still had rookie special teams duties to fulfill. He could have torn his ACL returning a kick or on D. What would people have said then?

I have no idea. It's unfortunate the he tore his ACL on punt coverage but it could have happened at any other time.

Parmele's looked good but I've never seen him bust tackle after tackle, like WIlson did numerous time in that reel. It could be that Parmele picked up so much yardage because we have excellent blockers on kick returns, or maybe Parmele's very good at finding the crease that the blockers have created for him. But I think we should have a look at Wilson's capabilities returning kicks because clearly he has something. Maybe behind our blockers 1 of those broken tackles and that speed will lead to a TD, instead of just a big gain like in Seattle.

LOL @ 75% of the Cards ST'ers in that one clip, my god the guy looks to be pretty tough... welcome aboard...

I dont think Id use him on KR/PR... maybe in clutch situations when we want really need a good chunk or yards off the kick beucase he looks to be reliable and damn near does just about anything to get up that field... thats just off that video though, cant say Ive had the guy under a microscope.

I'd rather take 31 yards a return with a 3rd string RB than average 25 yards with a midget starting DB

Watch the first kick off against the Giants....I was there in Row 17 on the 2o yard line> Parmele broke five tackles on the return and went 37 yards. The guy is a machine for a 3rd RB they are paying $400k

Admittedly I've only seen chunks of the preseason. I'll have a look for it.

I say let Parmele do PR/KR but If we really need a spark or a big play then I would put Wilson in.
[/quote]
I don't think Parnele us really a PR guy. I'm thinking Miller if he makes the roster, Clayton if he doesn't, and Zibby once Reed gets back.

With Stallworth out right now clayton is to important to have him playing ST. Parmele, Miller an Wislon are probally the best we have at returing kicks. I would like to see Miller/Wilson on punts and Parmele and either of those two on kickoffs.
