Around cuts, a lot of teams like to hide their young talent on IR, so they don't have to cut them. This way, they can keep the player, and not risk the player being signed off the practice squad.

Arthur Jones is a talented guy, in a position with a ton of depth, so we may "IR" him, to retain him for next season, where he may improve.

I see the team keeping Jones over Talavou. Not only is Jones a rookie but he was supposedly a 1st round prospect before injuring his knee late his senior year.
