It was a dirty play, if it were Flacco, I would be outraged. Suh went for the facemask/head and didn't let go, twisting and throwing Delhomme even though he had obviously released the ball. Suh also did it out in the open, visible to the fans, other players, and officials. Welcome to the NFL, rookie, your first memorable play is a bad one.

Suh is too talented to play like that..

yes, and I agree about your Flacco statement.... I like what my friend said about it.... Could have very well witnessed the first death in the NFL on that play

The play was pretty ugly and completely uncalled for.

However, I can't stand how protected QBs are these days. I remember Edgar Jones hitting a Panthers QB in the first pre-season game and getting flagged for it. To me, it just looked like a solid hit.

its a dirty play but hopefully he'll learn from it and thats the last we'll see of it.

once he's learned his trade he will be pretty tough to handle for O-lines across the league

He later commented on the incident saying that he thought Jake (Delhomme) still had the ball on his hands. Even if that was the case though, he grasped the facemask like he wanted to murder the QB..

Rookie Mistake... but hey at least he has some passion and the talent to do that to guys like Favre, Rodgers and Cutler. The Lions need that kind of passion and dirty play or not that's what the Lions need right now.

I'm just amazed Delhomme isn't out for the year thanks to that play.

I think it wasn't as bad as it looked. He got the facemask to begin with but he let it go pretty quickly and then tried to wrap him up (admittedly around the neck) and threw him down. But I guess I like it a little rougher than most.

that was pretty awful. That was completely uncalled for and unjustified.
He is luck to have walked off the field.

Having seen the footage of the incident in question, I have to agree with you, K-Dog, what Suh did was uncalled for. I also have to agree with what another poster remarked earlier in this thread, had things gone the other way, we could have seen a death on the field.

If Suh had been blocked this wouldn't be an issue. Anyway...

It may be dirty, but the Lions need more guys with that sort of passion.

First he grabs the facemask, then he grabs Jake's throat and throws him to the turf like a rag doll. I'm sorry, but you gotta know better than that just from watching. The only excuse I could possibly give Suh there was that maybe he was trying to send a message to Detroit, but that's not the way to do it. Plus, even if Jake did still have the ball, you gotta know that you're gonna get flagged and fined for that.

That's what she said.

Seriously though, Suh could have easily broken Delhomme's neck. I'd be shocked if he didn't get fined for it soon.

Agreed. It looks bad but he has to have the benefit of the doubt considering his words match what happened. Accidental face masks happen all the time especially with the persons back is turned to you, that and Suh wasn't in a position to see the ball come out.

Are we watching the same video?
Aside from the face mask HE PICKED HIM UP BY HIS HEAD AND THREW HIM DOWN !!!!
Thats NOT passion, that is not rough play, that is not getting caught up in the moment, it is 100% reckless, careless, insanity.

I agree. If it were Joe Flacco, these guys would be calling for Suh's head.

it was a brutal looking play and when I saw it even I cringes(might use a move like that in my next MMA fight),anyways was it adrenline?Who know I just hope it was just rookie passion and we won't see that again.
Who knows maybe Jake will throw it straight now.

Yeah, it's football. But, not only did Suh grab his facemask, but he then grabs his helmet/head and violently throws him to the turf. The force behind Suh's throw could have easily broken Jake's neck. I'm not sure how you see it differently.

He tried to murder him. Even if he did have the ball, you KNOW grabbing the facemask is illegal. He purposely tried to take his head off.

idk about easily.... it's possible, but I'm pretty sure it takes alot of pressure to break someone's neck

well.. we've all heard this side of it... so I think I'm gonna state the other side

This is a savage game played by men.. The players knew the risk when they joined the NFL... Hell, I've heard it stated from High School players... that this game (especially on defense) isn't for you, if you don't have the killer instinct.. yeah it could have been avoided... and nobody was injured... yet this play is horrible

yet we'll have people hit w/ their helmets and actually cause injury.. and the tacklers will get patted on the back by the fans for being able to lay the wood..

I kind of liked the hit.... it showed me there is still hope for defense in the NFL w/ all these rule changes

imagine what it's doing for detroit fans

Im sorry but this hit is different. I wouldnt have a problem with it if he would have just fell over on Delhomme, but Suh torqued Delhomme's body to the right by twisting his head. (Which was already pulled to the right almost 90 degrees because of the face mask.) It was an extremely reckless and dangerous play.

The play was pretty nasty and uncalled for; I don't buy his answer of "I thought the QB still had the ball." Even if he did still have the ball you still can't grab him like that and sling him down like a toy puppet. I disagree with some people that say he should be suspended.. bottom line is it IS football and bad stuff can happen. He should get a hefty fine and then be done with it.

The one thing I am a bit disappointed over though is how nobody on the team seemed to step up to "protect" Jake. I know that sometimes we get on players for being stupid but sometimes you have to step up and show the opposing team that you can't do crap like that.

^This is the dumbest thing I've ever read here.

Anyway, if this had happened to Flacco I would have been concerned for his safety but not marching down the street in a lynch mob. Facemasks are frequent and accidental, anyone who has actually played defense past high school level will tell you that.
