Sales doesn't necessarily equate to ability. If that was the case, then 50 Cent would be one of the greatest rappers alive -- but his lyricism says otherwise. Sales would also indicate that Gucci Mane and Soulja Boy are good rappers, but their music argues against that case.

I'll put it like this: there's a difference between being a good artist and a good MC; Lil Wayne is a good artist because he obviously entertains people in what he brings to the table, but he's not necessarily a good MC because his lyricism is barely above-average compared to other rappers out there. So for him to call himself the best rapper alive, that's a misnomer given that there's plenty of other rappers who would outshine him if comparing lyrics-to-lyrics.

I couldn't agree more.

A perfect example of an MC is Canibus. The man could rap circles around Wayne but has struggled to sell 500,000 copies his entire career.

Liked 50when he first came out but his albums have been horrid since then, not a huge rap fan so other then the previous statement I can't comment about Wayne(haven't really liked anything I have heard from him tho,but most non radio songs are usually the best),more of a fan of old school rap

Lil Wayne's a great lyricist, but he's not really inspirational as a person. All he raps about is money and sex, he doesn't do that much for the community and I won't even mention all of his criminal misdeeds... Jay-Z on the other hand does a lot. For example, he co-produced "Fela!" a lauded and moving play about the Nigerian composer.

[Interviewer:]
So "Little Wayne," whats your motivation?

[Lil' Wayne:]
Is that really a question
Do you really have that written down in your notepad
You should be ashamed of yourself
You smell me girl
I smell like money
See, thats what they don't understand
To me it was always get money or die
I come up under Birdman the Number One Stunner
You know what I mean I'm stunner junior thats all I know thats all I ever knew
Get money or get nothing you know what I'm saying
And I feel that way
Foreal

Heheh, this proves my point!

Because, apparently, being hip-hop's Ralph Wiggum qualifies an artist for legendary status. <_<

The day Lil Wayne stops rapping will be the day I can finally say that I can listen to mixtapes again without hearing another artist copy his formulaic rhyme scheme or imitate him in any other manner that altogether does nothing to improve a song. From his ad-libs to his laugh, Weezy has to be the most overrated artist on the mainstream scene today. That crown would normally go to 50 Cent or Jay-Z, except 50 hasn't been relevant in a year and Jay-Z at least has flashes of his heyday.
What ever happened to 50 Cent anyway? I haven't heard anything about him since the Kanye vs. 50 beef. I saw him in a cologne ad though. As for Jay-Z, he's still got it: his album's hot! I love "Forever Young" that song really struck a chord with me. The video for it was really touching too :34853_angel:

Yea, I like Drake, but not his "love" songs, which is half his new album. Over, Miss Me, Thank Me Now, Fireworks, Unforgettable, Up All Night, and Fancy were the only ones I really liked.
I love Drake, but his love songs are pretty lame...

Agreed. He did pretty good on Forever with Kanye, Lil Wayne and Eminem IMO.

PS: Eminem was definitely the best out of the four in that song. He spits those rhymes out like a machine gun.
You're right: Eminem's the illest!! He's been in the game before Drake was even on Degrassi!

I'm not hater. I'm just a guy who isn't a fan and likes to express why.

Cudi is pretty good.
